I really don't get why RPG developers don't randomize certain plot points, such as the traitor in WotR. Why not have the game roll a hidden check at the start of the game, and depending on the result a different character will be the traitor? That way you can avoid players metagaming and they have to rely on their characters actual skills and judgements to figure out the traitor in each run.

I didn't play either, I wasn't even expecting ship combat. How does it work?
hard to explain without showing you, the ships have various systems as you progress through the game and dependent on your companions, for example, Cassia can send the ship through short warp jumps that moves you ahead, Abelard can make the ship turn completely around at the end of movement phase, psyker nigress can reveal what side of the ship is vulnerable, and so on. Maneuvering is actually vital and somewhat frustrating because the ships can only move in huge left or right arcs, so you REALLY need to plan out how you're going to approach your enemies.
You have limited number of moves and range. You can ram an enemy if you don't move too far and what you do depends on which direction your ship is facing. For instance ramming is a single straight line. But you have quite a few abilities on level ups, like rotating your ship by 90 degrees, moving it left and right by a few blocks, teleport, increasing range of your guns (which you can swap) or increase number of torpedoes you release and also can control and if they manage to get close to the enemy you can detonate them or if they hit directly they just explode. It is pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Some things need to be tweaked like some bullshit abilities of some enemy ships, but it's enjoyable.
Yeah. Honestly ship combat is quite fun once you get the hang of it. I personally did quite a few fights though before I even knew there was a level up tree for the ship, but once I did it became very fun. Maneuvering, using all those abilities, different weapons and torpedoes. It may be the best side system so far from Owlcat.
