>Meteor is a threat in Final Fantasy VII >It doesn't hit until Final Fantasy XIV
Wait, what the frick happened in all the games between that? Is this just the world's slowest meteor?
My headcanon is that every Final Fantasy game takes place in the same universe, just very very very very far apart. Like 4 can take place millions of years before 7 and I'd believe it.
There isn't. But that's why the FFX and FFVII connection is so silly. "Yeah, it's the same universe but on totally different planets thousands of years apart." If you're going to do that with those two games then you may as well do the same for the whole franchise.
You're pretty much correct except it's not time, but distance. But there are a few FFs that are connected timeline-wise. Like 7 with 10, T with 12, & 2 with 4.
You idiot, they say it in the game AND the cast in Remake literally saw visions of a meteor drop even if they lack context for it, so it's pretty fricking easy to put two and two together.
FF7R is a sequel, the events of FF7 OG are still canon and have happened
Aerith is aware of this and knows it will happen
Fricking brainlet this has been known since part 1
Always been that way. Because black is the antitheses of light. Light is feminine, light is white, light is submissive, light is everything black isn't. That's why people love black.
Interesting she references Cloud directly afterwards. In english it could seem she is talking abot the party when she says 'you'.
Maybe these two gained future knowledge? They seem pretty confident about each of their jobs
Its fricking Jenova. It would be stupid if it was not Jenova at this point. Its it's entire thing. Mimicking loved ones, even dead ones.
Also Cloud has the black materia which makes his nonexistent reaction to Aerith's (who does not even acknowledges that she is dead) statement of stopping meteor even weirder.

It depends on which team is making the cgi, sometimes it is really good, other times it isnt. But in general SE reached the point where their models are so fricking good they just need decent lighting.
The prevailing theory is that we are watching Cloud going full schizo and trying to memory hole Aerith's death out of sheer denial (similar to how he forced himself to forget about Zack's death), and that's why we only see snippets of his "this can't be real!" speech and why the game doesn't show him burying Aerith in the water (even though we clearly see the party standing next to the water after they just buried her).
>The prevailing theory is that we are watching Cloud going full schizo

kek
It's what happened you sub 10IQ monkeys. Cloud invents a scenario were he saves her, it's wildly inconsistent even in gameplay. After Aerith dies and the party walks in the boss fight starts with every member EXCEPT CLOUD having a max limit break because they're all angry. Cloud memory holes Aerith dying which is in-character both in this remake and the original. She's dead, get the frick over it. Next you're going to be confused as to why Sephiroth boss fights are all ugly Jenova, it's because he's dead and uses all Jenova injected bodies as his puppets.
>(even though we clearly see the party standing next to the water after they just buried her).
This is an obvious assumption to make but remember that it's still an assumption. All we really see is Tifa being sad and everyone else being kinda exhausted. We can't even be 100% certain they're ignorant to Aerith's presence. The entire ending is deliberately strange and skips some critical context.
That can't be a coincidence. We're making assumptions of what happened based entirely on our knowledge of OG FFVII. We really have no idea what happened from an objective viewpoint at the end of Rebirth. My guess is what everyone thinks they saw versus what really took place will be wildly different.
You do see the water burial after the battle but: It's fast-forwarded + blurred and it's Cloud point of view. The game is telling you the player that Cloud's POV is different than the rest of the party who saw Aerith die then buried her. Cloud believes he saved Aerith, the burial still happens but it's not fully shown to us because Cloud's mind is fully broken and lives in a fantasy world where she's staying behind to summon Holy.
Meteor hadn't been summoned yet in the original game either when she went to call Holy, but they already knew that's what he was planning to do and theoretically had the means to do so thanks to what they found at the Temple of the Ancients. I'll never play Rebirth, but that's not necessarily a plot hole if the same information is provided there.
Didn't play Remake. Didn't play Rebirth. Haven't bought anything related the Compilation since renting Advent Children. Replayed OG FFVII two weeks ago. Cope.
how does this prove me wrong? The re-trilogy is going to get a massive all-in-one remaster after part three and this moron will pass on the longest video game ever created.
Also one of the worst written games ever unless you're a compilation autist. NO ONE is going to be talking about this story in 20 years. It's born out of the worst creative place, trying to be new for the sake of new, instead of trying to be cohesive and self-contained. Remake ending was shit, people coped about how Rebirth will explain shit. Now Rebirth also ended like shit, and the can has been kicked down the road once more. There is zero chance anything they do in part 3 will somehow retroactively make Acts 1 and 2 not feel like bile on your tongue after a mostly good game
It'll get cleared up once a time ghost fills aerith's vacancy
It'll be a PS6 exclusive though, so save up now, and even though it may still look like a PS4 game, you'll have even more bloat quests, mini games, and twists!
Please tell me the game stops having so many fricking flying enemies after Junon, I'm going to fricking drop this game if I need to fight one more fricking flying c**t enemy
Why did Cait Sith tell everyone to go to Gongoga?
Did he know Scarlet had plans at the reactor and secretly wanted to throw a wrench in the works?
Did he genuinely think Gongaga held the clues they needed to find Sephiroth?
Was he just throwing a destination out at random because he wanted to play along?
Was he really just following his moogle's fortune?
>So Cloud is going to summon the promised land with his hollow materia?
It's unclear if he will create it or if's already there. I think at the moment it is mostly foreshwdowing for what we'll see in part 3.
>So Cloud is going to summon the promised land with his hollow materia?
It's unclear if he will create it or if's already there. I think at the moment it is mostly foreshwdowing for what we'll see in part 3.
Isnt this just the end of Fate/Stay with Shirou fricking off to avalon to reunite with saber
That's not the plothole. The plothole is that Cloud has the black materia so Sephiroth can't even summon meteor. He failed to mention that to her while leaving her behind to pray for nothing
I doubt it's that simple. We know there is a version of sephiroth with the black materia. We don't know what the sephiroth who keeps hopping dimensions is doing, and we already saw him summon meteor a couple times, even wiping out one of the zack worlds with it.
No if he has it then he would just summon meteor anytime. My suspicion is that he never had the black materia because his real body is still at the northern crater, Cloud had it all the time.
That's probably the case, my biggest doubt it what was truly happening at the time when Sephiroth made him go after aerith. Only aerith could see sephiroth? how things looked from the POV of the party?
This is the trick the devs are clearly playing. Because Cloud is fricked up even in the best circumstances and by the end of Rebirth his brain is totally fried we can't trust anything we saw from his POV.
If there is a Sephiroth clone then he can manifest himself for everyone to see. And there are many clones there. So he killed Aerith with a clone as well.
I'm willing to bet that the ending cinematic was really several universes stitched together to look like one contiguous sequence. Like Cloud pointing out the fricked up sky and Barret looking up to see nothing.
>He failed to mention that to her while leaving her behind to pray for nothing
I doubt Cloud will be even aware he has the black materia, he attached that shit to his buster sword like it was nothing.
pretending to care about the narrative changes is how they've been shilling these games since remake
They damage control with the fact that they aren't "significant" but keep threads running 24/7 for "discussion" of completely moronic context clues, it's a safety net to keep morons who actually get invested through such nonsense buying the games
It's like you all didn't play the game, seriously.
Cloud has Black Materia, Aerith tells him to after Sephiroth(direct contradiction to what she said in forbidden forest(still dead btw)), Cloud feeds Sephiroths crystallized body the Black Materia against his will, falls into lifestream, weapons wake up, Tifa and Barret wake up in Junon in time for execution- travel world, find Cloud, find real Cloud, etc. Zack and Aerith remain in lifestream happily ever after, mirroring Advent Childrens infinite whiteness parts
Another plothole they're fixing is how Cloud didn't grieve Aerith in the OG but he's depressed af in AC. So they're making him oblivious to the fact until the very end.
The real aerith would never encourage cloud like he did at the end
There's such a fricking disconnection. The real farewell was at the church and MAYBE during the final battle between them vs sephiroth
From what I can tell, here's what's going on with the black materia.
>There is a timeline where Cloud actually rescues Aerith from falling at the Temple of the Ancients >this is shown when Cloud is starting to wake up in the Forest of the Ancients. A white whisper passes between a scene where Cloud is bringing her up to safety before another one where they're on the ground >this is probably showing us a timeline where Cloud can resist Sephiroth, which is the one where Aerith lives >Cloud and Aerith go to the Temple of the Ancients, Cloud never gives Sephiroth the black materia and never falls with Aerith, Cloud can go to the City of the Ancients with Aerith and so is in time to save her >Cloud still has the black materia, Aerith is still alive, Aerith might still have the white materia
Nomura told us the static scenes are Cloud rejecting reality. So when he realises he has the black materia, he rejects the reality where he was supposed to never have it.
There are 2 Aeriths in the ending. >when the party is by the water after burying aerith
Jenova >when the party is readying the tiny bronco
Lifestream. Red could sense her, her dress doesn't react to the Tiny Bronco >the one who said don't look up
Probably Lifestream Aerith, her voice is projected into Cloud's head >the one who talked to cloud after everyone had boarded
Jenova. Her dress now can react to the Tiny Bronco and she can speak now. >the one who said goodbye after the plane has flown away
Lifestream. Again the voice sounds projected.
Think of it this way: if there's gonna be a resurrection in part 3 wouldn't it be better if Cloud actually mourns her death and then she comes back? As it is now when she comes back he will be like "hey how did you get here from the temple?"
>wouldn't it be better if Cloud actually mourns her death and then she comes back?
That's always been the idea. Clouds gonna get mindbroken at the northern Crater when he realizes Aerith died in his world and come to terms with that later in the lifestream scene. However, he's gonna remember that multiple worlds are a thing and realize that he DID save Aerith in one of them, which will be enough consolation for him to not be in AC depression mode for the rest of the game. From that point on it'll depend if Cloud is going to actively look for a way to unite with this "Aerith lives" world, or if Zack's timeline hopping shenanigans will get that to happen on it own.
I think he'll chase the aerith(s) that lived but at some point will realize (or lifestream aerith will make him realize) that these timelines need to be erased/corrected for sephiroth to lose or something like that, making it more emotional than the og. They know they can't frick up with the og's timeline by the end of this trilogy so things will return to normal BUT they will give characters a chance to say goodbye to each other

