Did I mess up by settling for the 3060 Ti?

Did I mess up by settling for the 3060 Ti? I wanted the 3070 but I could never find it for cheap enough except on ebay aka mining cards. I paid $409 for this 3060 Ti on EVGA B stock and its FTW 3 whatever that means. apparently its better than regular 3060 Tis?

It loses by 5-10 fps at 4k and wins by 5-10 at 1080p, but with memetracing it struggles to hit 60 fps even with the highest card. That means it's completely worthless to brand warriors.

Ray tracing is not for better looking games. It's for devs to cut corners so they can push the cost of lightning to the users instead. Do you think games prior to this gay tracing meme didn't have dynamic light sources? They did, they just took effort to make. Devs want to stop trying altogether, so they're now pushing ray tracing down our throats.

                >not for better looking games

all ray tracing does is make lighting and reflections behave properly and it's not like you'll be able to escape it
5 years from now ray tracing probably will cost nothing in performance and standard in every game

                Anonymous

The only thing ray tracing is useful for in the current year is reflections. Rendering the world twice is too expensive, and screen space reflections break if you look at them with the wrong angle.

Indeed, at this point it's basically a gimmick that NVIDIA is pushing hard because they need to give people a reason to upgrade. You fell for it. The only reason they even put RT accelerators on their GPUs is because it's useful for the professional market.

Because they play games on massive living room TVs, which require a higher resolution.
For computer monitors, higher resolution is just marketing memes. It might be nice to have a 27" or 32" monitor. There is a little improvement in image quality when going up to 1440p or 4k. But there are huge diminishing returns. The price you're paying for your PC is double and the visual improvement is very small.

i actually do. i do 3d modelling, and heavy texture work, and i putz around with daz3d to make some money on the side. technically, the 3070 will be fine for heavy texture work, but the 3080 would be killer for 3d rendering. i just don't know if i splurge on the 3080 now, or just grab the 3070, wait for the 4000 series to come back in stock, then do a full pc upgrade after that. i have an i7-7700k that kills any game requirements today, but if i upgrade i'm going amd, and will end up building another pc.

I got about 40fps on that Matrix tech demo with my 3060Ti at 1080p, and since I only have 1080p monitors I SHOULD be okay

I think games will be more optimized than that tech demo.

Oh I know, unlike many PCgays I'm totally fine with 30fps in a game as long as it's single player
            Also, DLSS is a thing
I'll probably keep this card until 2032 kek

30fps on PC feels horrible because the >60hz refresh rate makes it almost impossible to get steady frametimes and because you notice a lot more stutter with mouse movement.

If you somehow manage to get consistent frametimes at 30fps it's perfectly acceptable however.
