Made a new thread since the old one maxed out.
Anyway I did play my fair share of AoD and can't say much of what Iron Tower put in the Colony Ship keeps my attention. Decadence had a ton of insta deaths due to wrong dialogue choices, but the feeling of width was there, along with cruelty of the world. In comparison, both narratively and aesthetically, Colony Ship feels like a playground - a low contrast one at that so I'm having a hard time discerning anything other than neon signs on the boring, boring hub maps. It's much more forgiving but as a consequences the quests don't even try to set up anything other than "it just so happens that this thing I need right now is right around the corner / down this way / follow me" type of lines. Despite higher production values, combat feels very floaty, like characters keep being jolted into existence, and it has probably the blandest collection of portraits this side of Underrail.
There were some efforts made with the setting, but it feels like proselytizing on a rudderless MAERSK ship, going through one memo after another. Handful of people holding fast to ideologies they cannot possibly care about given what's around them.
As for the gameplay, I'm no expert, in a couple of hours my knife build + evasion + distortion field + carve specialization had no issues with anything, in fact I got a distinct Shadowrun Dragonfall feel and that combat type was terrible. Pretty soulless for an indie game.

I got all the endings in under 20 hours. Game is super easy on Underdog if you avoid all combat, but you can only get 1/2 of the endings without combat. I feel like Age of Decadence was a lot better, but Colony Ship is twice as much better than Underrail.
>Colony Ship is twice as much better than Underrail
That bad, huh? Guess I'll skip Underrail.
>Colony Ship is twice as much better than Underrail.
lmaooooooooo
>but Colony Ship is twice as much better than Underrail.
That's a very low bar.
>Colony Ship is twice as much better than Underrail
I'm deciding between these 2 games rn. Can anyone else corroborate this opinion?
Underrail is a hundred times better
>Serb
ever heard of separating the from the artist?
besides, Colony shipps offers 15-25 hours of content for 38 euros, while Underrail + DLC for 26 euros will give you at least 75-100 hours, I'd consider them both fun but with Underrail you are getting a lot more bang for your buck
>ever heard of separating the from the artist?
No, I was saying you're Serb.
>besides, Colony shipps offers 15-25 hours of content for 38 euros, while Underrail + DLC for 26 euros will give you at least 75-100 hours of soulless shit
Sounds like Colony Ship is still better in this case.
If you prefer Fallout 3 or Fallout 4 over New Vegas, then you will prefer Underrail over Colony Ship.
Underrail it is
Funny because it's the complete opposite for me, yet I loved underrail far more than I ever did Colony Ship
both are great games, pick any, don't listen to the haters, there are no better CRPGs atm if you don't wanna play troony simulator
colony ship is unfinished and lacking everywhere lol pick underrail everyone and their mothers bled the game to death before shitting on it for cool boy points
I called it out as soulless serbian shit from day 1. Underrail and Morrowind are the two worst games that (a minority of) The Codex supports.
>Morrowind
>Worst
N'wah tier opinion.
Underrail is the result of an autist making his dream game.
Colony Ship is the result of RPGCodex regulars making a game to flex how hardcore they are and how 99%+ of gamers won't play it, then crying for more sales and reviews when 99%+ of gamers don't play it.
Translation: Underrail was made by a nobody trying to rip off good games without understanding what makes them good or what makes an RPG in the first place.
Colony Ship was made by the greatest indie RPG studio of our era.
This shilling is getting desperate.
I agree. The seething Underrail homosexuals should stay in their containment zone and stop shilling here.
To be fair Styg kinda fluked out a good game at first. Then he went full moron and removed all the fun and added a lot of choring busywork because RPGs must be "le hard".
Maybe he should actually make an RPG first and not just a bastard child of Morrobliviorim & Fallout Tactics: BOS (that pretends to be a mixture of Deus Ex & Fallout).
Not having quests to meet Mathias and Cobra (and maybe even one more for Garret) early on is a waste of an opportunity. It's a small ship (only 50000 people at the start), if they are going for companions they could at least go all in.
>It is the Year of Our Lord 3754
>In the carcass of an ex cargo ship stuck into Proxima like a knife, one inscription in what were the interior walls can still be read
>"Styg you moron psi didn't need nerfs AT ALL"
Maybe all those things without legs, arms or heads. You only have aim weak point for those.
>Game is super easy on Underdog if you avoid all combat
Not playing the game is supposed to be easy.
Wrong, stealth/speech runs are heckin' valid and cute according to Vince themselves (the creator of this underdog indie game).
>but Colony Ship is twice as much better than Underrail.
>twice as much better
kek, thanks for the laugh ESL bro.
Good evening, I was referred to this website and forum post to ask this question. I generally like to play high int Wizard style characters and saw that there's a feat "Mastermind". A 25% exp bonus seems to be pretty big as I saw another feat that gives another bonus too. However I know this game is pretty combat heavy. What's a good stat spread to go with this?
Since mastermind gets extra feats, you want to put just enough points in to get to their requirements, there are also implants that boost stats by 1
For the landing ending I need high covenant disposition and to replace their leader right? So is killing Knurl pretty much necessary to get enough disposition?
not at all. for that ending you only need to go to the depths of mission control

Frick off Kim Stanley Robinson. I am still fricking mad at that shit you pulled. I've never been so fricking angry at a book until then.
I think you're the only one who thinks this is a reference to that guy
It's not a reference but the same decision is made.
From utilitarian point of view Monk ending is the best.
Is this any good?
Considering playing it
The Age of Decadence (dev's previous game) was much better. Play that and if you really like it then play this.
will do, thanks
I don't mind that they used ChatGPT to assist with writing the dialogue, I'm not reading it anyway.
>They used ChatGPT to write the dialogue
Then why is everything still so barebones?
Why would they admit to that?
Reverse clout
Cause Vince is an alpha male big money manager who is only doing games as a hobby, he doesn't need the money.
That’s really fricking pathetic if true. At most they should be using ChatGPT as an ideaguy.
>7 years in development
>used chatGPT to write
so basically what some anon told us is true, the game we see today was made in a year or two, tops.
It was "in development" for almost a decade until ChatGPT appeared then it was suddenly finished. It's pretty obvious.
What, really? Did they admit it or did you just make it up? It certainly reads like it, but that's how it was in early access too when chatgpt wasn't a thing yet.