yup although tbh I'm still surprised they even had the balls to show a world where Aerith died in this one, I thought for sure they were gunna find some way to skirt around it---then in the final game they'd have to 'correct the timeline' or 'restore fate' or someshit like that which would require her sacrificing herself
People keep calling me a moron but the composition of this scene really looks like Rebirth's alternate dimensions what with the rainbow shit. I kind of think that's intentional because they're going to retcon Aerith and Zack from being in the lifestream into being trapped in multiverse jail. Which allows them to technically "survive" but functionally be sent away all the same.
if they end up at the OG ending after 3 games of zack cliffhangers and time ghosts ruining iconic scenes they should've just made a straight remake instead of wasting everyone's time with a pseudo sequel
I feel the same way. If you're going to take us on a ride like this only to end up at the same destination you've just sold us the most contrived shaggy dog story ever.
"Link up" can mean almost anything in the context of this trilogy. We're in Marvel multiverse territory and have Chadley VR missions up the ass. They can do a lot of things with Advent Children that technically meets the definition of "link up."

I personally don't believe anything these people say because of the aforementioned BS leaks as well as them having a vested interest in misdirecting considering the next game is still a couple years away. Especially considering the game is looking more and more disjointed from the OG to possibly wrap around to ending up in the same place. They'd be better served sticking to their guns like when remake game out. Instead they are pussyfooting around cause they don't like angry gaijin journalists throwing tantrums

It's also just fricking mean spirited, right? The whole "no promises" thing is neat because it one hell of a way to maintain the tension but they pushed that mantra so hard in Rebirth that it would almost come off as bullying if they REALLY held firm, right? It'd be like Biff with the kids in Back to the Future II. "Oh you want your ball back? You want your ball? GO GET IT!"

This. Imagine what fools the square devs would look like to go so hard on the message of wanting to defy fate and forge your own path to a brighter future, only to end up in the same exact place in Advent Children. That wouldn't be cathartic for anyone or give any sense of finality and closure to the story of these characters, which is what the devs seemingly want to do since they are all around retirement age and this is their curtain call game trilogy before their way out. They're just saying whatever to keep everyone invested and ready to spend money.

That shit works a lot, i got a considerable amount of things in rebirth right with that.
An example: The tga trailer revealed romantic scenes between cloud and aerith at gold saucer, the gold saucer date happens at 90% of the game, which means they wouldnt end the love triangle even if zack was back. And i was right.
If you use pure logic and game design structure you can guess a lot of things.

A lot of theories are more about inserting what you want to see than truly looking the full picture. I think everything related to Loveless is the best example of it. Everyone keeps analysing everything related to it, but conveniently ignore the last parts of it because the game straight up talks about a reunion happening at the end, and parts of the fandom dont like the idea, so they dont even mention it.

This is true.
I see motherfrickers doing extreme analysis of every fricking line and scene of that play, trying to discover if it's about jenova or anything else, but then nothing abotu what the final talk could imply to the end of the story. They added a little miniature "date" in Remake in Aerith's garden, right? So it's very likely they'll do the same in the third game. I'm betting they revise the Highwind scene to function as the third game's date where you can meet any character, not just Tifa. And that will be the finale of the romance subplot. But that also means because it will be entirely player determined there won't be an official canon. The actual game ending likely won't comment on who Cloud ends up with, if anyone. More likely each of the girls will be given lines that could be interpreted as either openly romantic or platonically VERY close, with the interpretation being dependent on who you got in the date earlier. Shit like "we'll always be bonded" or "We're connected forever."

Yes. Anyone who thinks otherwise is too far up their own ass to think they won't.

Why would they do this when no other FF has allowed that level of player driven choice with its romance? Like
nta, and I'd like to be wrong, but Square is still too old-school in terms of JRPGs where outside of small side stuff, they don't like diverging too far from a single canon route for the story and characters.
I wish Square would be a bit more bold with FF and allow choice, but you're 95% likely to be correct that it will just resolve the one way.
said, this isn't a western RPG with a clear player driven narrative. Outside of the player choice moments in remake and rebirth, the game gives a decent amount of romantic elements to each girl with the narrative favoring Aerith at each end. I see no reason why they would change this trend.

All the pre-crazy Sephiroth shit is weird because he's very much designed to look evil.

He smiles plenty when remembering his friends and during their Junon play fight. In the flashback he’s basically grinning happily the whole time until Angeal breaks them up and Genesis gets wounded.
I smirked when he said "you mean like work trips, which is no fun at all" in Rebirth. So out of character.
Keep in mind that this is the same dude who was secretly sneaking into the VR training room with his pals to play children’s games like apple-shot. There was a time when Sephiroth liked fun and joked around.

I peg Sephiroth as a fictionalized version of a mass shooter. Basically someone who was technically a victim but he was also a narcissistic sociopath who was predisposed to being pushed over the edge. Perhaps he could have been put on a better path with a different upbringing but his actions are still entirely on him.

I always found his corruption in connection to Jenova far more compelling than masamune-wielding anime villain Sephiroth.
They did the human Sephiroth fight in two games in a row already, I hope they don't do it in the third. Go full out weird. They already did bizaaro Seph, and they'll obviously do the final form from OG, but I hope we get more weird than that. Get more "Jenova/weird-eldritch space horror monster" stuff. I thought the Jenova Emergent-ship stuff in Rebirth was great.

I'm really not liking this "I want ALL THE RAGE!" angle they're going with. It makes him come off like a Care Bears villain. It's not super clear what kind of interplay people's emotions have with the multiverse gimmick but I suppose the state of the parallel universes depend on the mindset of the people occupying or creating them? And I guess Sephiroth wants as many bad universes to exist as possible for the reunion?

Not gonna lie, with all the homoerotic subtext abound, I think they really should reveal that Cloud is a closet bisexual with a mancrush on Sephiroth and that's one of the reasons he was both cripplingly insecure as a kid and also why Sephiroth's betrayal mindbroke him so completely.

The thing is that cosplay stopped being just a hobby for otakus and weirdos from the 2000s and it is something really professional nowadays where you have a lot of girls with thousands and thousands of followers doing it. So a lot of it is based on horny content. Tifa is mandatory if you're one of these girls.

I realize this is conjecture on my part but considering how deep Sephiroth is in Cloud's head, it wouldn't be completely crazy for the game to rationalize that Sephiroth knows Cloud had a crush on him and is exploiting that as a taunt. One thing about Sephiroth is that he keeps poking at Cloud's insecurities. "You're a puppet" and shit. It's exactly the kind of thing a narcissist would do.

Aerith is 100% gone from the game after she dies and it looks like she's going to be sidelined for a good portion of the next game. They clearly wanted to get as much out of Aerith as possible in Rebirth. I've said it before: Rebirth is really Aerith's game, not Cloud's. So that's why so much of it is about her and Cloud's relationship. The narrative of Rebirth, being so Aerith focused, didn't allow for Tifa to have much to do. Especially since even in OG FFVII Tifa didn't do a whole lot in the back half of disc 1. But Disc 2? That's ALL Tifa. So I'm sure she's going to get a shit ton of focus next game.

One thing to remember is though Cloud remembered Zack prematurely in Rebirth the writers can still leverage that to explain why he'd flip flop his affections so wildly. You're right that it would be weird for Tidus to do that but for Cloud it makes perfect sense because of his unique peculiarities.

