Stellaris does use multiple cores, dunno why people think it doesn't. It's easy to check.

Whether or not it uses them efficiently is another matter (probabaly not).

Paradox games are technically multi-threaded in the sense that they use more than one core, often with each core having a dedicated task such as handling renderer updates or loading. Much like Unreal, Unity, Godot, etc.

But in practice they're not multi-threaded in the "distribute computation workload more or less evenly across all available cores" sense.

Look, face the facts, Paradox stumbled onto an amazing discovery: homosexuals like shit. Ever since that astonishing revelation they have been catering to the homosexuals. You see homosexuals are more profitable, and of course Paradox seeks profits. Ask yourself, as a Paradox shareholder which would you choose as a vacation? Fricking hot exotic babes on a tropical beach at a five star luxury Hotel while sipping daiquiris, or spending a week in Detroit slumming it in some dingy motel, maybe having enough cash to send a postcard to your folks back home? Selling to homosexuals gets you the former, selling to grognards gets you the latter.

The limitations on Leaders caused by the new DLC is garbage, but worse is the shill defense force that try to play down all its problems and call it the best change paradox ever made to the game.

As if not being able to hire a reasonable amount of officers to your galactic civilization to hold even a fraction of the available roles is a "challenging limitation that improves the game".

Also now general aren't just worthless but an active detriment to have employed.

the best change was abandoning tiles. pops have their issues, performance being among the biggest, but they ultimately made it a real videogame and not just Catan in space. Although they aren't as different as people say.

        Anonymous

Abandoning tiles made the game almost unplayable. With tiles, the biggest planets had 25 pops max, while now the smallest ones can have 50. It also inflated the game time as you need to wait for more pops to grow for your advanced buildings (FFS advanced factories employ less workers, not more). With tiles, I could play an 1400/star galaxy, now with pops, I am stuck with the smallest ones. And stop implying that Catan is bad.

Unfortunately theres still a nasty neck seam on most of the men, I need to fix that
Also not all the clothing fits properly so sometimes booba and shoulders stick out a bit

Yeah, turns out it was a lot of work, took a month and it still needs a lot of polish, but I guess thats what happens when you split earth into 14 phenotypes and make like 250 sets of clothing to cover all stellaris jobs

Dunno, but stellaris is pretty easy to edit without tools. Just extraxt the save file with 7zip, open the bigger resultant file in notepad and change the "ironman" flag to yes iirc

Isn't it easier to use steam achievement manager?

      Anonymous

I wonder if they will change this eventually
With CK3, the latest update changed achievements to be unlocked even with ironman off and with mods enabled
Obviously this makes it trivial to cheat (via a mod) but for most people I imagine this will just mean they get to play normally and unlock them anyway
Hopefully they do the same for Stellaris as well, I cba downloading anything to change checksums just for cheevos

      Anonymous

I use it. It's safe to use and it works.
You still need to play on Ironman to get Achievements, but with it you can use any kind of mods you want.

Thank you. I went and looked when I had time to play today. Undiverse Humanities has a version which reintroduces the original human portraits and gives you options to use only one race, or to have leaders of one race or sex but have diverse pops, etc. It also works with the mods that add more clothing options for humans, which is nice.

I don't mind the new human portraits, per se, but they just didn't fit what I was going for this run.

Strong gives Militarist ethics attraction but Resilent doesn't give Pacifist attraction, and I think it should. Resilent makes it so defensive armies are 50% stronger whereas Strong makes it so all armies are 20% stronger, but a species with Resilent would historically basically never fight offensive wars because they'd literally be 5 times as likely to win than their same species's offensive force, or 2.5 times more likely to win than a species with Strong. Therefore, Resilent should give 2.5 times as much Pacifist attraction than Strong gives Militarist.

I hate the "Planet of X" where entire planets have nothing but one industry to minmax some bonus. It's silly, considering the massive fleets needed to haul food, minerals or even batteries because there's not a single farm, mine or energy production building on the entire planet. There should be some kind of logistical downside to a planet 100% dedicated to a single specialization.

And I like setting up logistical chains in games. Stellaris has none of that. You can sell 100,000 units of ore to the galactic market even if there's some fanatical purifier between you and the rest of civilization.

Entire planets dedicated to one single industry is a core sci-fi trope though, and simulating those things is practically the whole point of Stellaris.

    >now you can capture planets with bombardment alone
    >armies are completely worthless now

what did they mean by this?

Bombardment surrender is uselss. Except for rocking up on new colonies with end game stacks it takes a year to years of bombardment to get a surrender from most worlds. It does work I guess and if your fleet is really far away from an army for some reason it might be worth doing but personally I would never rely on bombardment surrender when it's so easy to just build armies and keep them up with your fleets.

I'm about 75 years into a playthrough with pic related mod for the first time, and this is quite possibly the most enjoyable game I've had to date so far. Galactic council still hasn't formed, I've barely met other empires, there's still so much space to explore and grab. Anyone else here play with this mod? It's changed the game for me completely and now I can't imagine playing without it

That mod looks just my style. Not sure if you already have it, but check out also 'Slower First Contact'. Doubles the rolls (and therefore the time) it takes to establish with alien empires, so you'll spend more time in that very-early stage of the game.

feel like the AI would just profit from that and first contact is rarely something happens because they just get revealed to you once you encroach upon their territory.

