Check the Star Wars KOTOR Remake or System Shock Remake
The first was canceled because Askys wanted to make classic Tomb Raider remaster instead.
I expect Western devs to frick up and flounder with infinite delays though. I don't expect it out of Japanese devs.
System Shock remake is my personal GOTY.
I am so excited for this remake. I hope that Octopath 2's mixed sales didn't make them delay the project, thinking they're no interest in traditional style JRPGs
I didn't buy Octopath or Bravely Default because I don't support censorship
Learn japanese already. If you started when Bravely came out you'd be beyond fluent by now.
I'm doing my best
I’m 32. My life is almost over.
>I... I AM NOT GOING TO HAVE SEX
even more reason to learn japanese
what's censored in the former?
Nothing. The frogposter is just dumb, as usual
inb4 he respond back with saying accents are censorship
Only Bravely Second was heavily censored, and everything after that wasn't censored at all.
hahahaha oh that's hilarious
you really believe that don't you
Prove your claim, then.
did you just miss all the outcry about live-a-live's censorship? or the rest of them? do your own research, homosexual, or continue to live in ignorance.
But what about Octopath 2 and Bravely Default 2? That's the point of the argument.
most games are precensored in development nowadays. you can't trust anyone anymore
Yeah Octopath 2's mixed sales is due to Octopath being a glorified tech demo for the 2DHD engine
It all feels so disconnected, I can't help but lose interest. It does do some interesting things that I like, but it's just lacking a strong, coherent story with proper pacing. Instead, it has 8 main stories all just clashing together in a big mishmash where your party doesn't exist inside of cutscenes, leading to enough le ludonarrative dissonance to put a bad taste in my mouth.
I wouldn't worry. This came out to rave reviews.
same with octopath 2, but square enix is very sales driven
You didn't hear this from me, but the reason this is taking so long is because it's no longer just a remake of III, but ALL SIX Dragon Quest games on NES/SNES.
No chance.
1 and 2 were said to be following if 3 did well so at most I could see a 1-3 bundle.
i'd take a pixel remaster of the dragon quest games akin to the ones the ff games got
dear god, no
Such a thing has basically already been done anyway. FFPR's goal was to bring 1-4 up to 5's standards graphically, which it accomplished. Something similar for Dragon Quest would be 1-5 in 6's style. 3 already got that back on SNES, while 1 and 2 got it on Mobile. All that would be left are 4 and 5, both of which got remakes in 7's style instead.
3 was the only good pixel remaster.
>remaking 1, which is a few hours long
why
>remaking 2, which is a total mess
why^2
Just let them die as the trial and error part of every franchise.
have a nice day homosexual
Oh my souls, kind gringos sir do not be distubings my heart like this. So many Dragon Ball games in one packlage would upend the very spiritual roots of all India in a parade of joy.
You might be right considering they haven’t done it already
You're a fricking moron, mate. SE is the kind of company that is selling FF Pixel remasters at $100 or $20 per individual game and doesn't get a single discount sale in 2 years.
And you're here coping and believing that they turned one game's remake into a package of 6.
You could reuse some assets between all the games but that's a ton of fricking work to go for at once
Yeah, that's not happening.
1 and 2, sure, but not 4-6.
I imagine they're being extra careful of it because DQ is basically a national heritage for a lot of older gamers.
With how rocky Square has been lately, fricking up DQ (and I think 3 is one of the most beloved out of the mainline titles) could be fatal for the company's image.
I don't know how many people consider DQ3 their favorite of the series, but it's definitely the most iconic. Dragon Quest 3 is to JRPGs what Super Mario 64 is to 3D platformers, or Doom to first-person shooters. It's the game that defined what the genre is, and everyone else is just building on the foundation that it laid, even if they don't realize it.
The guys making DQ have basically always been separate from Squeenix proper. Armor Project is Horii's own production staff and usually they work with contracted developers like Chunsoft or TOSE
But yeah if they frick up DQ3 of all games they'd get a lot of people mad.
It's the same team as Live A Live right? Then it's good as gold already.
