Can we all agree this was the beginning of the end for gaming? It heralded in the era of pseudo-philosophical "games as art" whereas most other games focused on gameplay.

the fact that people treated this like the Citizen Kane of gaming for its plot is just comical
game stories are such dogshit
The first Bioshock is fine and a clear milestone in gaming. That doesn't mean it's perfect, but it was massively influential for good reasons.
Yes. Bioshock wasn't the masterpiece that young gamers thought it was, but it's still an important step forward, and I'm glad that we've come much farther since then.
Which is why Bioshock 2 is the MASTERPIECE that it is. Recycle the story so you can devote more time to improving the gameplay. Dual wielding, better guns, upgrading with the camera is far superior, you play as an ACTUAL big daddy. Shame infinite ruined it.
I always felt Sigma was too weak, I get he's a prototype but still. Playing as a Big Daddy in MP was more what I was expecting
>larping zoomer thread
No, now lurk 20000 years before posting.
I've been here longer than you.
Only a larping zoomer would say something like that. Anyone who thinks that games used to be only gameplay focused and that story focused games didn't exist before then is a larping zoomer that has never played any old games.
are you pretending to be moronic? there is a huge difference in a "story" and the philosophical/political drivel that most companies push out nowadays, which I believe can be traced back to Bioshock. they are completely derivative works that morons find "enlightening" or "intellectual" only because they portray philosophical/political concepts like they were explaining them to a 5-year old. at least in the past the "story" games you're referencing were more Odyssean where they were simply adventures that would impart simple personal or interpersonal wisdom without trying to ascribe a deeper political or philosophical meaning to things
>derivative
Pseud fallback
The game is an exploration of ideas not a fricking manifesto you pedant
nah, games like final fantasy and diablo would have fit on a single disc, but have multiple CDs because of the literal non-interactive movie files.
I played the og bioshock without caring much about the story and thought gameplay was good, it was fun to whack dead bodies with a wrench
Yes.
yeah, they really watered down systemshock 2 for console
the setting and atmosphere is cool and unique though (although not so much for the story), without it the game would've been forgotten
>game that destroyed gaming as a medium
>proto-woke
>made by a israelite
Surely this is just a coincidence?
>It heralded in the era of pseudo-philosophical "games as art"
That shit started long before Bioshock. The example of Ico comes to mind. Grim Fandango was sometimes discussed as an "art game" in certain publications.
you have no idea what you're talking about
nah it was fine gameplay wise too. you are trying way too hard to fit in
but i liked that game
Of all the issues with the game, like one the clunkiest gunplays of all times, your issue is with "game as art"?
Yeah it looks good and yeah it's pretentious, plenty of pretentious shit came before this and i'm ok with games having a cool aesthetic.
Plenty of game look like shit and play like shit, this one at least looks cool.
No
FIFA was the death knell
It was the first game to introduce loot boxes as "player card packs"
Brazilians had the last laugh after all
Who needs loot boxes when you can have Bomba Patch? HUEHUEHUEHUE
2 and infinite should not exist.
Bioshock would be twice as good.
2 is just a decent expansion for the first game. I don't see how anyone can object to it.
>I don't see how anyone can object to it.
wasn't made by a israelite
>muh gameplay
>muh waifu
>muh little sisters
Yeah, indeed that's where the downfall began.
2 is just 1 but with better gameplay and Infinite wasn't as good as the rapture ones but it gave us a top-tier waifu and had a good story and some fun play mechanics.
I'm glad all these games exist and I don't understand how people screech so relentlessly about a trilogy of very well-made games when there's so much actual shit out there.
They're mediocrity masquerading as greatness. Search your heart anon. They're not bad by any metric, but holy shit is every single one of them disgustingly overrated.
>96% on metacritic
All I can conclude is that "professional" vidya reviewers are laughable.
I'm waiting for the Sight and Sound equivalent of vidya.
nobody called bioshock artistic, you whack druggies with a wrench 5 minutes in it’s anything but pretentious
you run through the game killing psychos that’s the peak, if you thought it was deep you’re a midwit who thinks basic plots is shakespeare
the entire game is a critique of free market capitalism
I played this game for the first time this year (non-remastered) and I thought it was excellent. A masterpiece, perhaps.
how the frick was bioshock the first any different?
>WHOA DUDE A SLAVE LE OBEYS SO DEEP BRO LIKE IS FREE WILL EVEN REAL BRO MUH ATLAS SHRUGGED BRO
>NOOOOO YOU CANT JUST PUT REFERENCES TO REAL LIFE PHILOSOPHIES IN YOUR GAME IT'S FRICKING PRETENTIOUS YOU CAN'T JUST FRICKING DO THAT GAMES ARENT SUPPOSED TO HAVE DECENT STORIES AND THEMES AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
lmao
