Remeber when the old israelite gives you the poison gas fake cargo as a reward? I think about that. Also, there’s some vog on the east side of the mountain he lives on, in a crack near the giant cryptobite pilliar.

Is that an official picture? Pretty cool looking.
I loved Death Stranding but did feel that it could use a sequel to flesh certain things out, like this anon said that entire mechanic was so weirdly thing. DS has a few things like that, neat ideas that just don't go anywhere. Like areas where rocks fall down mountain slopes. Neat idea for a hazard, but happens in like two spots and is very easy the rocks. I hope they hone in and focus on traversing the terrain and just focus on that. Get rid of mules, and I'd be ok with BT's staying but only if they were redesigned mechanically.

Yeah that was super weird, you need for this one hole in the ground and that's it. Speaking of which i hope the second game has more story and more inside areas. More exploration, because all things considered the map felt pretty linear, there was a set path to take.

Have you played the Director's Cut? They added one inside area, I'm almost there in my new playthrough so I haven't done it yet but it sounds cool. Probably gonna have more of it in 2 if that's any indication.

What's the fricking point if there's a waypoint telling you where your objective is at all times? What's the fricking point if you don't have to pack food and shelter for multi-day treks? What's the fricking point when you can skip massive chunks of routes with ziplines or janky vehicles?

I genuinely get a better sense of discovery/danger going on multi day hiking trips. You can run into wildlife like bears and cougars, there's a genuine chance of getting lost, you need to navigate, set up camp, and carefully plan the weight of your pack.

If the game was going to give me the chance to explore some cool stuff, or find unknown destinations, abandoned cities, etc... then I'd be down. But you're just going from copy paste bunker interior to copy paste bunker interior, with no exploration, no navigation, NOTHING

          boring.

Neither the Mule encounters or BT zones are scripted though, what are you talking about? They're in static places on the map that you can make a decision to engage with or circumvent, but the behavior enemies have isn't scripted like random events in GTA5. They're just there

          Anonymous

And for the record, I don't think the scripted encounters in GTA are a problem, I think they give a lot of life to the world, I just think you're misusing terms you don't understand to shit on a game for no reason.

          Anonymous

What do you think scripted means? If they're always triggered at the exact same area of the map, it's scripted. There's absolutely nothing dynamic about it, and you'll never be caught off guard, which is my point.

If I'm going into grizzly country, I'm going to bring a shotgun with me. Chances are likely I won't need to use it, but I'm going to prepare for it nonetheless. If Death stranding didn't just have static encounter zones, but "territories" where you have a certain chance of encountering roaming BT's or getting ambushed by mules, then it'd actually be good and interesting. Simply having a static scripted "encounter zone" is boring.

            Anonymous

It means you are never ever surprised by an encounter because they always take place in the same area every single time.

            [...]
And? You can see everything on your map anyway. If I'm hiking and I see an alternate steeper trail up the mountain, it's interesting because I can't actually see what's ahead or know exactly where it leads. With an accurate realtime 3d map, who the frick cares? You know where the danger will be, and you know exactly the route around it.

Yeah that's a fair point, I think its mostly a result of not wanting to overwhelm players into bringing significant defensive options in a game that's tries to encourage a good balance of that, utility, and actual objective materials. That is something I hope to see improved in the sequel

For what its worth though I did enjoy the Mules in DS as a few times I misjudged the extent of their reconnaissance and how relentless they are when they spot you. It created some fun moments. Even if they aren't instilling dread or that much of a threat with careful planning, I think between doing raids for road materials and having to plan contingencies for getting caught on a shortcut were welcome features. The BTs, however I do agree are pretty weak outside of the actually-scripted story sequences.

With regards to my pedantry, I do think a better choice of word would be "static" or "predictable". Scripted implies the sort of encounter where specific behaviors or circumstances are shoehorned into gameplay that are clearly the direct intervention of the developer to have a setpiece, e.g. that scene where Sam is forced shelter from an enormous storm that never happens again to such a degree in gameplay. Since everything within the zone is still acting in accordance with a consistent logic I don't think the term "scripted" is fair.

              Anonymous

Eh, I'll concede that scripted might not be the best word for it. Regardless, it's just not dynamic or unpredictable enough to interest me. Stealth should be an option for players who don't bring defensive measures with them, it's a perfect fit for the inventory/utility management aspect of the game. And even if you do bring protection with you, stuff like multi day trips should stretch your resources and make things interesting, especially if the game didn't tell you exactly where your objective is and you're able to get lost.

I'm just imagining a version of the game where you can choose to either go through the mountains during a timefall storm (hazardous terrain) or through an abandoned city (high chance of being attacked by BT's or mules) or around both which is a lot more tedious but will keep you relatively safe

Death Stranding is pretty much the opposite of Rockstar games.
It takes a simple idea and gives you lots of ways to play around it, making it evolve all the way through the game.
Rockstar games however, allow you to do many things but everything is shallow, even down to the core gameplay.