>What, really? Did they admit it or did you just make it up?
homosexual is obviously lying.
Will they devs change the gender to body type? Surprised they didn't yet.
Does anyone have a torrent?
I spent all my money on Warhammer minis.
>Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
Complete Dungeon Rats solo.
I play on the casual difficulty, and I'm not ashamed of that.
I hope they do make customisable diffuctly, because with extra skill gain, I really don't need that extra accuracy
true, that would be great

So I wasn't a big fan of age of decadence.
Mostly because it felt like I had to constantly save scum so that I wouldnt soft lock myself ten hours later with early unoptimal choices.
how is this game in that regard? I don't mind limited resources, but in AoD it just felt like such a tightrope walk and if you stayed from the developers vision of what a good character was, then tough luck.
I doubt you can softlock yourself in this one.
Yu can softlock yourself very easy in Serbian Fallout 3 (Underrail) because
>"Nooo you can't progress if you kill my OC donut steal super special NPCs!"
well, that's a very different end of soft lock, yeah?
I'm concerned about resources locks, obviously if you treat it like a Bethesda game and start wasting NPCs, you're gonna break quests.
>well, that's a very different end of soft lock, yeah?
Yes, a genuine soft lock. In good rpgs, like Fallout, Fallout 2, Age of Decadence, Colony Ship, or Planescape: Torment, you can always get an ending (although in PST you give up when you kill Pharod too early).
Try the demo
This is the type of moron that got us skil-by-use in CS. Thanks morons.
>Handful of people holding fast to ideologies they cannot possibly care about given what's around them.
Yep. That's the biggest issue for me. Brotherhood and Mission gays look out of place and too moronic.
Is it possible to frick Harbinger? I want to rape that b***h for some reason.
Apparently? Some Anon mentioned something like that and claimed that I already had the context. Truth be told I didn't even know you could get her as a companion
OK, thanks, I found it.
The question is how do I get my dick wet in her sweet sweet mutant juices? And what chapter is this?
Serbian doing the inversion f truth like Satan.
Could someone greentext the lore for me?
this game is very frustrating, i stopped playing when reached the heart.
And I don't want to start again in hero mode
just do a speech-only playthrough if you don't like the combat, the game is not that long
>an Earth based Church decide to do a pilgrim mission towards the stars
>Reaching their destination will take hundred of yers
>descendants in the colony inside the ship do not care about the pilgrim mission as much as their ancestor do.
>Revolt happens and new powers are created
>They support different ideals and you can side with them or not side with anyone at all
>Half the ship is broken and several tech has been lost across the ages
> Several scavenger live outside the habitat because in order to run futuristic tech you need to delve towards dangerous places which is how the pit functions..
thank you
how big is the ship?
6000km
thanks
>6000km
Doubt
big enough that Mission Control alone is a seemingly bottomless pit and the ship uses trains to transport stuff
meant for
>the ship uses trains to transport stuff
What else would you use? Cars? Fricking moron.
do you see any trains on the ISS? I wanted to make a point that the ship is huge, but of course you just had to type some shit to make yourself feel smarter, homosexual
>comparing ISS to an interstellar ship
My homie you truly are moronic.
ISS is 106 meters long with 7 people on board. For the perspective Colony Ship had 50000 people at the beggining. But I think you just don't understand how much is 6000 km, it is almost the same as Earth radius.
>it is almost the same as Earth radius.
Wait a second, but that means that Hydroponics is fricking tiny since a single human could explore its areas in five minutes if not accosted by wildlife and the likes.
What makes the monks so much better than all the other factions? Considering that they're the faction you're forced to join if you're a pussy who can't fight them.
They are not moronic.
because they are the only ones who care about the actual mission
...
and they have Zeta.
Protectorate cares
Protectorate say they care but all they care about is seizing power and totalitarianism
I can't really trust the monks. They can't feel empathy towards a regular human, so why do they need everyone else other than to do jobs they don't want. Besides, being in charge of life support, they could have easily prevented the post mutiny conflicts, but chose to do nothing
This game is just a constant source of anger for me.
Why would moving everyone back to the residential area suddenly make it easier to support the population if its the same amount of people?
The air is spread out a lot less. The first few lines of the game explain this even.
That sounds stupid and not how it works.
More energy is needed to pump out air and water into the pits. I don't get what's stupid about that.
Energy isn't the problem.
Zeke's quest is all about energy.
game is literally a poor man's underrail
Keep dreaming, underbabby. Your soulless slop will never be a real RPG.
it's not even as half as good as underrail
None of you can't read. The Pit or rather the ship itself has zero problems. It's all the Monks doing it.
From my understanding The problem was that life support systems were being used on the pit. Sucking in Co2, pumping in 02. That sort of thing, while the monks could easily continue to support this operation. They decided not to and instead cut those resources being used in the pit in order to lengthen the operating time of the systems closer to the pit. cannibalizing's the parts used for the put or putting a lower strain on the systems or whatever.
Regardless, vince is a hack.
I mean the dude who made it is a complete moron what do you expect lmfao.
So OP, if I wasn't a fan of AoD, will I not like this? How long is the game? All endings can be obtained in only 20 hours?
I got the shut down the engines ending.
Can post if you guys want to see it.
How did you do that? I attempted to convince the mutants and then the story just kinda moved on without resolving it.
Kill the mother, but have enough disposition to convince her replacement to turn off the engines, which is hard because killing her mother fricks rep.
That fricking mother... Damn her and her radiation addled brain.
just be a cult leader, bro
you weren't born with 10 charisma?
lol, sucks to be you
Let's wait and see what transpires.
that is said a lot, huh
What's the best cult leader build? imo
Mine
Hmm is jed good? I think you can get by on Fayth and Evans until you get the mutant guy and/or your faction friend.
He's the only one who can wear the stupidly fricking good armor with the biggest damage reduction. You have to build to make your character anywhere near how tank he is by the end of the game.
Thoughts on weapons?
Shotguns
Rifles
SMGs
Pistols
Want me to go into detail?
Knives are the best and Jugger to wield them
You get 18-20 damage, even higher with power attack
The highest damaging rifle is 15-18 for reference
So knife is more damage for half the ap
You are forced to dump per for str though, which means it's a solo build
With solo your stats will get really high so even without high per you will have so high skill that it won't matter
This build is insane just did triple worm without even a grenade and only using 1 zen
Oh yes.
