I replayed it a week ago and it really is one of the most overrated games. Dialogue is so primitive, it must've been written by some intern over lunch. The story does go places, but there aren't too many interesting story arcs. Cloud's past is by far the most interesting part of the game. The combat is fricking boring and presents no challenge at all. The materia system was the only somewhat good addition crippled by the fact that the game never really forces you to engage with it outside of ruby/emerald boss fights, which are entirely optional.
Any fricking big CRPG of that era is legitmately better in almost every way than this shit.

You people forget how Cid was actually to Shera. He never hit her or scream at her, he was more just frustrated with everyone and everything, Shera was in the way as anyone else. It wasnt a personal vendetta with her.

Yes, i did. Cid is an butthole to everyone, including cloud and party. Hes also frustrated when Rufus tries to steal the tiny bronco, after the rocket and the highwind. Also, he screams back at cloud when he gets in the way of going into space. It is a general frustrating thing. Not just Shera.

Well in the remake you have barret screaming at employees on the train, one of them was a woman. You have barret even just stomping and scaring Elmyra. You have corneo and everyone at wall market hitting on aerith and tifa in the most sexist way.
