I like Astarion's character, he's a pompous, arrogant prick, the problem with him though is his default class sucks ass in combat, he's probably the shittiest character gameplay wise that you can recruit.
I'm only 20 hours in and Astarion seems fine. Having him sneak off and land crits on people far away is fun.

Rogues are just fiddly, you have to keep hiding like a dipshit, and you never get extra attack. Well, it's possible to hoard haste potions in act 1, then ingredients become rare as shit.