Miss more than half your fricking attacks
What's with these factions? I'm at the part where you have to choose and they are all irredeemable trash. I'm going to go Brotherhood then, might as well choose the most the moronic one.
should've gone church
Maybe. Are they any better? They didn't attack it but they hate the pit even more.
No, if anything they're worse because they're cowardly and hide behind religion instead of ideals or duty. If they could attack the Pit without disturbing the balance of power they would in a heartbeat.
>all this seething
Colony Ship truly is the Gothic to Underrail's Oblivion.
Why the frick did they need such a big Factory sector? They shouldn't have that big of a demand for industrial goods.
The whole Mutiny thing seems unrealistic.
Idle hands are the devil's playground, they needed something to keep people occupied in the journey and the Factory would have been excellent in the colony had the Mutiny not trashed everything
also I haven't read every document in the game but I have this crockpot theory that the Mutiny was staged by someone from within - perhaps a splinter faction of the Synod wanted to make a grab for power but things got out of control, as we can see. It makes sense to me that someone wanted to grab power, as they were only 12 years away from reaching the planet, so it was a "now or never" moment.
How do I get a mutagen injection for the Mutant cheevo?
Kill the psyker frog in the armory, bring its brain to the cultivation area of Hydroponics, kill 3 more, choose your mutagen
Kill a psyker frog and bring its brain to the chick in the Hydroponics lab.
You need four frogs
1 is in the armory
2 are in hydroponics
1 is in mission control
The mission control fight can be hard with certain builds
There are some frogs in the factory if you go past the turret.
yeah but I don't think you can go back to act 1 for a while after you enter the factory
You just know you will be able to pull an Avatar and side with the Psyker aliens to kick the humans back to earth in the sequel.
spoilers, bruh
So who's got the best pits?
Based on popularity it's Jonas > Braxton > Mercy.
To become an Ace Prosecutor, I need to kill more people in chapter 3?
Did you do all the court cases in act 1?
Yes
you got the offer from the harbinger?
did you get to the last case then
Yeah, I haven't done the Harbringer quest yet, does finishing that trigger Ace Prosecutor in chapter 1?
I don't think so.
Were you offline?
Yes, I was in offline mode, I didn't realize there was a cheevo for beating all court cases. I reloaded the game and did all the cases in online... no cheev.
weird
So you got it when you defeated the last case in chapter 1? The chapter 3 fights don't matter?
No, I got it in chapter 3. You did finish the fights, right?
did he like it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ1abyawVhY
i was gonna buy this but i read a playthrough is only 15 hours? wtf that's it?
That's because you can fast travel & there is no dogshit trash combat. 15 hours of REAL UNIQUE CONTENT.
I'm 17h in and nowhere near the end. Maybe it's 15h on a followup playthrough when you know the game better, but still, some fights will take a while.
Vince, what the frick did you do?
just press autosort
Ok I just finished it by ending the ship. Ended on a sequel bait. Laaaame.
Power! My power!
explain wtf
Rifles are the best single-target damaging weapon type if you go full critical focus. You can kill most enemies in one turn. Better yet, you can critical hit on reaction shots a surprising amount of times, killing enemies on their own turns. If they weren't so reliant on Dodge This! I'd probably rank them number one, but shotgun has the honor of being probably the only weapon type that works best on a solo talker mastermind combat god hybrid
I've played this build and never got this strong tbh
Have you tried tagging rifle and critical strike?
yes
Are you sure?
yes are you playing on easy or something there's no way you can have 10 critical strike in act 1
I picked the training tokens that increased critical strike every time. Also, I made sure to aimed attack. It's actually really easy to max out your heroic feat XP gain skill if you tag it. I got 8 in evasion as a fast runner by the end of act 1
what implants to be honest
what about the third
I plan on having it be synthetic heart
>Rifles are the best single-target damaging weapon type if you go full critical focus.
they are not
hammer is. dodge this hammer is insane dmg even on dr15 mobs you can do 30+ dmg a hit
I'm playing knives jug now and its insane. 17-20 base damage for 4 ap, even more with power attack and insane tankiness. 50ish percent crit with power attack
I did the triple worms fight with no nades only one zen and one regen
And detroit fight was super easy as well
Tankiness is OP in solo.
I've seen rifles videos it's so hard you gotta throw nades, reposition and shit, with my jug I just run in and mow down everyone
>jug
>dodge this
anon
two different builds
I was talking about dodge this hammer having higher damage than rifles
And jug knives being a better build for solo in general
bitch, you get gunned down before you even reach your enemy
no you dont
you wear the best armor and have +2 natural DR on top
the first rounds you have distortion and never get hit because of lone wolf and tagged evasion
after its down you get minimal damage because of armor, natural DR, and max con hp with all the implants (if you grab bionic you can get heart as well)
Post screens.
Detroit fight only used 1 aggro and 1 regen no nades
If you dont want the cheat version just dump int and dont tag crit but I can't resist doing the exploit on all my builds
>cheats
>OH MY GOD THIS BUILD IS SO FIRE
have a nice day
It's just 3 points and it's not a cheat it's an exploit but whatever
I do it on every build so they all get the same advantage
>blade jug
>critical blunt
Have you actually tried either of these?
yes
jug knives is OP
blunt crit is hard to lvl because you need per and your defense suffers, I'm just saying on paper it has higher damage than rifles due to pen
post
screens
If you dont want the cheat version just dump int and dont tag crit but I can't resist doing the exploit on all my builds
>name
Perdido Street Station reference?
no it was one of the default names and one of the few not exclusively israeli
what's the cheat version
If you choose the gunslinger template and customize it, you can deselect gifted but keep the extra stats and skill points
WHAT
Energy Shield and firefighter helmet make this fight waaay easier
try it
Addendum, unless you have absolute dogshit luck like me.
JESUS FRICKING CHRIST
75% CHANCE! 75%! I HAVE MISSED THIS EXACT SAME FRICKING SHOT IN THE EXACT SAME SEQUENCE SEVEN TIMES IN A FRICKING ROW
whole game is bullshit
no, this is just what happens when you're moronic enough to actually set your chance to hit to a 1 in a hundred number generator
Welp, my first solo run has hit a wall. Can't win the armory invasion. Admittedly wasn't very well though out build, but the real problem is SMGs don't do enough damage. It's fast runner build.