Either way you'll buy the game. And the game after that; Advent Children: Prologue
It's called fan fiction. The best you could get is a happy ending with characters alive in another universe, but always reassuring the fact that the og timeline stayed the same because some rabid fan would otherwise burn their whole HQ down
Didn't Nomura say he just wanted this marathon of projects to end? Although he also was the one that just wanted a 1:1 remake so he'll probably get bullied into Nojima's bullshit again
>3 games teasing defying fate >Lol sike you actually can't change fate no matter how hard you try
How the frick would that be a happy ending in any way? What makes you think they can't change the og timeline this time around? Legacy? Nostalgia? They've been slowly retconning and changing shit right under your nose these last 20 years starting with Advent Children. All this context is just building a non bullshit way to bring Aerith (and Zack) back to life. Otherwise this remake is pointless
>They know they can't frick up with the og's timeline
That's where i think the empty white materia is going to come into play. The white materia's function is essentially to channel a prayer and directly make a wish to the planet (e.g. Aerith prays not only for it to stop meteor, but also for it to not to wipe out all of humanity in the process). We know for a fact that Aerith managed to get her prayer off before she died, so the planet is already set to stop meteor once Cloud and Co. give Sephiroth the boot.
However, after Cloud gets his mind fixed, i think the empty white materia is gonna start filling up with new memories until it is functional again. Assuming Aerith returns, she could be able to use this new white materia to channel ANOTHER prayer and wish to reforge the "Main" timeline in a way where she can live or at least keep the alternate worlds/timelines from having to fade away.
I got the impression that lifestream Aerith was saying goodbye during the dream date because she was going to be erased once the new timeline reached the point that she died in OG FFVII. So she either went kaput or merged with her current counterpart, which might explain current Aerith's odd behavior in the ending.
Tifa is just built to be abused
You can imagine her staring blankly after you done using her as a cumdump for a few hundred gil while she tries not to think about the good times when cloud was still there with her and barret didnt leave along with marlene
She probably deep down knows that this is the future she deserves when she sobs herself to sleep on the floor of some cheap motel that she barely can afford to stay at but she also just cant help but imagine a future where aerith died and cloud was forced to care for her
She probably hates herself for these thoughts but yet she keeps thinking them when she is truly alone
this isn't a plot hole moron. black materia summons meteor, they already know they are stopping a meteor from the 2 sephiroth fights plus the info in the temple of the anceints
Writers left themselves a lot of wiggle room with the ending. Either Cloud is crazy and coping or Cloud is crazy, but there's more to Aerith's presence and his odd reactions than crazy/ cope.
I really hope the party has a big blow up argument over it. After nearly killing Tifa in a fit of madness and everything during the Temple of the Ancients I'm hoping that the writers are going to springboard off that and make this Aerith thing the last straw for the others where they straight up have it out with Cloud. I want it mostly because of how frustrating the Temple of the Ancients was. Everyone was like "Cloud's acting a little weird right?" when he had actually gone completely and transparently crackers. I want these people to straight up yell at him and accuse him of being a kook. I feel like it would be cathartic.
I would be shocked if that didn't happen at some point.
I'd argue that no one calling out Cloud's weird behavior at the temple is a bigger plot hole than some of the alleged 'plot holes' people like to discuss.
I'm willing to allow it on the grounds of heat of battle stress, where they didn't want to address it right there in the middle of a giant MC Escher pyramid, but as they're traveling north and Cloud keeps talking crazy? That's exactly the time to have it out. They have every reason not to trust him, which is good drama, too, because it could turn out that Cloud is 100% correct in this instance but he now has zero credibility.
>because it could turn out that Cloud is 100% correct in this instance but he now has zero credibility.
I love this idea, it's such a great plot idea I'm almost convinced they won't do it
>besides, they want ALL the characters, not just Zack
I get that, but you gotta set the bar somewhere. 7R has an immense amount of dialogue for its core cast.

He's either in the main world or the Aerith lives world tbh
For now nothing has shown that you can get revived. And if you get isekai'd you need a living body in the target world, like Zack if he goes to the main world he would wake up in his grave.
The semi-reunion at the end of Rebirth brings Zack and Cloud together though temporarily before it's interrupted and they get thrown apart again. So it seems that under the right conditions a reunion could bring people back just like that.
She's alive. There are way too many proofs of that.
And Square has been teasing the players too much about it since Remake. If they were all done for nothing with no payoff, it would come out disappointing. You can only tease people this far or they'll snap.
Eh, disagreed. I'm not a purist, I'm very much enjoying the Remake stuff, but I think Aerith being dead and in the Lifestream is sort of vital to what things should be leading up to, and taking her away from that severely would reduce what her character ends up being. She's literally the most powerful character in the story on the side for good in the Lifestream, and taking that away from her diminishes her character imo.
I personally wouldn't be mad, but I'd be very disappointed.
>Aerith being dead and in the Lifestream is sort of vital to what things should be leading up to
this already happened, OG Aerith is already there and is the one playing 4D chess with Sephiroth. You have to remember this is a sequel not a reboot, OG Aerith was the one on the dream date.
I don't care what angle they go with exactly, just that I don't want them dragging it out too long. Obviously they can't just solve it within the opening cinematic but whatever insanity is going on I hope gets resolved within like the first 1/3 of the game. I feel like they set up a problem that has a high chance of dragging if they carry it through to the last boss.
I'm not sure they'll even do the lifestream sequence. I mean, they'll definitely do the Zack reveal sequence in some capacity but I'm not sure they'll have Cloud get catatonic in a wheelchair and Tifa go through his mind considering they repurposed those events in Rebirth. They may go in a wildly different direction.
Fans of the original have demanded an Aerith revival quest for decades. In the nearly 30 years since the games been out, I've never seen people claiming they'd rather her stay dead until Rebirth actually managed to keep her alive.
Its alway's been something fans wanted, and its even the top voted request from a Japanese gaming site, that the Remake devs referenced before Remake released. Every single one of these requests made it in.
This reminds me of the old Nip poll for Smash Bros Melee
https://sourcegaming.info/2015/03/23/if-there-were-a-smash-2-poll/
Sakurai used this poll to decide most of the roster for Melee and Brawl.
The big Smash 4 poll that was conducted was pretty decisive for DLC and Ultimate. Sakurai said that poll directly led to him implementing Cloud and Sora into the game.

Anonymous
>10/14 of Melee's roster was because of this poll. 11/14 if you count "someone from Fire Emblem" since Roy didn't even exist prior to Melee.
Thats wild how much influence random polls can have.
Hamaguchi said in an interview that his favorite rumor about the og FF7 was the one about bringing Aerith back. That shit was popular even in western countries, i cant imagine how bigger it was in places like Japan where Aerith is a lot more popular.
Can you imagine the absolute kick in the balls of someone paying $200 for three games where the change the plot and add shit just for it to end up at the exact same fricking place that a 1:1 remake would have and you wouldn't have pissed off your fanbase at every turn and failed to meet sales expectations.
No, because that's not a kick in the balls at all. The over story is already different, the context of everything is different, the gameplay is different.
I'm not sure why a few of you are equating "Aerith must be alive in order for it to not be bad" as a thing.
>the context of everything is different,
If it ends up in the same way it is an absolute downgrade. Nothing about the jannies made the story better in any sense if it ends up in the same way.
>If it ends up in the same way it is an absolute downgrade. Nothing about the jannies made the story better in any sense if it ends up in the same way.

This is why people are assuming your posts are shipping posts. People don't think like that normally.

>Rebirth is already AC. How moronic they are. They made people watch ac before rebirth because it will end up in the same place after the third game? makes no sense.
For me it was always obvious how the links were thematic and visual, like we've seen in rebirth. Also some Aerith lines straight up being the same, infering that she is from a "future" version of herself at times. Never that it would end up there again.

Congratulations, you have a brain.

If she came from a future, that future has to exist.

Yes. In general i'm really curious about how they will deal with the concept of future because it doesnt look like time travel in the usual way, but more like memories being downloaded/sent back. But that Aerith from places like the dream date/sleeping forest is clearly one that knows everything. Everything.

It has nothing to do with shipping. It's dumb from a basic storytelling perspective. They bring Zack back just to change Cloud's underwear for a few weeks and then frick off back to the lifestream? Only a fricking insane person would write that.

FF7 is my favorite game of all time and i love that story but i straight up want a new ending because if they killed the narrative of my favorite game just for nothing i'll be kinda mad.
I'd say why... but it might set those types off again.
So just know that most people are not thinking along those lines. Rebirth threads are filled with a particular type of... fan that thinks very differently than the vast majority of 7 and Remake fans.
There is no way 99% of the playerbase wouldn't consider that a kick in the balls. People thought Mass Effect 3 was a kick in the balls. This would be 1000x that.
>There is no way 99% of the playerbase wouldn't consider that a kick in the balls.
Anon, you're delusional. Most people who are enjoying this game are not coming from the same place as you are.

People are enjoying this because there isnt any absolute route taken yet. The fricking ending is the proof of that, they didnt even commit to killing her or not and have the whole mystery around it. You'll only see the true division when they make their decision.

it is lifestream aerith. Red senses her. SO it can't be an illusion. Just think her being there one of those green lifestream things flying around the player. That's her. But cloud can see actually see it and see her body manifesting for him.

I'm still wondering about the rift in the sky, they made it a point to show that, think it has anything to do with Aerith or nah?

There are 2 Aeriths in the ending.
>when the party is by the water after burying aerith
Jenova
>when the party is readying the tiny bronco
Lifestream. Red could sense her, her dress doesn't react to the Tiny Bronco
>the one who said don't look up
Probably Lifestream Aerith, her voice is projected into Cloud's head
>the one who talked to cloud after everyone had boarded
Jenova. Her dress now can react to the Tiny Bronco and she can speak now.
>the one who said goodbye after the plane has flown away
Lifestream. Again the voice sounds projected.

