could you see yourself playing a game with AI voice acting? personally I think this is an insult to humanity itself and would never support such evil in gaming

a game is the product of labor and love, if it's not then it's slop

good luck knowing when a game has AI VA without being told, the technology is already at a point where you could easily have entire characters voiced that way as long as they don't have to do any particularly deep or complex emotional inflection

Please provide a single example. I can usually tell something is Ai voice-acted 10 seconds in. From what I've heard: Ai doesn't have the ability to convincingly mimic human speech flow, it still feels like words strung together with no sense of natural timing or emphasis.

If the AI is used for generating the actual sound of speech, it would be good. The writers could make the dialog so it includes emotional cues and volume levels, plus pronunciation instructions and the AI could use that information and contex clues to voice that text. With more advanced procedural writing systems you could have Bethesda's dreaded "radiant quests" with infinite variations of quest dialogue that can be voice acted by the AI in natural-sounding ways.
Actual AI writing though, that's still too shit to work. All of that type of systems would need to be proprietary to your game so the AI would know what they can say. They can't just draw inspiration from some arbitrary real-world data or data from unrelated fiction, or they would end up spouting bullshit.

its fricking over. In 10 years theres going to be dev software purely built through prompting. Deving a game will be easier, even if its low end consumer shit. Dirtty israelite and "le investors" want to be market their literal dog shit to every single person possible. Its why every game studio triple downs on all this random inclusivity and liberal feel good shit.

All they care about is the maximum amount of money they can extract from consumers. Thats all they care about.

more like a flood of consumers trying their hand. Its will only get better after shovel ware phase is over. AI reduces dependence on the amount of people working on your project. Less people mean less likely they will transmute your vision into something shit.
Many games have been completely ruined by voice acting, and thats a fact. See any final fantasy game.

Not to mention the hundreds of pajeets who won't actually give a damn about making a game and will only want attention and a quick buck. Enjoy steam or itch getting flooded by thousands of android trash level "games" based on whatever meme goes viral at the moment.

If it's a choice between mediocre VAs and mediocre AI then why the frick not? It's not like most low budget studios have money to spare on that shit. Would rather the cash was spent on more development time than on a human VA.

You're never gonna get a thespian level performance, but, like, 95% of human VAs won't give you a thespian level performance, either. It's hard to justify something that will give the same result but cost a lot of both time and money.

Not really. Unless it's a mechanics-first game like Mount and Blade where voice acting and dialogue in general is pure flavor, current level Ai voice acting is too off-putting.

I also can't bear to watch information-heavy youtube videos that use an Ai voice.