Ty for reading my blog
>SMGs
Yeah, they're underwhelming. Not meant for penetrating armor or killing a lot of people. Really good for killing dodgy douchebags though.
why fast runner though?
jug for melee, dodge this for range, and int for skills are the best solo heroics
con is not bad either
fast runner is more of a party heroic
for smgs I would probably pick con and outlast everything
I wanted to see how strong SMGs were if you build around actually hitting all attacks in a 5-burst. Could've tagged better.
Guess I got my answer
Bad idea. I mean, the SMG feat for specialization goes on about how it increases graze damage.
IS the church missing a quest or three?
A requiem for Detroit
missed opportunity
Wait a minute, did they get rid of the combat options menu?
>~~*they*~~posting
quit being a homosexual
No matter how many times I do it, I want to tear my goddamn hair out
Go out the door, the 3 eyes won't shoot.
kill the frogs
then kill the eyes through the gap in the door
>Go out the door
>kill the eyes through the gap in the door
what. you can't do that
why don't I react with 115 reaction?
Your enemy has to miss. Also, you lose reaction chance the more AP you spend.
>Trying a lone wolf gifted 10 DEX 10 PER SMG build
You really can do a lot of damage when you know what you're doing and delete the most dangerous person first (usually the ass with grenades). But man finding a good SMG in chapter 1 is a pain. You have 2 Old Cobras and what else?
Creepers can bite me tho, considering tagging stealth to avoid them the most I can in chapter 3 and for the big Armory fight.
>Also, you lose reaction chance the more AP you spend.
When do they tell you this?
tutorial probably
or it used to be like that
also
>using SMGs against creepers
lol
SMGs against creepers
Yeah, 13 BR? You either bite the plasma bullet and use the Annihilator or you're done. You'd need like 50% penetration just to really do damage, and they don't come alone in chapter 3.
don't do it man
I found out a way to complete the hardest stealth mission while looting almost everything without it tagged (requires 21 AP with stealth at 7)
Tag friendship ended with Stealth, now Biotech is my new best tag friend
the trick is how do you get stealth 6 by the factory without it tagged
Skill monkey + Neuro Stim mutation = 50% skill gain.
I only fully sneaked the Black Hand base and the scavengers in hydroponics. I sneak stabbed the first guy in the Samson fight, the melee butthole in the Armory fight, and the guy in the back in the Detroit gangsters fight before initiating combat with the rest. If you have prowling, you can do the eye sneak mission with 5 stealth and still get all the good shit.
how can you get neuro strim solo tbh
If you buy or find a stasis, you can use it to buy yourself some time on an aggro stim's drawback, which I did in here
Have you tried taking Sunny with you?
Detroit... where solo playthroughs go to die
newbie here. didn't want to select a premade so i looked for a character creation guide and this one seems p good. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3064773551
Beat the game once more as a super optimized version of my already optimized build.
I think I'll stop now. I have no idea why, but this is addicting.
Is it absolutely necessary to tag both persuasion and streetwise? What if you're playing a non-combat char with high initial disposition?
I see many solo builds tag both.
yes
i haven't tried a single tag high charisma build to test that out
From what I've read in the steam forums you can literally beat the game with just a tag in streetwise
You don't need any other skill or stat to finish the game
Never played a non-combat guy though so can't confirm
How do I offer the machine to the Church? The homosexuals want good rep with them and my char is shit at sweet talking his ass from trouble.
This game is based af. Finally an rpg that isn't pozzed.
>leader of the Church is black
>Mutant matriarchy
>leader of the Nazis is a white (presumably straight) male
And?
the mutants are also moronic, which is fricking hilarious and accurate
no matriarchal society has survived to the modern day, if they even existed
>We will settle Proxima!
Hold my fried frog leg
of the Church is black
not ideal but not really a big deal either
matriarchy
this actually dunks on feminists
of the Nazis is a white (presumably straight) male
based
What's the difference between the staying on the ship endings? I had the one with the Brotherhood which was ok-ish. They didn't do anything too bad and planned on liberating the natives, but it was mostly the monks calling the shots and managing the colony.
spoilers fricktard
I really hate how every faction sides with the monks.
For frick's sake, kill them. Am I the only one with two braincells that sees the massive fricking problem viewing humans in terms of pure rationality, reducing them to just numbers, actually is?
>kill them
How? The only thing they lack is numbers.
Like this.
And the oxygen thing?
The frick are they going to do? Make the entire Habitat unbreathable to buy themselves a few more seconds? Letting them grow their influence is a mistake. They all need to die. As a 12 int god, I can easily replace them and teach others how to work the machines, assuming they don't fall in line when they realize there's no chance in fricking hell they can win.
>Best ballistic and energy weapons in the game are only available near the end
It's not fair
psychic frog battles... where solo builds go to die
Couldn't be me.
I hate Mind Worms more. 9 early game BR and 100 initiative? You better have points in melee.
energy weapons, my boy
also, prep-fight zen stim
A flashbang on a weaker psy frog(the one with only 10 shield) will make it skip the turn
what!
Thoughts on how every interaction with the game begins with dialogue or a button?
The game really needs just a basic b***h ass frag grenade
Considering the vast amounts of body armor and the realism they're going for, a frag grenade wouldn't do shit. Look it up.
all implants are in act 1, that squad one is really easy to miss not that it helps out solo
>solo healing factor
i see you've chosen agony and despair
I don't run out of hit points I run out of ammo
there is little difference
I hate this battle so much frog knockdown is BULLSHIT
>knocks 5 AP off
>gives enemies 95% THC bonus
i like knockdown when it benefits me but holy shit, frogs are bullshit
>hehe you have to fight this battle minus 15 AP 🙂
yeah, it wasn't really meant for solo but i did it anyway
I did it then I hit quickload
oh, i'm sorry
more accurately I took the zen upgrade from the doctor and hit quickload to check if the skill gain was retroactive but I hadn't saved
...oh
well, the skill game is retroactive
i am sorry
>Meet Harbringer in chapter 1
>Do the sign to ward of evil
>It actually works
Had a good laugh but it's a shame that now I'll have to redo the solo fight against Solomon. I bit the bullet and used a high tech grenade. I won't completely recover the costs from selling the loot (or the opportunity cost, since you get like four or five of each) but the melee+sniper+energy weapon is a blight.
