Unironically Activision strikes me as probably more difficult to work with than Disney. Disney may be draconian and stingy as frick but they won't completely turn away an opportunity for a buck. Activision seems actively petty to people they work with when they aren't banishing them to the CoD mines forever.

i have a theory that they had two acti reps, one for the gunner and on for the brawler, with the brawler one being crash and the gunner being a battlefield/overwatch rep, but since shit started to go down they decided to back away from the deal and shove in very poorly made costumes for the octoling and Judd, even in sm4sh the inkling costumes had outfits and appropriate guns, but in this one? octo just gets a stupid wig and judd gets isis decapitated.

remember there are two people in this deal, Nintendo and Acti, they had a nintendo direct two weeks ago with all the guns ready but the smash reveal was moved in a very small segment that could have been easily missed, by this point the actiblizz shit had been going for at least two months, Nintendo was forewarned about acti's bullshit and backed out, because they clearly had everything ready to show by the direct but they needed time to do something to replace the acti collab and save themselves from the trashfire.

A Mii hat would have been too little for someone as Crash and a full Mii costume would have either looked weird or just wouldn't (the outfit from the commercials is too big for a Mii).