I really enjoy playing like this too, I even put pop growth to really slow, habitable worlds to very low, lower tech speed and delay the mid+late game. Makes it feel much more Grand a game.
I even then wrote a live AAR with all the spare time I had.

This game didn't need it. Now if only they have made Imperator Rome more like CK2...

What are some mods that expand internal politics and rebellions? I want to make an empty galaxy with no other aliens where I can just expand, and then collapse into a bunch of warring states.

Happened to boot up Stellaris after all this time to check it out, why have human portraits become worse?

Why has Aquatic become more expensive? Alot of my old Civs are broken because of it.

someone fricked up the old portraits so they made new ones that aren't as ugly

But the new ones are worse.

Except that's fricking wrong, the new ones are inferior to the classic ones especially when it comes to chicks hair.

Anyone else realized how strong the grey eminence leader trait is? Doesn't matter eaely game of course but by late game empire size starts to hit hard and you can stack several grey eminences to drasticlly reduce empire size. I got 3 by the end of my last playthrough which, at base, decreased my empire size by 60% before any other modifiers which supercharged my research production. Idk if this is the best trait but it seems like it to me.

Literally everyone realized this. You can reduce empire size to 0% with the right setup which is hilariously broken.

Did they add paragons for the legacy human portraits or just the nu-ones

      Just the new ones.

IMO, the new ones just noticeably better than the legacy ones, it's just that difference between phenotypes between are less noticeable in the new ones, but mods fix that.
The real issue is that all the new Humanoid portraits should also have an overhaul to fit with the new portraits, but don't.

I hate how the dlc made leaders these super special OC characters intead of just regular leaders. Like why can this galaxy spanning empire only support like 12 guys without exploding?? It's just dumb. I actually do like most of the new leader shit but capping them by this new special leader cap stat that's totally independent from the rest of the game except from a few traditions is stupid. Now that I'm thinking about it the whole game is infested with these special little systems that don't interact with any other part of the game, like the whole espionage shit is entirely depended on you picking the tradition tree or else it's a massive waste of resources. It's just bad design, they really need to go back through and standardize everything or something back to the base resources, like they've already made a big deal of making unity upkeep for all these "empire" systems and yet instead they insist on just adding weird side systems instead of using the standardized stuff they already have.

      >It's just bad design
It's bad design if the goal is making a good game, but it's good design for making a DLC platform

If you don't have the DLC you don't actually get the choice system, lol.

I think Paradox once held a Games Developer Conference presentation where they explained their business model to be making a shallow core game that can infinitely be expanded with shallow DLC mechanisms, and that for this model to work the mechanisms must stay shallow and self-contained.
So there won't be much interaction between all these little minigame mechanisms and that's by design.

im enjoying galactic paragons, the new origin was really funny
    >my luminar declares himself emperor
    >time passes, his son dies of natural causes
    >goes fricking paranoid and thinks he was assassinated, starts kill advisors and generals left and right
    >gets deposed by an egalitarian movement cuz i didnt notice you needed to pass an agenda to avert it kek

There needs to be some kind of limit to habitat building, in mid-late game it becomes fricking ridiculous.

Habitats don't paint more space though. If anything they slow down space painting due to costing Influence, just like outposts.
Habitats just slow down your game.

The AI spams them relentlessly, and it becomes an unfun slog to conquer every single one in a system before moving to the next system (They'll build 5-6 in every system if possible), they also tank performance.
Then there's the fact that you can only blow up Habitats with Colossi.

You are aware that of course, that setting your army on aggressive makes them conquer every single planet in the system? Also complaining about growth in a 4x game is like complaining about dev in eu4 slowing your conquest down, because you have to pay more score for more developed provinces. Also also, ringworlds can also be only blown up by a colossus I don't see you complaining about that.

the AI spams the ever living shit out of them and my fricking pc can run 50 instances of stable diffusion but dies the moment it reaches year 2450
that and mercenary enclaves, the shitty galactic community thing gives EVERY faction +1 enclave capacity
that said, make sure to put your army transports to aggressive stance so they auto siege
which brings up the problem of the AI building 500 fortresses in randomly worlds for no fricking reason or having assault armies landed to defend somehow

If you manage to get negative empire size by picking democratic, parliamentarian, academic privileges, and then pick Tradition Aptitude > the Champions of the Empire size (which reduces the empire size by leader lvl) and spam enough leaders and stuff, you get free unity when supporting a democratic leader. Negative minus negative is infinite positive unity.

I find it hard to care about stellaris updates.
Like there's an initial burst of interest, but ultimately, the game is gonna lag and be unplayable in the way I want to play it.
If they can't fix pops, it doesn't matter.
Pop growth slowing down because there are more pops in the empire, was a lazy fix because they didn't know how to fix the late game lag.
At the start we had no habitats, and tiles with max 25 pops on a planet, and the infrastructure for the game was based around that.
Doesn't work when we have hundreds of pops on planets, and loads of habitats with dussins of pops.
There needs to be a dramatic pop change again, that can sustain growth, without destroying the late game, but that's probably gonna be for Stellaris 2, if they ever resolve it.