Also, the energy armor set really seems made for solo builds. Gaining a 6 attack buffer zone and 2 AP at combat start is golden.
Colony Ship makes me wish for "Underrail but good" and also "Colony Ship but good"
There's no way 1 regen is worth 15% skill gain right?
Really depends on your build
but lol
healing factor build so more regen might just be good enough
How do you upgrade mutations? Just use enough of the stim?
Yup
regen seems much much easier to upgrade than zen in that case
You only need, like, four or five to fully upgrade.
Make sure to show your character at the end of your solo journey. Be sure to be stylish but defensible. Stylish and deadly.
But I'm going to Detroit Gate, where solo builds go to die...
Solo pure combat builds, maybe.
Here's something to help every hard fight: use a disruptor and gas grenade on a group of enemies. Shoot each at least once or twice. The combined damage from panic and poison will kill them or at least drain their health close to zero.
smiles didn't make it... waiting for these two to run out of ammo
That...is kind of ingenious actually. But very time-wasting
it's a strategy I learned from many runs through the courthouse
The item descriptions describe the Sol Solar System as a fricking shithole
Why is there no sneak trainer
Okay, reaction chance is no longer determined by AP.
also, opportunist is absurdly fricking broken with this build
where do you get pipe dream bling
This was probably the most unnecessary thing I have done purely for the sake of seeing I could do it.
Clearing Detroit.
I cleared detroit but didn't know about it
Oh, I'm sorry. Did you just shoot at me, b***h?
It's in the little weird hut by the station, man
rude
like this tbh?
Yes
Very nice
you got the bling bling?
yeah
the distinct lack of cumbawds in this game for your gigachad 0cs to breed is disturbing
frick off back to your owlslop coomer
die a virgin
I'm married, but virgins are based
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
i wish
Underrail is so fricking trash compared to Colony Kino, literally had to refund it immediately. In The Pit you are free to join any faction. In Undershit, you attack some guy miles away from your soi start faction (that you have to work for no matter what) they somehow know. DOGSHIT.
b8 somewhere else
Kys soiserb. This is your soi game, no freedom, only DOGSHIT trash mob combat.
So what in act 2 gets cancelled by going to act 3 without finishing it? So far I've found:
- Shadow's sneaky quest
- Shuttle Bay quest
There is no reason to walk on straight to act 3
Yes there is, for example if you need a skill check you can maybe train up on some stuff in act 3
Eh, if you missed out on stuff in Act 1 and want to level your stealth, maybe.
sneak is easily the worst skill in the game
You and your boys should've known your place.
me on the left
Don't be such a pussy
how did you kill it tbh
Bullseye crit chaining
I crit then die
Energy vest to soak up damage
you are fond of that scream
having trouble getting my other skills up tbh
>10% skill gain on combat skills
godfrickingdammit
i missed out on a lot
don't worry about it: you won't need anything other than rifle and critical strike
it's possible to get an even bigger bonus to combat skills with the int implant, I see you took heart instead of armor
You need 8 biology for that. Maybe I'll try it with a full combat oriented mastermind build one day
with the extra tag skill you'd have 8 biotech
Eh, doesn't do much. Good thing I saved
Sorry, Romero
I finished the game as a full combat encounter focused character.
well, that was fricking fun
surely guns guns guns would've been better than gunfighter?
Probably. It really wouldn't have added much though.
I did a quick test, interesting results
with full cover there's no debate
head gives bonus to accuracy because it's the one thing that peaks out
sharpshooter gives more in that case because it ignores 15 cover
Is there a specific pit mayor/faction choice/delivery choice to get 100 combat?
Not really. I just went full merc moron by accepting bribes from Braxton and then Jonas
After beating the game a couple times and test running builds, I gotta say picking Gifted or any feat not heroic at the start is a massive waste. Sure, gifted gives you three extra stat points, but those will never match the benefits of the other heroic feats. Same with the normal feats. You'd have to be going out of your way to not optimize your build if gifted is your only heroic feat too. Strength and charisma are some of the greatest examples of dumpstats I've ever seen in a game.
Strength could be better if it gave more recoil control, but it only gives 5 points per lever above 4, it's not worth it for any ranged build. And I picked Gifted because Dodge This seemed bad for SMGs (good luck getting crits with those) and Fast Runner seemed worse than stats, getting worried here.
Blade or blunt?
Imagine leaving your thermal vision at home...
My understanding is blade is usually better but I'm sure blunt has some good things too
This one's just a bit too tough
meant to post a picture
Add trainers for streetwise and stealth
just play on hero
This fight also seems a bit too hard
Oh god, no. That fight is the easiest "hard" fight in act 3. Pulse grenade, disruptor, and high smoke
well I can't beat it
pulse turrets
pulse and disruptor covered guards
smoke that area
run over there
hide behind one of the muties in cover if you have to
>tagged evason
>12 dex
>high grade smoke
>mk2 distortion field
>the fricking shotgunner grazers me for 15 damage a turn every single time without ever missing
Yeah, that's why I decided to choose Jugg for a melee build.
Sorry, dodgegays, you are dead if you can't tank grazes.
hide behind an energy turret, the two sniper buttholes will come out of cover. Smooth sailing from there
don't forget to save your games
Honestly at 12 critical strike you wish your character wouldn't kill enemies so fast you need evasion/armor skill ranks not more crit
So to experience everything in this game, you just need two playthroughs right?
I already finished the game on Underog/0 combat/intellectual white man route. Not sure if 0 kills is actually possible, but I did kill some people/creature through dialogue, indirectly.
Now playing as a Magical Girl (black woman with Marvel superpowers = Hero difficulty = due to her extra melanin letting her channel extra abilities granted to her by God's chosen people) who kills every man who looks at her badly and props up the sistahood.
>combat
>hero
fricking why?
I already did the hardest combat on Underdog when I reloaded to get a Habitat faction ending (had to fight the strongest creature in the Colony Ship - a homie with a library card).
Is it worth trying to balance combat/non-combat skills, or is it better to fully commit to one like in AoD? I'm only a couple of hours in, but I think I might have made a mistake and spread my points a bit too thin.
pros do that but they know the game by heart and which choices, stats and feats to pick to get everything at the needed thresholds
for a first run I'd recommend one or the other
I was referring to speech mostly and solo play
If you play party you can have faythe as a skill monkey to do electronics, lockpick, computers and stealth and if you pick the skill monkey and thief feats she should reach the thresholds needed to get all the extra loot while the rest of your party murders everything
and bionics only needs a tag from one party member
>Is it worth trying to balance combat/non-combat skills
Yes, you cannot talk your way out of everything. You have to balance talking/fighting (or helping your party fight) or if you wanna go solo talking/sneaking.
