Played the new alpha, perfomance is a lot better and audio feels more finished, overall you can tell they've been polishing it a lot, but the game itself feels like nothing special, hardly any new features or innovations over the previous games, what a pointless sequel.
They should've made an expansion to 2 instead of asking $60 + Tax + Tip just to play the same game with prettier graphics, 2 wasn't very good but it had the truesight thing which made things feel fresh, 3 doesn't do anything new or exciting.
company of heroes games kinda suck dude
the first one was really fun at the time and it felt innovative and fresh and the graphics were really good, but the core "le tactical but le casual" squad gameplay of company of heroes is boring as frick, shallow, tedious, and dare I say it

im gonna fricking CRINGE the next time some FRICK tells me that it is FUN to select the SQUAD and click the GREEN COVER and watch the unit SHOOT at another SQUAD and MISS 99% of its SHOTS at an UNREALISTICALLY CLOSE RANGE that feels like fricking SHIT
>watch the soldiers miss 99% of shots at an unrealistically close range
*frowning basedface* >watch the soldiers miss 99% of shots at a realistically long range
*excited basedface*
Unironically yes. I know SD makes CoH player cope and seethe but watching MP-40s mag dump people from 5 feet away doing chip damage is a massive immersion killer.
I totally agree dude, as a singleplayergay watching my units do basically no damage despite shooting at an enemy squad at point blank range for 2 minutes is feels so bad man
Yeah that’s great and all but CoH games have 5x as many players as SD games so clearly most people don’t agree with you.
imo a lot of the mechanics would make a lot more sense visually if the infantry squads were 10+ size like they were irl. but i think relic couldnt into big squads because the framerate in coh 2 chugs like hell even with 5 man squads

There 2 things that makes CoH unplayable to me, the super zoomed in camera, maybe it's done for performance purposes, but it makes the gameplay very claustrophobic and makes it more annoying to jump around to see stuff.
The other thing is the ridiculously short engagement ranges, again I get it's an abstraction for gameplay purposes, but they went too far, seeing tanks fight at knife stabbing range all the time is really silly and it makes infantry maneuvers less interesting.
I like the squad system a lot, it gives more personality to the units than in MoW and it makes a lot of sense, members of a squad act together as a single element, just give me a free 3D camera and longer engagement ranges and I'd love it, I suspect the reason we don't have those things is that it would turn off more casual players.
The DoW/CoH engine handles equipment through a wargear system, it is responsible for sticking bits onto the model itself as well as adding/replacing weapons. They could make pouches a separate model and slap them onto the same wargear entry as the relevant gun, so that they keep a single basic soldier model that gets different ammo depending on what the guy has. If not for the moronic "no altering models" thing they put on coh2, we'd have that fixed by modders years ago.
>ugh the pouches are wrong why won't they make pouches a separate model in a game that already runs like ass this is what's wrong with vidya these days
autism
You have no idea how the models work, right? A .model file which their engine uses is a combination of meshes, and those meshes are comprised of elements. Each element is comprised of polygon surfaces and vertices. The vertex count is the only thing on that list that matters for performance. If we remove an amount from the big fat model and designate it as its own one, the vertex number per dude is going to stay the same, and your potato computer will process everything with no extra effort. It's not optimisation that causes them to do this, it's laziness and disregard for history and immersion. Shitelic are a bunch of hacks with the work ethics of a Montenegrin and the pride of an asshurt poolack. That last part is the real problem because they won't even let others do their work for free.
Why autists on this board are obsessed with CoH pvp?
Its a gamemode played by at most 15% of player base, the sales % is so miniscule yet devs pander to those fricks too
Coh multiplayer is my favorite RTS MP ever made, no other series even comes close.
I really wish all these newer RTS games would follow CoH instead of Starcraft/C&C/TA for the 8th million time.
/vst/ is the obligate single player/Sim City board when it comes to RTS. To most posters, any PvP is derided as "asiaticclick". Not to mention that it's autists who behave this way, the normal market prefers multiplayer, this is true for most genres not just strategy.
You are simply too stupid to understand the game has been given away for free multiple times and thus that number is lower than it actually is thanks to people that get the game but never play it.