They didn't even show the death scene in any way that can be understood. You think they chose to edit around it like that just for shits and giggles?
>I'm not sure why a few of you are equating "Aerith must be alive in order for it to not be bad" as a thing.
Well, Nojima straight up said that defying fate is related to her here
It was never a red herring or just shipper bullshit, nojima himself talked about it. The truth is that people who want the og story like to blame shipping when fans who are seeing this new story just want any payoff over what's been set up.
So they have the right to expect something different.
>change the plot with unnecessary shit like the jannies, piss off the purists >arrive at the same exact finale, piss of the people that remained
it would be a kick in the balls for everyone
It's more a matter of...I'm bad at putting this into words...narrative language. When Jurassic World came out people were weirdly put off by way the film killed the side character Zara who was relatively harmless but got an oddly cruel death. People were hung up on it because it felt out of proportion. It was a slasher movie death for a character who wasn't a villain. It violated narrative convention. The "voice" of the film wasn't in sync with how that played out. I think something similar would happen here with Aerith here if they leave her dead. Way too much of Rebirth is spent reminding you how much of her life was absolutely horrific and how badly she wants to live and be happy. They cannot renege on the possibility of saving her without rendering the entirety of FFVII into a tragedy of Shakespearean proportions. It would be cruel. Far crueler than her original death which was abrupt and unexpected. The game reminds us at least one version of Aerith knows she died already and the current one is such a sympathetic figure to just go around and kill her again after all that would completely change the tone of the entire project and not in a positive way. It would turn the game into the bad ending of Chrono Trigger. At that point it would make it seem like the planet isn't even worth saving because the audience's sympathies aren't with the planet, they're with Aerith. If they genuinely wanted to keep her dead they should not have done Rebirth the way they did. The level of narrative cruelty it would require to send her back to her grave would put the audience in a state of apathy where letting meteor hit becomes the therapeutic option. "Frick the world."
I also think from a purely pragmatic angle they're not going to make her unplayable next game, which means she's going to have to be alive in some capacity. Same with Zack. It'd be dumb for them to make him a functional character for one boss fight across three games. It's clear there's a lot more these characters are going to do.
Yeah, this is largely a bunch of shippers all pretending only one outcome would be "worth it". Don't sweat it. That's been Rebirth threads unfortunately for weeks now.
You're correct, but it is what it is. Shippers drove out a lot of people who used to hang in Rebirth threads. So gotta talk around them when they start up.
I'm pretty sure they're going to open the next game with it seeming like Cloud is delusional and Aerith is firmly dead but you're going to get hints that he's not actually crazy and something weird really is going on and she's trapped in some other dimension or an equivalent.
It's completely hokey, sure, but on-part with Cloud randomly being a fantastic dancer and I imagine them being able to snowboard in the next game.
Not letting realism get in the way of fun, which I'm fine with.
yuffie tells you sephiroth has the black materia
there are two
But they don't know he is gonna use it to cast Meteor. It was never mentioned. Aerith is the first and only one to bring it up in all of Rebirth.
Aerith Prime has cheat codes, we’ve known that since Remake.
huh
pretty sure he says it during the hour long cutscene in the temple
It does, same as the base game
>anon skipped chapter 13
But Sephiroth doesn't even have the black materia anymore, Cloud has it in the outro.
Plot crisis averted.
Cloud still Sephirot's puppet
Sephiroth is going to summon two meteors. Its the next game's twist. Double meteor.
>Gee Seph, your mom lets you have TWO meteors?
3 if you count the one from zack's fight at the end.
Square's really taking the Madara Uchiha memes to heart.
Golbez and FuSoYa did it better.
it was so hype when they revealed demon gate
Why would he not use it?
>Meteor is a threat in Final Fantasy VII
>It doesn't hit until Final Fantasy XIV
Wait, what the frick happened in all the games between that? Is this just the world's slowest meteor?
There's no meteor in XIV
newbie
My headcanon is that every Final Fantasy game takes place in the same universe, just very very very very far apart. Like 4 can take place millions of years before 7 and I'd believe it.
Then what would even be the point of putting them in the same world?
There isn't. But that's why the FFX and FFVII connection is so silly. "Yeah, it's the same universe but on totally different planets thousands of years apart." If you're going to do that with those two games then you may as well do the same for the whole franchise.
It’s not. They’re explicitly all different dimensions.
X and VII happen in the same universe like thousands of years apart but that's it
You're pretty much correct except it's not time, but distance. But there are a few FFs that are connected timeline-wise. Like 7 with 10, T with 12, & 2 with 4.
Only Tactics and 12 share the same world. Anything else you mentioned are just quirky references.
How does that work for FFV, which takes place in two dimensions?
You idiot, they say it in the game AND the cast in Remake literally saw visions of a meteor drop even if they lack context for it, so it's pretty fricking easy to put two and two together.
FF7R is a sequel, the events of FF7 OG are still canon and have happened
Aerith is aware of this and knows it will happen
Fricking brainlet this has been known since part 1
Play the fricking game, moron.
Sephiroth tells them twice. In the temple, and outside the FC
No one knows Seph put the black materia in Clouds ass at some point. Theres only 1
Cloud literally uses the Black Materia on his buster sword, so no?
why does black = strong, powerful, almighty, superior, etc.?
Mutt's Law
Because shit has a strong stink
Always been that way. Because black is the antitheses of light. Light is feminine, light is white, light is submissive, light is everything black isn't. That's why people love black.
Satanic hands made this post
So are you saying white is bad? Damn bro.
It's funny because it's a localization gaffe. She didn't say anything about Meteor in JP.
What did she say in the Japanese version?

Holy frick I didn't think it was possible to make Red XIII's voice even more annoying.
Interesting she references Cloud directly afterwards. In english it could seem she is talking abot the party when she says 'you'.
Maybe these two gained future knowledge? They seem pretty confident about each of their jobs
She literally says the same fricking thing.
What is it that they say instead of promise?
Cloud sounds like a frick boi in Japanese.
I'm so glad I played in English.
so true the English cast besides maybe Sephiroth blows the nips the frick out
She literally says "meteo"
She does not. Stop gaslighting.
You misheard. She says #metoo
Aerith knew about her fate at the start kf the remake trilogy. She lost those memories thanks to the jannies but regained them after the temple.
Rebirth is such a mess.

why does she look so weird here?
Its fricking Jenova. It would be stupid if it was not Jenova at this point. Its it's entire thing. Mimicking loved ones, even dead ones.
Also Cloud has the black materia which makes his nonexistent reaction to Aerith's (who does not even acknowledges that she is dead) statement of stopping meteor even weirder.
Nah Aerith is just in some world between worlds shit
It’d be stupid if it was. Jenova has no will of her own anymore.

CGI makes the characters weird, more asian
oh my days she is glowing
She really is too pretty to kill off this time
She has always been pretty since 1997.
they really did more with less
She doesn't look asian in CGI tho? Just a bit off
Square outsources their CGI
their in house artists are more talented and consistent
It depends on which team is making the cgi, sometimes it is really good, other times it isnt. But in general SE reached the point where their models are so fricking good they just need decent lighting.
Cloud would have to be gay to not kiss her in part 3
that might be abit awkward

She looks weirdly realistic, but at least they de-chinkified her since Remake. Cloud also looked very chinky in those rendered cutscenes.
The whole remake triology is a plothole anon
I thought this too, but in the new temple of the ancients they revealed Meteor to the party
It's interesting that they didn't show Cloud lowering Aerith's body into the water.
That was probably the most iconic scene from the original but they left it out in the remake.
Part 3
You could see it in a brief "flash-forward" in Remake.
That was all AC flashes
The prevailing theory is that we are watching Cloud going full schizo and trying to memory hole Aerith's death out of sheer denial (similar to how he forced himself to forget about Zack's death), and that's why we only see snippets of his "this can't be real!" speech and why the game doesn't show him burying Aerith in the water (even though we clearly see the party standing next to the water after they just buried her).
>The prevailing theory
no that's your moron theory
It's what happened you moron
It's not
It's what happened you sub 10IQ monkeys.
>It is the prevailing theory because *HEADCANON*
Thanks for the explanation, brother.
Anon. They're shipper autists.
You have to let it go. It will not go anywhere, you got to trust people on this.
>The prevailing theory is that we are watching Cloud going full schizo
No it isn’t, you fricking homosexual
>(even though we clearly see the party standing next to the water after they just buried her).
This is an obvious assumption to make but remember that it's still an assumption. All we really see is Tifa being sad and everyone else being kinda exhausted. We can't even be 100% certain they're ignorant to Aerith's presence. The entire ending is deliberately strange and skips some critical context.
They also obviously buried Aerith
I realize that's the most obvious assumption but considering how schizo the editing was, we have no idea if they even saw her die.
>The prevailing theory i
kek
>burying Aerith in the water
Bruh what so they just leave her corpse to bloat in the water??? That's fricked up lmao
>he didn't play Final Fantasy 7
go back
That can't be a coincidence. We're making assumptions of what happened based entirely on our knowledge of OG FFVII. We really have no idea what happened from an objective viewpoint at the end of Rebirth. My guess is what everyone thinks they saw versus what really took place will be wildly different.
>iconic scene
shut up redditor
Bitching and moaning about reddit is the most reddit behavior ever.
They gonna use this as a big twist in the lifestream along with nibelheim in part 3. It's pretty obvious
Ah yeah. Him finally letting her go probably.
If the game shows something from Cloud's POV the audience is probably meant to question it's veracity.
>I'll never play rebirth
kek. when part three drops you'll rush to play through all of it. it's written all over your post.
Don't you want the thrill of DyNaMiC combat, the m night shamalan tier twists, and hours of mini game and uninspired side quest bloat?

Why did Cait Sith tell everyone to go to Gongoga?
Did he know Scarlet had plans at the reactor and secretly wanted to throw a wrench in the works?
Did he genuinely think Gongaga held the clues they needed to find Sephiroth?
Was he just throwing a destination out at random because he wanted to play along?
Was he really just following his moogle's fortune?
Because devs needed to contrive a reason to make gongaga mandatory to justify the time spent creating it
Why does Cloud love Tifa so much?

