I'm still working on it. I want to add a lot of different things around the map and probably even randomly generate it!
I accept suggestions!

Looks dope!
Oh shit Black person what are you doing?
cool
add npcs that will give player quest
Looks Interesting, maybe an idea here is some kind of high mechanic, where standing on certain squares sets you are different heights, adding an extra layer of strategy by making it harder to attack players higher up.
I would also seek to alter the pawns, who may in this game either become the most useless or OP of pieces, how you go about that is up to you.
Also do what said, that or add some kind of closing wall to prevent players from just running away forever.
Is the brightness indicative of a fog of war mechanic that'll be added in the future?
If so, I think giving pawns the ability to block sightlines may be a way to help address the concerns brings up.
Yes, it's an experiment though, I was testing if fog of war really fits in the game, still working on that.
Yes! I actually modified the pawns, they can now move in all directions and eat in every direction, otherwise they would be pointless. And regarding that height mechanic, If my coding skills allow me to, I'll try to make something with that! (Also yeah, there is a border, the map is 300x150 tiles, maybe I'll add more modes with bigger maps or smaller ones)
That sounds interesting, I just thought about something like: You can place your piece right next to an npc to give you quests or something like that or just eat the npc if you want LOL.
What if you could talk to the chess pieces?
This looks cool, but what's the goal of the game? Making it a "territory" conquering game could be kinda neat. Here's a few suggestions:
>invade multiple chess boards and recruit pieces by capturing them, or by checkmating their king
>ability to command and advance multiple pieces of the same type: ie. moving all of your pawns at the same time
>exploring more parts of the map levels up your pieces and makes it easier to traverse farther territory
>pieces can have AOE captures when you move them to a new space
>special tiles that power up your pieces/influence movement. A reverse tile, a speed tile, etc
>obstacles that move with your character, kind of like Crypt of the Necrodancer
>movement puzzles
>maybe an experience system
>large-scale chess battles
This looks interesting, I like chess so I'm excited to follow this and see where it goes. Good luck.
Wowww those are some amazing suggestions that I wouldn't have ever thougth about, I'll write them down, they are very interesting!
All and All, I'm ready to see what you cook up
Legit a great idea.
cool thing!