>Yes, you cannot talk your way out of everything.
You absolutely can though and it's one of the selling points of the game
Nope, you cannot talk your way past frogs or do certain quests for your faction of choice. Only beta b***h double traitor route is allowed using pure speaking (and leaving the ship on your own).
yeah you can't do everything
just like you can't do everything through combat
but you can finish the game
>So to experience everything in this game, you just need two playthroughs right?
3-4 times, minimum.
damn, romeo's pretty pathetic
did you fully repair him?
I have no skills
well duh
I swear Reaction is bugged in the Hargrave fight. I got around 80%, dodge 5 shots (including a burst) and shoot nothing back.
Also, a QoL change to sell anything except a kind of weapon and anything above x1 amount of every armor would be nice for solo builds.
If there's an enemy next to you, like it says "close combat" you can't react to ranged attacks or movement i think
Am I dumb or is there no way to change mouse sensitivity in this game? It's way too high.
Are SMGs good ? Smiles is killing everybody.
Ranged weapons suck if you ask me. Age of Decadence melee dominance is palpable.
cope
lol, get gud
The folxer itt are saying SMG are bad
Blowing frogs to pieces feel really satisfying, whatever else they do.
Late game enemies have high armor, you are very unlikely to penetrate it with bursts
So you can be a "Pure Human" if you become a mutant, but not if you take implants?
Heart or subdermal armor for solo combat?
I swear these combat encounters are just unbelievably stupid when it comes to arrangement, and this one in the factory might just be exhibit number 1 for that.
Why am I forced to start in the middle of this fricking room surrounded by gunmen, when the intro describes this as you opening the door and saying 'oshi there's homies! Run, y/n?' Because frick me?
What's the "The Black Hand" cheevo about?
I got it when I infiltrated the Black Hand base, killed thugs with Faythe, then didn't know how to get out because she couldn't lockpick/computer, went back to my cell, and that somehow meant Black Hand/brotherhood wins the Factory toll road.
>Frontal Assault I
>Frontal Assasult II
>Front Assault III
So this is why Vince had to use ChatGPT to write the dialogues huh. Dyslexia a b***h.
Jesus Christ, combat in this game is hard. Trying to do the Mysterious Stranger quest, and even taking out two people with sneak isn't enough not to get party wiped by the remaining two.
Ok I beat the Black Hand pseudo solo (does it count as solo if you fight with Smiles?). Though it took a disruptor grenade and twenty tries or so. At least I learned smoke grenades help SMGs with multiple opponents if you have high reaction. Inside the smoky hail of bullets, grazes matter more than hits.
>Pssh, just some thugs
>Dude with an energy hammer uses an aggro stim and crits Faythe for 22 damage
You have to earn your stripes. This isn't AoD. Drown yourself in the endless river of red. Raise your head and be reborn. God or demon? Both are the same.
What is the threshold for combat reputation? Do I need to do every single combat inthe game to become a psychopath?
>Do I need to do every single combat in the game to become a psychopath?
Basically yeah. I did almost all of them, missed probably 2-4 in total and still didn't get a psychopath level.
Is "Still Alive" a permanent feat or does it go away after a whille? Am I gonna be walking around with a permanent HP debuff forever?
permanent
Oops, I should have savescummed those early fights then.
this game is strangely addictive
i know, right?!
unlike underrail
why do you keep trying to start this shit
I'm willing to start up pretty much anything.
Except Underrail.
CYKA BLIYAT FRICK YOU
>blades have great reaction chance
>hammers have stagger to make tard bashing easier
>daggers have greater aim
>hammers have great aim too
this is so fricking weird
you forgot about the AP, the most important stat
knives have 5 AP, 4 with berserker
so with 20AP, reasonable in a solo build, you can do 5 regular attacks or 4 power attacks
if you combine this with juggernaut and max str and cage fighter, you are looking at +7 dmg per attack
so thats 17-19 dmg, even more with power attack, which is more than the best rifle
only you can do it 4 or 5 times per round!
in this type of build knives come out on top easily
2h hammers have super high base damage but high ap cost so they don't benefit as much from high strength and such
also they have the best penetration of any weapon
i went with precise strike because grug bashing is kind of fricking moronic
I wanted to go with precise strike but some hard enemies are immune to it so I went with berserker instead
>some hard enemies are immune to it
the frick are you talking about?
is it possible to avoid the monk ending as a non combat char? i like the brotherhood but trying to slippin-jimmy my way out of conflict seems to shorten my options
I don't think so.
MY KNEES ARE INDESTRUCTABLE
GOD MAKE MY SHINS AS STRONG AS AN OAK TREE
When in doubt or surrounded by enemies, flashbang yourself.
>tink tink
AHEM
I like both Colony Ship and Underrail
Thank you
I wish I could like underrail
I'm really starting to like how this build is turning out. Will always be inferior to Dead Eye Malachai and Prodigal Uriel but it's good
forgot to post how it's going
he cute
In the steam forums, I saw people mention partial parties, mostly with just Faythe as a sort of medic and skill monkey. Anyone here do something like that? How did it go? Companions seem like an all or nothing kind of thing
Faythe has ridiculous skill gain. She's the only character you need for all skills.
Yeah, but she's easily the worst companion in combat.
sounds kinda shitty
you lose lone wolf, the most op feat and gain a useless companion which will do nothing in combat
legitimately sounds harder than solo to me
>mostly with just Faythe as a sort of medic and skill monkey. Anyone here do something like that? How did it go?
I played just with Faythe and ended up getting the secret romance Faythe ending.
wtf
>they don't know about the secret romance ending
man, frick off
what's your excuse? you're not a filthy fleshbag are you?
What's the one for all seven?
No Longer Human, which adds an additional -1 DR energy and 2000 dollars in exchange for upgrading squad leader
It is really disappointing you don't get access to the monk implants. If you kill their hitsquad, you can still loot their bodies after because their implants are invisible but still in the game.