It's unclear if he will create it or if's already there. I think at the moment it is mostly foreshwdowing for what we'll see in part 3.
Isnt this just the end of Fate/Stay with Shirou fricking off to avalon to reunite with saber
Kinda. I really think this story will have that type of epilogue. It fits a lot with what they've setup in the last 3 decades.
I am not the schizo, remember that
Anybody have that op is gay pic with aerithu and tifers, hard time finding it
I prefer OG FFVII to remake
Stop shitting up my wife’s thread. Post more Aerith
no, my wife is gone and this thread is dead
she will be back in part 3
Aerith has a feminization fetish confirmed?
does she count?
I'm completely beside myself how beautiful she is. Just stunning.
It feels like they lowered the neckline of her dress in this game (a shame that there's not much to see there though).
One theory is that the scenes of Aerith dying weren't happening in real time but rather Cloud's latent memories of OG FFVII breaking through.
Why is everyone obsessed with theorizing, this isn't abc's LOST you fricking morons.
If you're seriously asking this question you didn't play the game.
It's laid out as simply as can be. Cloud is creating alternate realities in his head, same as he has always done.
pretending to care about the narrative changes is how they've been shilling these games since remake
This is 100% realistic though. It's like how people will power through while actively at war but then later on the PTSD kicks in.
Cloud doesn't have war PTSD
oh wow I didn't know Nojima posted on Ganker!
He straight up went into the Deepground war in DoC and fricks up people
Just keep spamming your moronic troll shit moron.
The real aerith would never encourage cloud like he did at the end
There's such a fricking disconnection. The real farewell was at the church and MAYBE during the final battle between them vs sephiroth
From what I can tell, here's what's going on with the black materia.
>There is a timeline where Cloud actually rescues Aerith from falling at the Temple of the Ancients
>this is shown when Cloud is starting to wake up in the Forest of the Ancients. A white whisper passes between a scene where Cloud is bringing her up to safety before another one where they're on the ground
>this is probably showing us a timeline where Cloud can resist Sephiroth, which is the one where Aerith lives
>Cloud and Aerith go to the Temple of the Ancients, Cloud never gives Sephiroth the black materia and never falls with Aerith, Cloud can go to the City of the Ancients with Aerith and so is in time to save her
>Cloud still has the black materia, Aerith is still alive, Aerith might still have the white materia
Nomura told us the static scenes are Cloud rejecting reality. So when he realises he has the black materia, he rejects the reality where he was supposed to never have it.
Why are nips obsessed with timeline and multiverse shit?
Buddhism
Sekai itself is a Buddhist terminology at first
You say this as if Marvel hasn't been shitting out three movies a year about exactly that.
But he's not mourning her. The party mourns her though.
I think he'll chase the aerith(s) that lived but at some point will realize (or lifestream aerith will make him realize) that these timelines need to be erased/corrected for sephiroth to lose or something like that, making it more emotional than the og. They know they can't frick up with the og's timeline by the end of this trilogy so things will return to normal BUT they will give characters a chance to say goodbye to each other
>Aerith saying goodbye to everyone because fate really can't be changed
This would legitimately break me, anon. I would have to go to therapy.
That's their idea. They kinda did it at the end of rebirth but cloud's gone as frick so it's not a real farewell
please look forward to it
She said goodbye in the ending
To you maybe lmao but definitely not to non-delusional cloud
That's when it's gonna hurt the most
it'll be different
they'll set it up in order to save the world they will have to finish the convergence, destroying the world in which Aerith survived
yup although tbh I'm still surprised they even had the balls to show a world where Aerith died in this one, I thought for sure they were gunna find some way to skirt around it---then in the final game they'd have to 'correct the timeline' or 'restore fate' or someshit like that which would require her sacrificing herself
They all made their peace in the AC ending
People keep calling me a moron but the composition of this scene really looks like Rebirth's alternate dimensions what with the rainbow shit. I kind of think that's intentional because they're going to retcon Aerith and Zack from being in the lifestream into being trapped in multiverse jail. Which allows them to technically "survive" but functionally be sent away all the same.
I think it's the reverse
the multiverses are a part of the afterlife and the lifestream and they will not survive once the worlds converge
if they end up at the OG ending after 3 games of zack cliffhangers and time ghosts ruining iconic scenes they should've just made a straight remake instead of wasting everyone's time with a pseudo sequel
Read the rest of the interview. Kitase said they're doing all these fluffs for the sake of fluff
If I were Kitase and still had another game on the horizon I'd probably lie. Weren't half the leaks for Rebirth straight up bullshit?
>all the leaks that had Genesis show up
>all the leaks that had Cloud die instead of Aerith
>all the leaks that said the game ended with Zack world Aerith opening her eyes
fun times
in actuality Aerith woke up in Zack world and proceeded to cuck him
>all the leaks that had Cloud die instead of Aerith
I wish Square still had the balls to kill off characters like they did with Chrono Cross.
They literally kill a character at the end of Rebirth. It just happens to be the same death as OG, but recontextualized (whether it worked well or not is a completely separate topic).
>Believing devs before the finished product is in your hand
This board is full of fricking morons who deserved games like fallout 76 and No Mans Sky
Just to get things straight, we are believing the happy ending remark right? And that can only mean Aerith and Zack being revived right?
>that can only mean Aerith and Zack being revived right?
Who the frick knows, anon. Obviously the OG and Advent Children can't be considered the "happy end" if they specifically had to make a comment like that about their hopes for the remake. But like I said, devs will say anything to ensure interest in their product so they can get your money. Don't take what they say as gospel until you see for yourself
I personally don't believe anything these people say because of the aforementioned BS leaks as well as them having a vested interest in misdirecting considering the next game is still a couple years away. In fact, the more they dig in their heels on something, the more suspicious I am because of how asinine it would be to openly spoil your own game.
>In fact, the more they dig in their heels on something, the more suspicious I am because of how asinine it would be to openly spoil your own game.
It's not easy to tell what they will do but it's easy enough to tell what they WON'T do simply by taking a Doylist approach and thinking like a normal well-adjusted human author.
That's why these threads have me banging my head against a wall sometimes. I'm sure it's POSSIBLE for them to fumble the ball. Mass Effect 3's ending happened, after all. But so much of the conversation is dominated by theories that would undeniably infuriate the audience.
The first lesson you should learn in the ff7 fandom is how there is no one neutral here.
correct opinions are never neutral
Also, about the ltd, we surpassed 2/3 of the story, they will need to commit to it until the very end now. If they needed to drop that, they should've dropped at the start of rebirth.
>But so much of the conversation is dominated by theories that would undeniably infuriate the audience.
Because shippers are completely separate from actual fans. Creating theories solely to pair up specific pairs is not in the service of an actual story.
Nta but i think people who expect a different thing because of the whole defy your fate thing arent wrong. It is something they devs have setup themselves, the fans arent wrong in this scenario.
>marketing and game plot bash people over the head with "defy destiny" shit over and over
>IT'S JUST LE SHIPPER THEORY GUYS
found one of the crazy ass shippers
are those "shippers" in the room with you, anon?
the shippers killed my cat and raped my dog, can relate
Shippers always out themselves by getting obsessively defensive about shipping.
Your waifu will never love you.
calm down anon, nobody's gonna hurt you, you're safe, just take your pills and everything will be alright
>totally well-adjusted shipper suggests meds
kek
Shippers are responsible for all writing decisions I do not like
It was never a red herring or just shipper bullshit, nojima himself talked about it. The truth is that people who want the og story like to blame shipping when fans who are seeing this new story just want any payoff over what's been set up.
At this point i want something different because making the ff7 story this convoluted to end in the same way is an absolute disaster, a major frick up.
Obviously nojima is also lying here because it's something i dont enjoy.
They're right though. Shippers are the ones tossing out the moronic theories overall, solely to make their ships work.
Other theories have come out, but there's actually a basis for those theories.
I haven't seen those theories but if you tell me an example I'm actually curious
Then what do you think will happen in part 3, anon? Genuinely asking.
I don't know. But I do know that they're not going to loop around and just do OG FFVII but in HD this time.
OG ending would be the absolute worst case scenario at this point
>which means they wouldnt end the love triangle even if zack was back.
Didn't they pretty conclusively end the triangle with the last 3rd of the game with the dream date, marlenegate and hand hold at the end?
They let clear which one is intended but it's obvious they will please both sides until the very end.
watch them go sike! and give a shitton of fanservice to the other side because they don't wanna piss anyone off
This