For DQ3 it's less development hell and more just unfortunate timing. They said development had just started when the game was announced. For all we know the trailer wasn't actually gameplay and just a mockup. Since then, the internal HD2D devs at SE had to get Triangle Strategy, Live a Live and Octopath 2 out the door.
It baffles me that they prioritized all that garbage over the one title people actually want.
OT2 especially was announced post-DQIIIHD2D and released before we even got the first bit of info about DQIII. Who the frick asked for it? Nobody, judging by the sales
>For all we know the trailer wasn't actually gameplay and just a mockup.
The trailer didn't say "not actual gameplay footage" so if that was true then Square-Enix broke the law.
You know the HD2D games are outsourced to different companies, right?
the environments should be voxels.
Nah, but it could use more textures with transparency on top of other textures, to add more depth and parallax. For example some bricks, some leaves, etc.
Wow, is Square's "2D-HD" finally starting to calm down with the bloom, piss filter & tilt-shift bokeh? I can only hope so.
>DQM2 censored
>DQ3RE is vaporware
>DQ12 is currently fricking itself over, trying to appeal to westerners and in turn the devs have no clue to do that while still keeping in tune with the rest of the franchise and not pissing off their home turf
This doesn't bode well
>DQ12 is currently fricking itself over
How do you even know that? Have there been any >>>news in the last what, 3 years? The /vg/ thread's OP hasn't changed in years.
They literally said they don't know what they're doing themselves
>dq12 trying to appeal to westerners
Maybe it won't be boring as sin like 11 was
Japanese devs shouldn't aim to appease or appeal westerners to any degree. DQ espeically shouldn't since the entire fricking franchise is built on what appeals in Japan
SE will need to be forced to not do this tbh. XVI failing is a good start, but they need more failures before they fire ALL the problem people.
There isn't any problem people.
SE is trying to make every fricking genre under the sun whilst playing catchup.
Just make a fun fricking Final Fantasy game that's turn based or ATB.
Stop fricking catering to DMC homosexuals or Kingdom Hearts Black folk.
Make FF what made FF in the first place.
LIVE A LIVE and OCTOPATH TRAVELER 2 both flopped, not to mention FINAL FANTASY XVI
Live a Live did NOT fricking flop you liar, and neither did Octopath 2, it just didn't do as well as the first.
did you SEE the mass effect shit?
If they frick it up their office will get firebombed by the japanese government.
So, what's the appeal of DQIII? Playing the SNES TL and so far mashing A has served me pretty well, I've already been everywhere in the map and the only bosses were Generic Axe Bandit twice and Orochi, and now I need the 6 Mc'Guffins, 3 of which are handed to you in a platter.
>So, what's the appeal of DQIII?
It was a lot of Japanese boomers' first RPG with any real depth in terms of character builds or branching paths. The plot isn't very interesting and it's a little simple by the standards of the time.
JRPGs didn't really become good until they established their own style and conventions in the 90s (outside of some experimental PC shit from companies like Falcom). From DQ1 until like DQV, they were really just dumbed-down PC RPG experiences rooted in the series' creators fondness for Ultima.
Personally I love DQ. I love the comfy Toriyama art and the simple stories and the lighthearted dialogue. But I'm under no illusions about the series being anything remarkable until the 16-bit era
>lighthearted dialogue.
confirmed only played the butchered english releases
Eh, I would say until around the fourth generation. A lot of it had to do with hardware limitations keeping devs from going crazy with storytelling and mechanics. They had to find a way to increase playtime, so they made the games awfully grindy and fill them with Wizardly-like traps. Phantasy Star 1 is what you get when the technology is just getting there but they haven't quite let go of old practices just yet.
And before anyone says anything, the reason DQ never hit big in the west was because of shit timing with the localzation. DQ3 is more advanced than the first FF, but FF1 is far and away the more complex game than DQ, and guess which one we got first? This issue only only got worse with future localziations, and the SNES game never getting an offical western localization until YEARS after they were relevant
>So, what's the appeal of DQIII?