this. The game had 150,000 peak from the giveaway and average 10,000 players today. The other anon is moronic.
"play one campaign mission" has a 40% competition rate meaning that only 40% of people bother to boot up the game
which means something like 25% of people played automatch
also:
Campaign conscript has 9.something %
and pic related
It's true that more people play single player in general, but coh proves that focusing on multiplayer isn't bad for business
>the normal market prefers multiplayer
Even fighting games with subpar singleplayer content flop (see SFV), strategy games have always been famous for their campaigns, including "asiaticclick" RTS games. AoE4's and DoW3's recent flops confirm beyond any doubt that you are the autists that are the minority. Normies in general don't like 1v1 multiplayer because you can't shift the blame there.
The other Anon is right and yet wrong. If you look at older RTS people loved to play compstomp and custom maps, multiplayer was a really popular component of the RTS genre. Now the competitive scene? That was always dead and people actually prefer to watch the pros that play themselves (and hence the so called esports grew in popularity). Newer games tried to force people into grinding a MMR number and that's why they failed.
>If you look at older RTS people loved to play compstomp and custom maps, multiplayer was a really popular component of the RTS genre.
IIRC this is still true, the actual most popular part of SC2 is the Coop missions against AI.
The problem is devs only go for the E-sport scene and don't care about much more.
I never understood this mentality
obviously the devs are going to balance the game and cater to the active multiplayer community?
Because healthy PvP numbers means publicity, word of mouth, streams, player retention?
who else would they Cather to and how?
The earlier alpha was even worse, it was like they got the janitor to record the units lines, I'm guessing it's because it's still an alpha, despite the game releasing this year...
>despite the game releasing this year...
It doesn't take much to swap a placeholder for a finished asset
They probably wanted to make sure they didn't miss anything because it's inconvenient to hire a voice actor to re-record only a couple of lines
wouldn't want the vehicles screaming "Forward!" when giving a reverse command like in coh2
I'm thinkin a Day 1 Pirate from me fellas. If some years down the line the game is in a good enough state to actually spend money on for regular updates, I'll buy it through like G2A or some shit.
I'm not spending a dime on this until I see the overhaul mods.
I hope they keep unit assets seperate between mulyiplayer and single player so that when they inevitably patch factions for multiplayer they also don't frick up the units in the campaign like they did with CoH2.
Only played it once so far, but the sound design is a little lacking. Artillery explosions especially, but most explosions sound "tinny" and lack depth, weight or bass for more emphasis.
Overall the game and style is much better than the previous beta. I was worried it would become more cartoony or arcady in style and graphics but thankfully it is alright.
Looks good
someone makes chad vs virgin of full-clothed alloids vs cargo shorts nazi.
played the alpha, was very cool. going to main DAK in mp

Reinventing the wheel is overrated.

they should have made an expansion to 1 with soviets instead of making 2
CoH3 is going to have full mod support.
That alone makes it worth making a sequel.
they should have made an expansion to 1 with soviets instead of making 2
>he thinks the most important thing CoH2 did was introduce soviets.
>CoH3 is going to have full mod support.
Bullshit, I don't trust Relic.
>he thinks the most important thing CoH2 did was introduce soviets.
not unimportant changes, just bad changes
Truesight and a fresh start on multiplayer balance made the game a million times better. There's a reason why CoH2 is played way more than 1.
No they didn't
Reverse and prioritize vehicles alone make coh2 10000 times more playable than coh1
>CoH3 is going to have full mod support.
They said the same about CoH 2.
>full mod support
This better actually be true, allowing me to make an entirely new game with imported models, animations, sound, and art.

3d was a mistake
it has very little to do with 3d and a whole lot to do with relic somehow putting massive GPU drains everywhere in the game

>rifle pouches on SMG guy
>moronic fantasy suspension, again
Why? WHYYY?????!!!!!!
same reason why there is no Italian army on the Italian front.
Pls you must understand, making more than one model per squad is literally impossible, smol indie team pls understand and buy the 80$ pre-order pack

Nobody except you gives a shit about pouches you autist
I care, you moron. He's an autist but at least his IQ can heat water.
Poor baby won't play the game because of the wrong pouch 🙁
How will relic survive without the pouch audience? 🙁
touch grass autist
Can't tell if you're a shill or an arcadecuck, but either way go disembowel yourself and jump from a high place.
they made a Black person model to mix in with US squads, so they had the devtime for that.
did they actually add mixed race units?
yes. they showed it in an earlier video (couple months back)
that's just revisionism

Not the strategy games market tho, and this is a strategy games board
/vst/ is not a valid representative of the market
you're pirating these games and live in your autist fantasies anyway
This is THE representative of the market. Cope, seethe and dilate pvptroony.
Ok moron, even according to CoH 2 own achievements only 14% of players ever played multiplayer.
Where is your pvphomosexualry now?
You are simply too stupid to understand the game has been given away for free multiple times and thus that number is lower than it actually is thanks to people that get the game but never play it.

Unequivocally false. It's been proven that most strategy players prefer single player.
You're free to cope now, asiatic.