why piss off the purists and then not fully commit to the path you chose? that's moronic
>why piss off the purists and then not fully commit to the path you chose? that's moronic
I think the worst issue is as things are right now no one will end up happy because the jannies and the whole fate stuff already changed too much and affected too many fundamental scenes to have the same meaning/impact. And people who want change still didnt have any payoff. Everything falls on the hands of part 3 to deliver.
>other side
I'm out of the loop? What the frick are some of you talking about?
I won't say much because the le shipper schizo will have a meltdown but both girls will get equal romantic shit to have both camps happy and bragging about their moronic ship
I thought the shippers were the schizos? I've always heard that FF7 shipping was a whole other level of horrible, Rebirth is sort of my first encounter with them.
the only schizo is anti-shipper kun
im about to give him a name he so routinely has meltdowns
Oh... I didn't realize you were one of those shippers.
Nevermind, sorry guys, didn't know
I will fricking end you
Iin other threads? absolutely
the last few? there's been an ant shipper schizo more annoying than them and that's a fricking achievement
kek
don't want to derail this, so just going to mention "no", they're not even a fraction more annoying that ship shitters. the main problem is they provoke ship shitters, and it gets worse.
eh
agree to desagree
Pretty much what i think too.
more dates with the boys, now that I can get behind
let's hope the last game delivers or they could seriously hurt their cow and what else are they gonna milk?
>let's hope the last game delivers or they could seriously hurt their cow and what else are they gonna milk?
I dont think it's a matter of milking the cow anymore, these guys are working in possibly the last project they'll do before retire and the conclusion of a 10 year saga they started, they for sure dont want to end their career with a wet fart. Seeing things like this
make me think how they for sure want a new ending but at the same time preserve some of the core themes, i'm curious about what they'll do.
they might be on their way out but you're crazy if you think SE is gonna let the franchise die any time soon
I too want to know what they'll do because the last game for sure will make or brake the trilogy.
For sure they wont make an absolute end to the world of ff7, but they for sure will make a conclusion to Cloud's story.
See, I would agree with this if they didn't push Aerith as hard as they did in rebirth. I mean, a dream date where she confesses and then they hold hands at the end of the game seems like a establishing foundation for FF titles. Wouldnt it be weird if after Tidus and Yunas kiss and handhold, Tidus fricking went back to flirting with Lulu and Rikku?
I agree but then they will just make romantic scenes with tifa again in the third game and that's it, anon. I also think Aerith is being set up as the main girl in rebirth but at the end of the day they will always let the player choose.
>I agree but then they will just make romantic scenes with tifa again in the third game and that's it, anon
Doesn't that seem in poor taste when the other girl in the triangle died and Cloud is obviously having a mental breakdown over her? It would make Tifa look desperate and pathetic if she tried anything with him at this point.
The thing is, at the end of the day it doesnt matter if the game will still let you choose the other girl, anon. At the end of the day what you think wont matter.
>the game will still let you choose the other girl, anon.
You seriously think they will give the reigns to the player after this point to choose his romantic partner? After the gold saucer date, that shit doesn't matter.
>You seriously think they will give the reigns to the player after this point to choose his romantic partner?
Yes. Anyone who thinks otherwise is too far up their own ass to think they won't.
Why would they do this when no other FF has allowed that level of player driven choice with its romance? Like
said, this isn't a western RPG with a clear player driven narrative. Outside of the player choice moments in remake and rebirth, the game gives a decent amount of romantic elements to each girl with the narrative favoring Aerith at each end. I see no reason why they would change this trend.
the romances are one of the most beloved mechanics of the game and will return
That guy is too deep, he unironically thinks the devs will ever end it.
there also needs to be a super secret Sephiroth date if you pick the most antagonistic option for every answer
The last game will also make or break sephiroth as a villain, we are at a point where just being the cryptic motherfricker isnt enough.
what do you think, have they done a good job with him so far?
He is a lot better executed in rebirth, but we still need something more. The big loredump that explain what his plans and intent are will be one of the most important parts of the third game.
the did abit of a lore dump on his motivations in the new temple of the ancients
He said some shit about the worlds, but we still have no idea of what sephiroth is supposed to be or what the devs want to paint he as. As a victim of shinra? manipulated by jenova? just an evil motherfricker? we still know nothing about the guy of what he thinks/feels because for 90% of his aparitions he is just manipulative.
We only know he's twisted, but yeah there is very little about sephiroth. Which is funny because we have so many ff games and the gacha is the one who explored him the most.
>Which is funny because we have so many ff games and the gacha is the one who explored him the most.
The real winner is CCR, with OO coming distant second. EC should have been second, but his relationship with other people there is so shallow and short-lasting and the padding is so bad that it kind of feels like nothing.
Even CC is weird to praise because that shit did the bare minimum. Like, of course they had to show something of sephiroth pre nibel.
they gave too much to Zack and too little to Sephiroth
it should've been more balanced between them both.
All the pre-crazy Sephiroth shit is weird because he's very much designed to look evil.
I dont know, i think he looks ok, the thing is that he is designed to be alien when he is close to everyone else. Because he is.
He dresses in all black, wears a trench coat, and smiles at everyone and everything. If he went nuts, no one would question it.
He's just like me
He only started to smile smugly at everything after he went crazy. In CC he’s subdued, but fairly expressive.
I smirked when he said "you mean like work trips, which is no fun at all" in Rebirth. So out of character.
did you even play CC? he's socially awakward, that's all
all the evil smiling started when he went crazy, anon, he barely or never smiled much before
He smiles plenty when remembering his friends and during their Junon play fight. In the flashback he’s basically grinning happily the whole time until Angeal breaks them up and Genesis gets wounded.
Keep in mind that this is the same dude who was secretly sneaking into the VR training room with his pals to play children’s games like apple-shot. There was a time when Sephiroth liked fun and joked around.
and other than that, you don't see him smile much. Not that the circumstances were ideal for him to smile much but he probably still was a very reserved person.
the only thing actually 'evil' looking are his eyes, everything else is fine
besides, someone said this is 'watashi' Sephiroth
what happened to 'ore' Sephiroth? are they gonna do something with him?
>We only know he's twisted, but yeah there is very little about sephiroth. Which is funny because we have so many ff games and the gacha is the one who explored him the most.
I have no idea.
Ore-roth is the one at the edge of creation that speaks frankly about his hopes and dreams
he appears at temple of the ancients
>he appears at temple of the ancients
does he? I thought that was Watashiroth
I really like the concept of sephiroth but it is insane how much his design carries him as a character. Nomura did some insane shit because he was never fricking developed. He is that popular, imagine if he had the same character writing as Cloud.
I think it is a good comparison. The fact is that when the nibel accident happened he was already long gone and just one bad day away from snapping.
Man the third game would benefit a lot if it had a deeper dive on sephiroth psyche but there is already too much content to adapt. He will never be as developed as he should.
The way aerith talks about him at the end is more like someone feeling sadness over him, the whole talk about loneliness. But still, very little to work with. It's like the devs are afraid of touching him.
And I guess Sephiroth wants as many bad universes to exist as possible for the reunion?
until we know more about the mechanics and his motives for wanting people's misery, we can't call him a Care Bears villain.
I hate they left so much for the third game. It makes sense but I hate it.
Nothing about cloud hints he ever loved sephiroth, this is years of fanfic warping your perception of the story and characters.
It would be easier to consider Sephiroth's obsession over cloud as a type of love. A sick one.
It's not fanfic affecting me. It's the literal scenes of the game. Sephiroth gets fricking right up to Cloud's face ALL THE GODDAMN TIME. It's a weird flex if we're assuming two straight men.
it's called fan service for the fujos.
You got the girls for the guys and self inserters, and Sephiroth and Cloud homoerotic scenes for the other crazies
FF is also on the level where the girls are also for the girls.
more Tifa than Aerith but yes
Both of them are. They just reach different audiences of girls. I often see the asian(obviously) with confidence issues women saying that tifa is an inspiration for them.
I said more Tifa than Aerith because of her clothes, they like to cosplay Tifa more than Aerith
Well, nowadays cosplays are a lot about horny clicks so Tifa will always be the standard route. But i think Aerith is massive between casual audiences.
I wouldn't know about back then and now but all I ever see are Tifas, even among guys.
maybe
it looks more like they're trying too hard to make them friends while keeping the love triangle and it just results into some very awkward scenes and interactions.
