They are very popular in Europe and even Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight did well so I wouldn't exactly say that.
That said I tried to read that comic he translated and the story felt extremely rushed and I couldn't tell who was the main character was half the time.

Someone bad at platformers can still talk about what makes good level design, because a lot of things there are pretty universal and you can always do some editing not to bore your audience. Someone who spends 4 hours on a single Thief level should probably not talk about handholding and how old games were better because you're just giving the game a bad name at that point. At the same time, if you get into political stuff, all you really need to do is keep feeding into the existing assumptions of people and keep afforming them, so they feel comfortable in knowing they have the objectively correct opinion. At that point all you really need to do is observe trends on what/who remains in vogue and for the love of god never admit that the other side has a point, ever. It's fundamentally important your side always remain the correct one just, at worst, occasionally deceived by bad actors from the other side.

This guy comes on screen, starts talking about different options for getting into the series, and then settles on... Gundam F91, one of the worst entries in the franchise. He doesn't really give a good reason beyond it begin self-contained and well animated. Eventually he starts talking about how the Earth Federation sucks, and so do its enemies (typically), but how their ideals are still worth fighting for, and that's why the young protagonists often take up arms for them. He then compares it to real world politics, saying that it was relatable how a bunch of young people were trying to gain power in a "party that is the lesser of two evils."

Now that I'm rewatching that video, he doesn't really explain why Oblivion is better than Morrowind. He flat out admits Oblivion is streamlined and he is a lot more actively critical as well. But apparently it's an 'improvement' and 'near perfect' and leaves it at that. Very mysterious.
I remember he always took pot shots at the Codex every chance he could back in the day so I'm guessing it's just a contrarian thing which is very similar to his love for IW and Deadly Shadows.
