Nah. This game was lucky to have Combichrist do OST. And base combat wasn’t that bad. What made it worse was the back and forth between the devs and fans. Emo gay(just a bum) vs gay cowboy. The gay cow boy and his unga bunga nephew won. I wish the game was more like mission 1 and 13.
Honestly, if they simply decided to name the game ANYTHING ELSE, and do the same with the characters, it would have been loved and be a part of many top 3's of best hack n' slash of it's generation. The story some say it wasn't on purpose doesn't really take itself seriously, and the gameplay althought more simplified, is also more entertaining on a superficial level, for those that just want to finish it and move on
The problem is that if you put "Devil May Cry" on the cover, if obviously gets compared to the original games, and attract the fans of said original games expecting a similar product, and that is sure to bring harsh criticism.
The devs were fricking buttholes to the fanbase, so I guess it was deserved. It's failure pushed for change inside Capcom, and they stopped outsourcing games so much, so all in all, the outcome was positive. If the game had gone well, we surely wouldn't have DMCV

Funny thing is that even the lead combat designer was forced to eventually eat shit and admit that Ninja Theory had poorly designed certain things (ie the entire style system) and the Definitive Edition had to rework an untold number of gameplay mechanics.
So even the wienery devs had to eventually come to terms with the garbage they originally released.