Theoretically, this build would be broken. A multishot-focused fast runner shotgunner with health as well as good armor to tank the grazes evasion wouldn't help with. Rifles are better suited for crits than bursting. I tried out a gifted nearly full strength burst-focused gunner and he wasn't even close to Malachai. Shotguns with double shot only take 5AP with controlled burst where two snapshots would cost 6AP. The only problem I saw with this was the strength investment in favor of other stats.
I was wondering why I'd want to use doubleshot over two quick shots. Stagger I guess
Critical chance too.
I honestly wonder what the point of pistols are now. They're not as good crit weapons as rifles, shotguns do more damage, and smgs trigger reaction bursts.
Without sneak being tagged how are you supposed to get enough sneak to do eye of the blind or to stop this war? tbh
Prowling lets you do Eye of the Blind with just 4 or 5 sneak. Also, cloaking field.
You do actually need sneak tagged for stop this war or to have enough dex to just run straight through the place
I don't see any way to do eye of the blind with just sneak 6 and a cloaking field
Prowling
also, high dex
In my experience the shotgun + regeneration build wins by making enemies run out of ammo
How's that been going for you?
comedy of errors
it is actually really funny if you think about it
"Commander, we keep losing soldiers to this c**t!"
"How?!"
"She... She takes all of our bullets."
"We have literally thousands. How is that possible?"
"I mean we fire all of them into her."
"...What?"
>The bullet is a mad thing; only the bayonet knows what it is about. -Alexander Suvorov
Just how are you supposed to kill the robots in maintenance as solo? It has 13/13/12 in resistances and 130 hp. Just coming back later with level 3/3/3 gadgets?
Everythings coming up Ichabod
>sneak 2
at least put a trainer into the game ffs
is a juggernut build actually worth it? I feel even for melee there's better options
I guess it's not for melee
Is it cheating to disable the turrets? I could've just outright killed them but I chose not to.
Fight is insanely fricking hard if you don't. You have computer tagged?
What exactly were you going for?
ywnbaw
You are beautiful and valid.
how is that build working out for you
that's almost exactly the same build I was thinking for my next run
for reference
Is there an SMG build
if you're not a support, you're going to suck
Why can't we all just get along? They're both good games that approach the genre differently. Our real enemy is owlslop, larian etc.
Send me a pem if you find out how the reputation combat system works. It had better not be just +1 for every fight you win.
Brothers please. Let us not fight amongst ourselves. Underrail and Colony Ship are natural allies.
Is there any way to kill harbinger and take her hat? asking for a friend
...have you tried not killing knurl?
no
do that
>First Daughter's big brain "plan": Okay so listen up, you walk up to the queen and fight her guards and then kill her
what did you expect from a woman
Even dumber is you can go and do it. Seems like a Stupid Drunken Dare story.
it's the only way to turn off the ship engines
Frankly unnecessary considering the lander ending. It just works, you only kill a lot of unprepared innocents.
they were going to die regardless
>Solo Big-Brained Gigachad
Lander
>Solo Murderhobo
Protectorate
>Full Party Messiah
Engines
And what about the other habitat endings and actually landing the ship?
Double shot takes 5AP with controlled burst and reload takes 2AP with quick fingers, adding up to 7AP. I can shoot 6 times in a single turn. That's one more than a long burst. I can shotgun burst twice with the first auto, also shooting six times for nearly all my AP.
okay thanks enough colony ship for today
you can do it
I should've done this build ages ago.
where do you get a doomsayer that early
The final courthouse fight. Also, killing the Regulators on Jonas or Mercy's side.
Why are SMGs overpowered vs PC but useless against NPCs
Because tanking requires a great deal of investment stat and feat wise.
If the enemy shoots 8 bullets into you and is left standing in the middle of a corridor over your dead body, he wins (or puts you into a 3 turn clock to save Faythe's squishy ass when you're a team player). If you do that, you get made into Swiss cheese next turn by his 5 buddies.
You did good, Smiles.
I'll finish it
Requiem for Detroit
wandering around the ship looking for something to repair
>get injected with mutation junk from psionic frogs
>tied to stimulants you can take
this is how psykers happen
feels goodman
You don't even need Ultra Zen if you got the zen mutation
>enemies can throw grenades through walls
you're not trying hard enough
I have high disposition bonus from 9 Charisma and the ~~*merchant*~~ feat. Are the loyalty feats on companions even worth it or can I freely piss on their feelings to optimize quest rewards?
Honestly, as long as they're not unhappy, it's good. They just give party-wide buffs if they're happy. If you're a cult leader, it doesn't matter what you do.
> Charisma 9
> Cult leader
I'm asking if those party wide buffs are better than say, the combat or stealth SP from killing Morgan, from a strictly combat-oriented perspective.
as long as they're not unhappy, you moronic speed-reader
Pictured: Abraham if his ancestors never joined the ship.
Any good pre-Earth RPGs?
The only thing they fear is... Tau Six.
You sided with the Monks?
oh, lol
you found out why smgs are useful, even if they're kind of shitty
Tried a meme build with 4 ranged skills taged 10 per, 10 dex and feats that improve guns in general like big game hunter. Pistols are definitely the worst, seems like anything they can do a shotgun can do better
Pistols are like a red-headed stepchild now. SMGs have the niche of being the death by a thousand cuts weapon that can kill those pesky dodgegays, shotguns are ranged but also double as a melee weapon, Rifles are for big crits and big bursts, and pistols can crit more in various sizes....yeah.
What's worse is that the various pistol types are done far better by what they're trying to ape: longslides won't do nearly the same amount of damage as a precision rifle or have the same range, the multishots don't do nearly the same damage as a shotgun, the semi-automatics won't burst as accurately as an assault rifle or SMG, and revolvers won't match a shotgun in snapshot spamming damage unless you're lucky enough to crit every shot. It's good as a support weapon you keep on Faythe so she can contribute through crit aimed shots at limbs but not as a main damage dealer, much likes SMGs.
Imo all pistol attacks should cost 1 ap less to make them worth it
Maybe a something like fast shot or more "unique" feats should be implemented; This is my only gripe with the game aside from the lack of engagement.
Still implementing 3 AP shots (2 AP for snapshots) is way too low without severe disadvantages.
Maybe make reload ap cheaper instead?
Man that one dude with the shotgun in the battle against the Mother can bite me. Poison+those damn grazes (which deal like 5 damage each and that he almost never misses) just eat through low hp. First battle besides the robot one that really feels like I may not win even by breaking the bank with grenades.