It's when the DQ formula was realized. Micro narratives with simple but engaging gameplay. It's a series that doesn't rely on gimmicks, the bread and butter of the genre.
Hot Soldier hags in the mating press position.
>still no DQ9 remake
Unneeded. Game is perfect as is.
can't play it on wi-fi with the bros anymore tho
Isn't there a fan hosted server? I know poogeymanz have some but don't know about DQ9.
Yes you can. Nothing ever changed to stop that.
>game is perfect
>shit resolution in a 3d environment
>weird mix of 3d and 2d models done solely to deal with FPS issues
>split screens makes it impossible to do a simple 1:1 port
>hero AND party members are blank slates while everyone else is extremely vibrant
>cosplay items exist to make your teammates look like other characters, but why not just have other characters?
>no more wifi
don't get me wrong, port the game with a proper hud to offset the DS, and give it native resolution graphics like they did with the mobile ports of the mainline DS games and I'll be completely content. I just think they can do a bit more. They can even throw in DQ11 and Builder cameos as well now
Is your DS broken or something? Wifi was never disabled. You can still hook up with a bro and play multiplayer.
Oh, did you mean the online functions that also make use of the system's wifi capabilities? Should've said that! In any case, you're still wrong. Wiimmfi is a thing, and has been a thing for years.
>Wiimmfi is a thing
Only if you still have a WEP router if you want to play on real hardware.
If you're an emulator homosexual sure you can use MelonDS to play online but if I want to do it on 3DS or DS I can't.
Because for whatever reasons these games don't support modern wifi.
You can do it on a modern router, but you basically open your ass to security breaches.
Yes because the only way is to actually make your internet open.
No idea if those WiFi USBs still work these days though.
You can set your router to accept the DS itself as an unsecure connection, no dongle needed.
shit I think I own this game but never got around to playing it
FF7 did
I just wanted to understand how difficult it is for the Japanese to deal with "bloom" correctly. I'm starting to think it's a racial thing, like a genetic inability to deal with a special effect in games that makes them all completely frick up when they try to use it.
What are the odds the scope expanded and it's going to be DQ 1, 2 and 3 like they mentioned on the live stream?
what live stream
The anniversary livestream where the game was announced in the first place. Horii had mentioned wanting to also do 1 and 2, but got buzzed by production staff before he could say anymore, a measure put in place because Horii is known to piss off Square by talking too much.
?t=2805
god that live english commentary was garbage
>Half of the announcements
>*No plans for a worldwide release
Why the frick did they even livestream this for the west?
Probably was in Sugiyama's will to take any chance to dunk on the west when possible.
He wasn't dead yet.
Zero. Most likely what happened is that it was in early development when it was announced and it got slightly fricked over because the HD-2D team had so much on their plate. They were working on Triangle Strategy, Octopath 2, Live A Live and DQ3 at the same time. Everything except DQ3 released within a year timespan.
If they do another RE2 like game where you're confined to building, I think they need to incorporate more environment interactions. Like you can push aside lockers to open paths, but why not push them back over to block off paths for enemies? Why can't we just break down doors with some sort of risk of the sound alerting enemies? Why can't I jump out the windows and risk zombie fights to avoid more dangerous lickers is the hallways?
What.
Wrong thread.
Yeah, remember when they had to reboot development of System Shock's remake and just said they had no idea what the frick they were doing.
this thread just reminded me of BG&E2.
look at its description on google. HAHAHAHAHA
That's not from Google, that's clipped from Wikipedia.
They were planning on making it live service shit anyway. Not a big loss
Isn't this being developed by ArtePiazza? They were busy with the Super Mario RPG remake.
Nobody knows who's developing it, only that Team Asano is involved.
The fact it's HD-2D doesn't narrow it down either, since most of SE's HD-2D games have been handled by different dev teams
Is it a mystery though? They've been involved with all previous DQ releases going back to the 90's.
That really doesn't mean anything. And they weren't even the primary developers for many of the Dragon Quest games they've worked on.