>I wouldn't know about back then and now but all I ever see are Tifas, even among guys.
The thing is that cosplay stopped being just a hobby for otakus and weirdos from the 2000s and it is something really professional nowadays where you have a lot of girls with thousands and thousands of followers doing it. So a lot of it is based on horny content. Tifa is mandatory if you're one of these girls.
Tifa is also probably easier to pull off, too, because Aerith's hair is deceptively complicated to get right.
Yeah i feel like Aerith might seem easier because it's a jacket and dress but then if you want to do it well it's harder. While Tifa uses a tank top and a skirt.
It's the parted bangs. No woman in real life ever wears this.
This wig is so fricking good, it looks really nice.
>Tifa is mandatory if you're one of these girls.
I just find it funny how a lot Tifas are fricking flat. I'm not even talking about them not having her massive breasts, they're just fricking flat, not even b cups.
Why cosplay a busty character if you're not even gonna bother with it's most recognizable characteristic?
I dont think it's that serious, when people are into cosplay that much they just do it for fun.
I just find it funny guys, calm down
I wasnt being that serious, just giving my take on it.
A professional that expects you to pay for photos and shit? Sure, they should probably look the part. But random people just having fun like it's Halloween? Let them be.
Aerith has a poorly hidden crush on Tifa based on how she acts around her in Rebirth.
There’s no real reason to assume Sephiroth is straight, to be fair. Cloud is, but he’s also not happy about the harassment.
It's exactly the kind of thing a narcissist would do.
probably not but it'd add a layer of fricked up more to the fricked up sandwich that is their relationship.
From role model (and crush) to fated foe, that's just heart breaking.
Yup. Clearly I'm not expecting they'd do it (though with all the sexuality stuff popping up in video games now who the frick knows) but I think that of all situations it's one where it would in fact jive with what we already know about the characters. I'm not even a shipper but would find it a neat twist. It would actually make Sephiroth come off even more vile.
isn't that why they scratched the idea of making him and Aerith lovers? Beacuse it'd be too dark for him to kill his ex girldfriend? Imagine (it won't happen, ofc) they hinted at that with Cloud? So fricked up
I love all the psychological trauma they make Cloud go through, this would only add to all the terrible shit he goes through.
Yeah because a kid having a role model of a hero is very gay and unusual. Sephiroth was also the reason that made zack become a SOLDIER. Probably 90% of SOLDIERs became SOLDIER due to sephiroh.
How did Sephiroth’s betrayal break him again? Sephiroth is the one who canonically went loony because his bfs had left him.
>I think they really should reveal that Cloud is a closet bisexual with a mancrush on Sephiroth
wasn't that one of the reasons he wanted to bacome a SOLDIER, anyway?
No. Cloud is not romantically interested in Sephiroth. Just stop. Shippers are so fricking stupid.
nta, and I'd like to be wrong, but Square is still too old-school in terms of JRPGs where outside of small side stuff, they don't like diverging too far from a single canon route for the story and characters.
I wish Square would be a bit more bold with FF and allow choice, but you're 95% likely to be correct that it will just resolve the one way.
>it would make Tifa look desperate and pathetic
if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck...
Nta but i think Aerith will still appear a lot in the next game in many different ways. And the way the devs are balancing this trilogy is not the same as the og, they said it themselves.
"Aerith" will appear specifically to Cloud, all up until Northern Crater is concluded.
Possibly, just to avoid inevitable anger from a certain community at alternate theories.
She will appear, how much and for how long, we dont know. And that's it.
Aerith appearing after her 'death' is all but garunteed. The writers hedged their bets with the ending. Even if they hadn't, alternate realities and Jenova larping as other people for the sake of manipulation were already established
Yeah people dont get how this is also a business choice. Aerith is a popular character so keeping her in the story in these unconventional ways not only is interesting for the plot, but also for her fans.
Thing is, if she really is that popular I would prefer they just keep her alive instead of dancing around the mystery of a well known spoiler. Everyone knows she fricking dies. If you want to ensure sales and interest from her fans, keep her alive and stick to your guns on a new story.
I think the game will still do the whole arc about grief and getting over her death because it's just important for the story, but i really dont think that her actual ending is concrete or sealed yet. Everything about what the devs say infers they want to change it this time.
It seems far more likely that the delusions and Cloud not actually confronting grief over her death will play out along side the Nibelheim flashback stuff. Before he's completely mindbroken and temporarily not part of the party.
>Before he's completely mindbroken and temporarily not part of the party.
And fully under Sephiroth's control.
cant wait for when the opening scene of the next game is an Aerith sequence
>The logo tells you it's a story about CAS
>Part3 won't be focused on Sephy
>hurrr muh plot device bawd is going to get a shit ton of focus next game
>hurrr I-I am not a shipper, y-you are
One thing to remember is though Cloud remembered Zack prematurely in Rebirth the writers can still leverage that to explain why he'd flip flop his affections so wildly. You're right that it would be weird for Tidus to do that but for Cloud it makes perfect sense because of his unique peculiarities.
>One thing to remember is though Cloud remembered Zack prematurely in Rebirth the writers can still leverage that to explain why he'd flip flop his affections so wildly.
They made that to debunk the arguments of "he thinks he's zack" and that's what you took from it? lol
It is the cope button, he is zack every time he is with aerith.
You think that issue isn't going to be addressed next game? It hasn't been fully resolved. Aerith and Tifa had a few hush hush conversations about it but neither one confronted Cloud. That's obviously coming next game.
I never said his identity issues were solved, but how the devs straight up debunked the "he is zack 2' that the braindead part of the fandom kept parroting.
why would it not be possible for a man of singular mind to love both Tifa and Aerith
Aerith has the domme personality.
>Adds the dream date sequence
>Every key point of the Aerith GS date is repeated in the main story
>Only Aerith’s affinity cutscenes (beach walk, nibelhiem watertower) are in the credits (Along with Rosa Aerith)
>Directly state in the Ultimania that the Tifa kiss is non canon and should be seen as removed from the main story kek
>The Ultimania in general
The love triangle will never be truly resolved but Aerith is clearly the intended path pushed hard in the main story by the devs.
I just think its interesting that Aerith’s optional scenes get referenced time and time again but Tifa’s are never talked about again or directly confirmed by the devs as non canon. They both get content but that content is definitely not treated equally.
>Shit like "we'll always be bonded" or "We're connected forever."
Someone already said that.
>Nojima
>a normal well-adjusted human author
Either way you'll buy the game. And the game after that; Advent Children: Prologue
It's called fan fiction. The best you could get is a happy ending with characters alive in another universe, but always reassuring the fact that the og timeline stayed the same because some rabid fan would otherwise burn their whole HQ down
who says this all isnt leading to a new sequel
Didn't Nomura say he just wanted this marathon of projects to end? Although he also was the one that just wanted a 1:1 remake so he'll probably get bullied into Nojima's bullshit again
>3 games teasing defying fate
>Lol sike you actually can't change fate no matter how hard you try
How the frick would that be a happy ending in any way? What makes you think they can't change the og timeline this time around? Legacy? Nostalgia? They've been slowly retconning and changing shit right under your nose these last 20 years starting with Advent Children. All this context is just building a non bullshit way to bring Aerith (and Zack) back to life. Otherwise this remake is pointless
What was the point of CC?
wanking off zack and sephiroth
Corneo gonna be happy
>well known part time sex worker
>special course
>30 min course
>150 min course
holy shit anon, that is seriously beautiful
That shit fricked me up when i saw it lmaaao
That Aerith is from a universe where meteor has already been summoned.
There is most definitely a livestream surfing Aerith about but the one talking to Cloud in the ending is not her.
I got the impression that lifestream Aerith was saying goodbye during the dream date because she was going to be erased once the new timeline reached the point that she died in OG FFVII. So she either went kaput or merged with her current counterpart, which might explain current Aerith's odd behavior in the ending.
>prompt an Aerith + Cloud scene
>AI puts Tifa getting cucked in the background
based
>Plothole
>he doesn't know
Not a plothole
Jenova
Tifa is just built to be abused
You can imagine her staring blankly after you done using her as a cumdump for a few hundred gil while she tries not to think about the good times when cloud was still there with her and barret didnt leave along with marlene
She probably deep down knows that this is the future she deserves when she sobs herself to sleep on the floor of some cheap motel that she barely can afford to stay at but she also just cant help but imagine a future where aerith died and cloud was forced to care for her
She probably hates herself for these thoughts but yet she keeps thinking them when she is truly alone
Cloud smiles so little in this story that seeing him genuinely having fun and happy in that scene is jarring. This dude deserves peace.
>If only you knew how bad things really are.
He’s having a great time on his date