You can group them by retreating and then throw two high tech grenades at all six enemies, but then it's a damage race against their graces. And then you have the turrets with 60 hp, high ballistic DR, and no gadgets.
smokes + distortion and aimed armed shots bruh
Do you think I haven't tried that? But the dude must have like 8 levels in the shotgun skill or 10 perception, I don't know, he still graces me. He's the only one who really hits me consistently too, maybe I should take out my helmet and use the heaviest chest piece I have to reduce the graces from the double shots.
Best to just use a stasis on others so you can focus fire on the shotgunner
I played the early access and I remember a church rep opportunity where you had to do something for one of the other two factions but you could instead go to the church and rat them out. When is that?
I expected the religion aspect to be played up a lot more than it is. Probably a scathing attack on Christianity. Instead it's just kinda >church people are nice except lol electropope
they're the best faction in the game
>Completely locked out on combat runs
psychopath bros...
the church is the one faction that legitimately doesn't want to annihilate their opposition
That's horseshit.
nah
What do you mean? If you play as Church, you are forced to do combat or join Protectorate also?
You can only offer the machine to the church if you can actually resolve their problem
I resolved their problem in the habitat without killing anyone.
Also all the minor factions that support the Church are backstabbers that demand of you to kill local leaders.
Oh no! Not MUH I-Couldn't-Give-A-Frick JONAS! Not MUH In-It-For-Money Braxton! Not MUH Dumb-Enough-To-Live-Near-Habitat-but-not-pick-sides Moses!
what fricking betrayal?
not a single person you off was ever in it for more than themselves
>what fricking betrayal?
Mercy backstab Braxton the moment he wins against Jonas. Nicholas also betrays his boss Moses.
....
....
....
>Church run
>Encourages you to put a backstabbing woman in charge
Think I'll be an honest salt-of-the-earth murderhobo instead.
dumbass
Stay mad amoral backstabbing moron.
this was kind of disappointing after chapter 1
it's what happens when a game spends 10 years on 1 area then has to finish the rest in a month
Schmitt's Partisan theory made it to space, by a Sneed no less!
Do you ever meet Hargrave again if you don't kill him when you first encounter him?
in the brotherhood bar
he has a power cell mk2 you can steal with 7 skill
i thought mission control would be the next logical place to go after the armory but i'm getting my ass handed to me here
frick this shit, i'm going to the factory
don't go to the armory you'll get your ass handed to you there
game progress is about pingponging across the area raising your skills until you complete everything in the chapter
I meant don't go to the factory
>Unload weapons from enemy corpses
>take ammo not weapons
>exit
>open up loot screen again
oh... that's nice. Free ammo.
Sort of liked it, but I dislike the new skill system. Just feels so weird. But not a bad game imo.
>Sort of liked it, but I dislike the new skill system.
What was the old skill system like? I didn't play it in early access.
Dunno, just compared it to Age of Decadence.
I prefer the more classic approach with skill points that you can save or spend as you please.
And not a huge fan of companions either but I don't regret buying it and I'll wait if they do updates like with AoD which were nice.
So what is the best outcome for Factory? In my first run I just stuck with the ones who were already there. I think Detroit Gang should be the best because dey black pipo.
factory is kind of fricked by principle
Can I leave some fights for when I return to the Pit after visiting the factory? I couldn't kill the frogs in Hydroponics and there were a couple of fights I couldn't do in Mission Control, and I'm wondering if they'll still be there when I get back.
If you mean the mind rape zone and the leg rape zone, yeah. I'm not sure about Mission Control though. If you couldn't kill Hargrave, you're probably not going to see him again.
Assassin achievement, what's it about?
When I'm trading with a vendor, is there any way to compare their goods with something one of my companions has equipped? I know holding alt compares it with what I currently have equipped.
holy shit, i cannot keep evans alive for the life of me, everyone just dogpiles on him in every single fight regardless of where he is
i might just skip this factory fight and run away (RIP smiles)
Are you positioning your Jed properly?
this is how i'm trying to start the fight, then i stasis the guy at the back as soon as possible, poison the ones at the front and start chipping away at them
everyone is so squishy though, faythe and evans are dead in two turns and i don't have enough shields to go around, plus there's no good cover aside from the table in the centre
>using a stasis
>Full party
>Evans in Shield rather than in Distortion
>No Shield on Jed
what the frick
switch positions with jed, have him gas the three on the right, have Smiles flashbang the middle three, bullseye the sniper or the right-most tank guy, pray you crit, and unload on them if you do
i just cheesed it in the end with pure RNG after like 30 attempts
no one ever targets jed so i don't bother putting a shield on him (even if i put him right in front with no cover, they always go for evans and faythe)
Did you tag evasion for him? Please tell me you didn't.
nope, i tagged armour instead, but his evasion is higher than evans, so maybe that's why they always go for him
>2 evasion
>higher than evans
what the frick
i mean, they're both at level 2, but jed's is closer to levelling up (i don't know if that makes a difference)
>colony ship
>can't ship anyone except yourself and the historian guy
meh
spoils, homeboy
>he actually believed it wasn't a joke
What is the mercy quest? Somehow I've always missed it in 100 hours
I liked Age of Decadence but somehow this one isn't keeping my interest. Pretty sad because I was looking forward to it for years. Still happy to support games like this getting made but man the writing and aesthetics of the world just feel dull.
I made a smarty talky dude and so far I really do just get to solve everything without any effort by clicking the green dialogue options and holding tab to click on all the non-combat highlighted things in the world. I don't feel like I'm playing a deep rpg whatsoever.
The little bit of combat I have participated in was mostly just really slow and basic
>shoot hands of dudes and spend the rest of your action points on doing as much damage as possible
and didn't really inspire me to start a combat playthrough either. For Age of Decadence I also didn't like the combat but at least it felt harder to make a successful talky build, or maybe I was just stupid and didn't have the RPG exploiting skills I have now.
It's because there's no real mystery or intrigue to the world and it doesn't utilize the setting well.
>colony ship founded by christian "fundamentalists"
>All right cool
>so here's some fashy vibe guys vs evil commie vibe guys oh and some cyborgs called monks
Last for Faythe is trans
there's no such thing
Kill all Church larpers.
save all souls