They didn't have anything to do with 9 or 10, so that's not even "all previous DQ releases" as you say. And they wouldn't have had anything to do with 11 either had 2D mode not been a thing, since that's all they worked on for that game.
My bad for not specifying. I meant they were involved with all the previous early DQ remakes.
Release date any day now...
Currently next year at some point.
>muh censorship
lick the boot
The only censored game I see is Monsters 2, and that's why I refuse to touch it
This looks fricking horrible, its reminds me of those shitty New Vegas modding videos where everything looks like complete ass.
i don't understand the whole don't appeal to the west, all of you are dirty westoids yet dragon quest appeals to you
Because we're into japanese shit that doesn't try to appeal to western shit.
Westoid frame in end of history, equalism.
Japanese frame is Nietzschean, Great Man theory of history.
Simple as.
Moralism ruins all works.
HD2D needs to fricking die.
finally beat 6, holy shit what a disaster of a second half. on 7 now and its maximum cozy
6 is probably my least favorite of the main games
at the mid point when you start getting advanced jobs it really feels like "aww shit yeah its all coming together" then you find most/every basic job only advances to one advanced job, so its not truly that complex, and the lack of direction just frickin sucks to the point where you may as well just use a guide rather than fly all around the world and guess which npc is going to give you a loose hint of where to go.
Im not going to say any DQ games are particularly great at hyping the final bad guy save for like 4 and 5, but 6s final boss is introduced by the second to last boss and then you fight the final boss and its so frickin gay and underwhelming. I could go for hours about how 6 is almost the best game in the series, but hard cemented as the (second) worst
The main issue with the job system isn't really even the linearness cause 7 barely changed it besides adding more 3rd tier jobs other than Hero, 6 just isn't fricking long enough for the number of battles they required for each job and warping back to the abbey constantly to change them or else waste those battles kinda sucked
The other issue is Knuckle Sandwich being like 10x stronger than everything else for such a huge stretch of the game makes most fights pretty brainless
>game finally gives you Terry, the legendary blue swordsman
>theres like one dungeon left and hes 5-6 levels too low
I hear they fixed this in the ds and phone ports but GOT DAYUM
He shows up above your party's level (probably, I might've been steamrolling the game) but he joins with only couple levels in Gladiator which is the real problem
If you don't intentionally stop and grind you'll maaaaaybe get the useful moves out of 1 job for him by the end of the game when you already probably built Hero and Carver into physical beatsticks by that point. And you're better off just grabbing Lizzie as an overpowered random encounter deleter instead
Nevan is the worst party member in the entire series and Terry is non character, totally wasted. Maybe if he had joined sooner but they saved the sibling reveal for the absolute last minute of the game.
Aishe is lame but if you're shit talking Ruff you're a homosexual.
every single party chat line Ruff has outside of his joining story is "I don't know whats going on, I'm a dog"
Nevan isn't an antagonistic c**t the entire time hes around you, which by default makes him better than Maribel. He also has a slight hint of a personality if for some reason you don't use Carver, Milly, and Ashlynn as your main team so that makes him better than Aishe.
Maribel hurt your feefees in the intro and you went blind with rage every other time she said anything for the rest of the game?
no she was annoying and ugly until she left the party, then I never let her join again
I love VI and think VII is an exhausting slog with bad characters
its an adventure to find yourself, both figuratively and literally, the lack of direction is intended. If you pay attention to the worlds, you mostly only have one new place to go after every story beat that expands how you can travel
>7
>bad characters
I will concede that Carver/hassan, muriel, and barbara are great while so far mirabel is CBT and keifer is a little underwhelming. Its weird that DQ has had musclemen throughout but only what, 1 game has the muscleman as a party member.
>I love VI and think VII is an exhausting slog with bad characters
6 has Nevan and Terry bro
and both are better than every party member in VII, except maybe Mervyn
Ruff and Aishe don't have personalities, and Maribel is a c**t the whole game who makes the adventure less fun
VII is a long ass game, which would be fine if the party along for the adventure was fun and interesting but VII doesn't provide that.
ArtePiazza was working on SMRPG. I assume they put DQ3HD on hold for it.