My Points: (You won't address them, and will either simply stop replying in impotent rage, or will screech more about reddit, probably something involving israelites or trannies as well)

    >No genuine sense of discovery or need for visual navigation due to knowing where you and your objective are on the map at all times

    >no genuine sense of danger as encounters are generally scripted

    >the main method of progression is building/finding ways to avoid the main gameplay loop of terrain traversal

    >Trips are too short and too easy, there's never cases where you have to spend multiple days in the wilderness on deliveries (aside from a few scripted story instances)

    >nvm they just moved lol problem solved
    >I need materials from a mule camp to build roads
    >actually they packed up the whole camp and moved somewhere else good luck finding them lol

It would get old really fast. It's clearly designed around static enemy zones and knowing where things are so you can just focus on optimizing the routes. Hours long deliveries would get boring as frick too, it's not engaging to drag around the same package for hours. Deliveries should be 30 minutes max.

Yes, you're suggesting an infinitely more tedious way to escape BT areas. There's like, what, 3 giant BT areas in the entire game that would make the zipline placing and the material gathering actually worth it.
All of this could actually be remedied if they gave you more than 20 minutes in-game time with cleared BT areas after you defeat whatever mini-boss it throws at you when you're dragged under.

Listen, if you don't want to engage with the gameplay systems then don't play the game. It's not for you.

I am. I just told you I would like the BT areas to be wiped out longer, it's critiquing the gameplay you dumb fricking Kojimadrone. You would be here defending that little cutscene that would pop up every single time before a BT encounter if they never later gave you the option to turn it off.

I hope there are wild animals like there were in the opening cutscene, but not in the DS1 at all. And also I hope you can actually visit the cities and they're populated instead of just interacting with a hologram. I think they wanted real cities they just didn't have the budget.

      Anonymous

They showed the animals to explain the lack of animals. Timefall and BTs frick them up in the cutscene. Cities are said to be mostly empty too because everyone just stays inside, no one is having children and there are lots of suicides like the one at the beginning. There is a really cool concept art from inside the city, it looks like City 17 in HL2.

DS1 painted a very bleak and isolated world. DS2 will show the dangers of a reconnected world, so it would make sense to see how people live in the cities now. And maybe doing some animal rescue like MGSV.

I beat DS:DC twice and have the platinum.
I installed the PS4 version last night cause I thought it was would be fun to platinum it again, but it looks so much worse. I dont know how MGSV looks better but it does. Anyways I uninstalled and downloaded DS:DC to see if my Elder was still alive and he is.

Death Stranding was only controversial because people wrongfully had certain expectations for the gameplay; and Kojima also waited a long time before explaining the gameplay. Now that the first game has established the appeal of the series, people who just aren't interested won't have any room to complain and it's fans will be there day one. It will probably be able to win over a new audience who simply missed out on the original as well.

Of course you guys here on Ganker are going to complain, but it isn't going to be Kojima's whole fanbase coming off the MGS series like it was with DS1. Therefore the prevailing sentiment will just be the series' fans opinions instead of jilted MGS fans. See what I mean?

          Anonymous

Of course is see what you mean but the fact that DS has actual fans now will only worsen these threads because the bullshit will come from two sides and in any case that shitposting never has much to do with the game in question, it depends if anon is bored or angry about something. It's often automated nowadays as well so fans, not fans, played or not, like or notlike whatever the side, get out of that partisan mindset in which a poster would wordfight for what he believes in.

    >Start off with nothing and everything is confusing.
    >Go through Tutorial Island with BTs and Mules everywhere and you can't really deal with anything at all because all you have are grenades to deter or distract BTs.
    >Constantly wobbly since you have no skeleton and just a bike.
    >Get to the actual part of the game and unlock weapons and a proper skeleton.
    >Finally start exploring and slowly building roads.
    >Eventually start getting ways to shield some of your gear with the Chiral backpack thing or heal damage like with the sprays.
    >Live like a hobo traversing the jagged ground with bumps everywhere, occasionally bumming off of other player bridges, safehouses, and Timefall Shelters.
    >Finally get enough materials to make a couple bridges, trucks, and more so you can make the first half of the main island easier.
    >Start learning paths to snake through BT and Mule territory or outright ignore it, particularly from the Junk Dealer to South Knot for instance, or the road to Weather Station to the Timefall Farm.
    >Story takes you to Mountain Knot, but without roads it's a long, bumpy road.
    >Eventually make roads that take you to Mountain Knot without having to deal with Mules and BTs.
    >Then you find out you have to deal with snow and inclines all over the damn place.
    >Wade through snow-infested BT mountains.
    >Finally unlock ziplines.
    >Can now set up paths to go from Mountain Knot straight to Heartman, the robot lady, the fortuneteller, Sam Lake, or a couple other people.
    >Then finally set up paths taking you to the end of the game through all the pain in the ass craggy poison swamp areas near the Archeologist.

She might be playing the fast-ageing Fragile clone lineage, a genetic program designed to have Fragile(Lou) raise herself generation after generation in that bunker or controlled environment. It would explain Sam growing so old in the meantime.
It's all Lou in her baby and adult form so it makes sense for her to play by a different actress.