cetra steal our boyfriends!
this isn't a plot hole moron. black materia summons meteor, they already know they are stopping a meteor from the 2 sephiroth fights plus the info in the temple of the anceints
Please do not fricking provoke the shippers again. They'll just derail yet again another Rebirth thread.
Just ignore it and post around that shit.
I may look calm but am prepared to unleash hell
Again, ignore the shippers.
Don't let them derail this one too.
have Tifagays lost so hard they are now trying to discourage any discussion at all
Writers left themselves a lot of wiggle room with the ending. Either Cloud is crazy and coping or Cloud is crazy, but there's more to Aerith's presence and his odd reactions than crazy/ cope.
I just want them to make a cutscene for when you lose to Sephiroth of him actually using the planet to travel, I've always wanted to see that
I really hope the party has a big blow up argument over it. I feel like it would be cathartic.
is it really a good idea to confront the crazy guy with the giant sword, though? I don't think that'd be a smart move either
Cloud getting called out feels and should be inevitable.
>because it could turn out that Cloud is 100% correct in this instance but he now has zero credibility.
I love this idea, it's such a great plot idea I'm almost convinced they won't do it
My beautiful wife Aerith
Wait, shippers are STILL ruining these threads?
Where the frick is Barry when you need him?
Barry likes rebirth, tourist.
wtf is that brown cuck going to do
post sales bait?
oooo im so scared
They're all Meat Eaters!
CA is the plot
And the ending
Square Enix I will pay for voice acting dlc for the pixel remasters of 4 and 6.
I thought you were talking about that petition to bring back the OG FF7 voices for a patch...
>OG FF7 voices
what do you want me to say? I didn't read the full post before reaching that coclusion
Original FF7 never had voices, son.
fricking hell, you know what I mean
forgive him anon
CC babs think the series started there
Why don't those petitioners just crowdfund a mod for Zack's original VA? The company is not going to work with them on this.
they probably never thought about it or are afraid to get into legal trouble
besides, they want ALL the characters, not just Zack
>besides, they want ALL the characters, not just Zack
I get that, but you gotta set the bar somewhere. 7R has an immense amount of dialogue for its core cast.
they started a petition actually expecting SE to pay attention to the, having realistic expectation is probably not a familiar concept to them.
Jesus Christ she's so pretty.
Best waifu, shame her VA is a liberal californian pro-LGBT tard but you can't win it all. She's very very pretty but also very garden variety female progressive.
>the 20 minute soapbox about gender fluidity after she played the Honey Bee Inn dance sequence
>>the 20 minute soapbox about gender fluidity after she played the Honey Bee Inn dance sequence
I remember that.
Blocked her channel right after.
Was his original VA really THAT good? Current Zack is fine.
Remake and Rebirth's ultimania.
What will be the symbol of the last part? a yellow flower?
If needs to be small, so yeah. It want be the fricking buster sword.
What happened to Zack in the ending? Did he go back to the Terrier timeline since he was in the church?
Not clear, and that Zack is from corgiverse
No one knows and there is nothing you could guess. That's it.
At the edge of creation
Terrier is kill
he is Beagle bro now
He's either in the main world or the Aerith lives world tbh
>mfw I reach the promised land
She's alive. There are way too many proofs of that.
And Square has been teasing the players too much about it since Remake. If they were all done for nothing with no payoff, it would come out disappointing. You can only tease people this far or they'll snap.
Honestly, I think more people would be disappointed with her being alive than the opposite, mainly due to how the OG plays out.
the only ones that would want the OG end are the purists (and shippers but let's not go there)
everyone else seemed to be okay with saving her
Eh, disagreed.
If these people0 expected a remake it to be a 1:1 to the OG then they could just play the OG. There's a difference between a remake and a remaster.
That is already done for Rebirth. I'm talking about part 3.
You'll have many things explained in the lifestream sequence, but you'll only know the big big mystery of everything at 90% of the game.
It will be reworked, but it will still happen.
I'm guessing both Aerith and Zack will play a big part in it since Zack was there for the Nibelheim incident and Aerith to tackle her death.
Fans of the original have demanded an Aerith revival quest for decades. In the nearly 30 years since the games been out, I've never seen people claiming they'd rather her stay dead until Rebirth actually managed to keep her alive.
>Fans of the original have demanded an Aerith revival quest for decades.
What? No they didn't. Maybe a very tiny minority.
Its alway's been something fans wanted, and its even the top voted request from a Japanese gaming site, that the Remake devs referenced before Remake released. Every single one of these requests made it in.
>more mimigames
I knew it was the Nips’ fault.
You think the people in-tune enough to jump into a specific niche poll are going to represent the majority of people who enjoyed the OG game?
This reminds me of the old Nip poll for Smash Bros Melee
https://sourcegaming.info/2015/03/23/if-there-were-a-smash-2-poll/
Sakurai used this poll to decide most of the roster for Melee and Brawl.
The big Smash 4 poll that was conducted was pretty decisive for DLC and Ultimate. Sakurai said that poll directly led to him implementing Cloud and Sora into the game.
Yeah i really enjoy the character writing but so far the main narrative is A FRICKING MESS. If all that shit amounts to nothing they butchered the story of ff7.
No one is criticizing it yet because they want to see how the third game goes. But not a single person really enjoys it, the characters are carrying the game.
>If all that shit amounts to nothing they butchered the story of ff7.
tghis, I'm all for the new shit unless they don't commit and just kill Zack and Aerith off again or just throw them into multiverse jail. What was the point, then?
>What was the point, then?
I mean, for most people, the point isn't specifically to ensure Aerith and Zack live. Whether that happens or not is independent of what the point is.
it's abig part of it though. Why else would they make the story so convoluted with timeline shit if not to bring them back? them just killing them off means we're gonna arive at the same destination and makes all the added stuff completely pointless.
>makes all the added stuff completely pointless
>if two characters don't survive
I have no clue how you could possibly think this outside of shipping nonsense. If the only purpose of making a new path for a loved game is simply to make a single or two characters live in the end, rather than for providing a different story (and even if it ends similarly or not, this IS a different story), THAT comes across as completely pointless.
stop with the shipping shit, you moron
who cares about that? I'm saying that the changes they made don't seem to serve other purpose than that and them just getting rid of Aerith and Zack again makes everything they did pointless.
fricking moron.
He is probably a tigay that cant think very well and is hating everyone who isnt agreeing that cloud will become a depressed mailman with his family of friends.
>He is probably a tigay that cant think very well and is hating everyone who isnt agreeing that cloud will become a depressed mailman with his family of friends.
I swear clotigays are the only ones attached to AC because most of the fanbase really doesnt care about that ending lol
probably
the level of autism checks out
how are you more moronic than the shippers? what is your secret for this level of stupidity?
>I'm noT a shIpPEr
no one buys it anon. couldn't be more blatant about it.
meds, now
anon, look at all the posts confirming this is all coming from a shipper perspective. they're all complaining about tifa now because all this is obviously them being obsessed over aerith shit.
you didn't fool anyone.
So apparently the "it's not about shipping" posts are full of shit, it's literally that Aerith shipping stuff at play going on here.
I was wondering what was happening.
They are very unhinged because even the most average fan who likes tifa already accepted it wond end up in AC. So they are screaming at any person who says it and calling them shippers.
>They are very unhinged because even the most average fan who likes tifa already accepted it wond end up in AC. So they are screaming at any person who says it and calling them shippers.
It happened after the max podcast. He thinks the next game will begin with AC scenes to tell how the ending will be different this time. Which means no depressed mailman cloud.
>It happened after the max podcast. He thinks the next game will begin with AC scenes to tell how the ending will be different this time. Which means no depressed mailman cloud.
I think it is very possible. And i want the fusion sword.
>It happened after the max podcast
ugh, first the Aerith-Jenova shit, now this. Frick that guy.
Nah, not really. There's been a drastic uptick of shipping stuff guiding posts since people completed Rebirth.
They'll hopefully frick off after a few weeks of part 3 being out once Aerith is confirmed dead. They'll just b***h about it for awhile.
Rebirth is already AC. How moronic they are. They made people watch ac before rebirth because it will end up in the same place after the third game? makes no sense.
NO, CLOUD'S GONNA END UP WITH TIFA IN AC, YOU'RE JUST A SHIPPER ANON
Dude. Do you honestly think the only people annoyed are the opposite shippers on this?
This is why people are assuming your posts are shipping posts. People don't think like that normally.
>being this obssessed over shipping
it's bad, anon, seek help
I was literally trying to help you there.
But okay. I was assuming you aren't actually, but maybe I'm wrong on that.
It's because they're one of the shippers, trying to pretend they're not because they know people are annoyed with their crap.
We dont work with logic here, let's pray for our family of friends still happening.
Everything.
>Rebirth is already AC. How moronic they are. They made people watch ac before rebirth because it will end up in the same place after the third game? makes no sense.
I really need cloud sharing that ring with barret, tifa and other 7 people. You dont get it.
didn't he give his ring to Denzel?
I think so.
Cloud's never gotten emotional over Tifa.
>I'm saying that the changes they made don't seem to serve other purpose than that and them just getting rid of Aerith and Zack again makes everything they did pointless
And that makes fricking zero sense.
>fricking moron
Okay, so this IS shipping shit. Forget it. I'm sorry I wasted my time.
I thought it was abundantly clear that she's dead, and Cloud was delusional like he's been for past traumas.
Well, you're wrong. The ultimania itself is still making mysteries over it.
>Well, you're wrong
...okay, I see what I'm dealing with here. Shipper stuff.
Not wrong. You don't know yourself. But you do you.
The choice is either lifestream or illusion Aerith.
I'm going with Lifestream, that would explain why so many people thought she was acting weird.
This text straight up asks if she is also alive lol
Would you lie to me?
She's obviously not alive there.
it is lifestream aerith.
Lifestream. Again the voice sounds projected.
this is too complicated, why would they shift between all these Aeriths?
One to say goodbye to the party. One to manipulate Cloud.
Frick off with your shitty max theory
It's shit and basically debunked
>First option literally says she could be alive
Why leave that part out anon? There are several of us in this thread that are fluent in moonrunes
They didn't even show the death scene in any way that can be understood. You think they chose to edit around it like that just for shits and giggles?
>I'm not sure why a few of you are equating "Aerith must be alive in order for it to not be bad" as a thing.
Well, Nojima straight up said that defying fate is related to her here
So they have the right to expect something different.
RED HERRING NO HE IS WRONG
>change the plot with unnecessary shit like the jannies, piss off the purists
>arrive at the same exact finale, piss of the people that remained
it would be a kick in the balls for everyone
It's not a sequel. Zack is also dead.
But it is a sequel. Sephiroth and Lifestream Aerith remember the OG FFVII events and there's a prevailing theory Cloud partially does, too.
What proof?
Oh. FF7 shipping stuff.
Didn't realized that's what I walked into. My bad.
Yeah, this is largely a bunch of shippers all pretending only one outcome would be "worth it". Don't sweat it. That's been Rebirth threads unfortunately for weeks now.
"Here, take it"
You're correct, but it is what it is. Shippers drove out a lot of people who used to hang in Rebirth threads. So gotta talk around them when they start up.
Don't poke the shippers people. Thread's almost limit anyway... but in any future threads.
Just leave them be.
Damn, my thread's still up.
I love Aerith. That is all.
we know, Cloud
I should've followed all the others once the shippers took over these threads. Goddammit.
I'm pretty sure they're going to open the next game with it seeming like Cloud is delusional and Aerith is firmly dead but you're going to get hints that he's not actually crazy and something weird really is going on and she's trapped in some other dimension or an equivalent.
They really expected you to buy that was aeriths singing voice?
Briana White can't sing, most VAs don't, not really out of ordinary.
It's completely hokey, sure, but on-part with Cloud randomly being a fantastic dancer and I imagine them being able to snowboard in the next game.
Not letting realism get in the way of fun, which I'm fine with.
