That's specifically the golden age of arcade games and that is generally considered to have started in 1980 with Pac-Man, Centipede, Missile Command, etc. Sure there were Space Invaders, Asteroids, and Galaxian released before that, but I guess the momentum wasn't quite there yet.

Stop affiliating me with fricking millenials I don't want to have nothing to do with them, it's the most onions generation, when I'm looking at twitter and other bullshit I'm really fricking proud to be a zoomer

How the frick are people born in 1981 classified as millenials? You're 100% a boomer if you're older than 40 years old, you basically grew up without the internet, there was a tremendous difference between growing up in the 90s and 2000's.

If you don't remember 9/11 you're a zoomer, simple as that.

Also easy way to tell, if you grew up without internet or when it was barely a thing, you're a boomer. If you grew up with the early internet (MySpace, phpBB, Napster, early YT) you're a millenial. If you grew up with the modern internet (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Tumblr) you're a zoomer.

I know that there are certain points on the timeline where you can't establish a definite border, but there's no point to make completely new generation names for small groups of people.

If you were born in late 90s you'll have more in common with zoomers than millenials.

I was born in 2001 and I remember early youtube, but these are some really foggy memories (and I used youtube a lot), none of my friends who are even a couple of years older than me used MySpace.

For the longest time they weren't. Census data used to classify 1982 - 2000 as millennials since it was a period of increased child births that mirrored the baby boom of 1946 - 1964 (both 18 years in length). Then they started arbitrarily moving around the cutoff dates for Zoomers, Millennials, and even Gen X for what I suspect were for political and marketing purposes (MUH YOOF) and it's been a confusing clusterfrick ever since.

I mean, you Black folk might have outcasts but definitely no geeks now that the cool kids own those spaces. Geek used to be something that other people branded you with, almost a mark of shame, now is paraded by dudebros and prostitutes.

                >but surely they have their own version of the geek?
Like I said, it might be impossible to explain to a zoomer. Part of being a geek meant that there was a level of sacrifice on your part, whether it being social, financial, time etc to commit to your passion unlike now where everything is available on tap and the only thing that determines whether your opinion is valuable is how much clout you have independent of whatever you're talking about.

                >Not having a doofus to rag on means they consider everyone equal.
I wouldn't know what happened/happens to the outcasts of your generation. (i have a suspicion of what they might be though.)

Maybe zoomers have fun getting run over by cars at mumble rap events, I don't know. I doubt they care about gen 1 pokemon in 1998 with all gaming info delivered by magazines and word of mouth. I did not use the internet until about 2001. Is that cooler to me? Yes, but I also don't give a single frick about zoomer hobbies so they probably don't feel like they "missed out" on anything.

In 30 years you'll see posts
    >Do you feel bad for xoomers for missing out on the golden age of mumble rap?
Absolutely not a single xoomer will feel like they missed out. A lot of zoomers do not care that they didn't play pokemon gen 1 at launch with no internet.

I don't give a shit about most NES games and stuff released before I was 5 years old. SNES and later is more my territory. I like the stuff I grew up with. There are so many good games released every year you have to have a specific desire to play technologically inferior games with dated design.

The only thing that matters is if your missed out on the transition to 3D. If you grew up playing exclusively 2D games because that's all there was and suddenly you had N64 and PSX, that shit was mindblowing. Kids who grew up on a mix of 2D and 3D games will never understand. It was like being there for the invention of the motion picture. This kind of progress only happens once every hundred years.

No. I don't envy them because it's depressing if you grew up in the wonderful 80s and 90s when technology and games were rapidly improving. It's like video games no longer have the ability to give me joy at all unless I go back and replay the original Doom or Doom II. That and some old Mario games are better than anything coming out lately.

I wonder when, or if, there will ever be a big movement in our lifetime that justifies the use of medications or drugs to manage mental health later this century. Anyone who has done some research and understands the human brain and development and social dynamic and how fricked up a person is growing up in extreme social situations, is not surprised by the rampant mental health problems in 2023. Our generation grew up in a blender compared to thousands of years of human experience.

I'm specifically talking about pleasure. We are the first generation to grow up going through puberty right when the internet and gaming and rewards were being easier to access than ever before. The entire reward center of our brain got so fricked up compared to any other generation. Those after us grew up with a little more "limited screen time" and lessons learned from our generation 10 years before them.

It's not just cooming, but like you said, games in general. We were getting fed like kings and when the river turned in to a drip or the river stopped changing flavors, we are now bored and depressed. However, this can be managed with therapy and doing work on figuring out why we are so fricked up. I just think it's wild how common it is for people to take meds to manage depression and motivation. Our world is completely different than it was 100 years ago. I think everyone alive right now is thrown in to a blender compared to 100 years ago, but those of us who grew up without the internet, but did get it when we were around age 10, got EXTRA fricked reward and pleasure centers of our brain. We grew up developing and laying neural pathways without youtube, and then got it right when our brains were developing the most as teens.

NTA, but honestly you make a good point. how will society cope and evolve to a sexless, isolated (yet interconnected) generation of mentally stunted adults? autism is on the rise, our food is filled with microplastics, the earth is getting warmer, and people have no fricking idea what's going on. you suggested medication, but that would only make things worse. our bodies were never made to handle all these substances. with how things are going, i can only assume we're headed towards some kind of dystopia. that is, unless WW3 shakes things up. we have an entire generation of able bodied young adults (myself included) without a purpose, or end goal in life. we need some kind of conflict to harden us again.

things can only end in some kind of disaster

This is pretty moronic, games have nothing to do with mental health. I played fighting games and sports games with friends. The key is played with friends, not what. I played ff7 the same year I read lord of the rings and that was written a century ago. I read less known authors like Marion zimmery Bradley and played less known games like langrisser and y's and looked up Japanese-only games with envy. If something all that cool stuff is why I'm not depressed. What's depressing is the state of the world now because anything exciting is a marketing scam, not genuine. Companies learned to co-op youthful excitement into digital slavery, not genuinely good or innovative products. It's why zoomers read Harry Potter. It's actually good even though it was marketed. But they have no way to see that 99% of good stuff is not marketed anymore, if it's even made. It's poorly remastered, bundled, resold out of context and addictive trash is what's marketed instead.

Historically, Latin America has had more power outages than the US. This is largely a product of them being somewhat dimmer than Europeans or Asians, which kicks you in the ass when dealing with very large, complex systems like power grids. You're not going to have the equivalent of Silicon Valley or Shenzhen in South America.

It's no surprise that, as the US, has grown more Latin American basic competency at things like keeping the power in has decreased, and will probably converge with Latin American rates over time.

That's what happens to Japan and Korea, and they nonetheless leapt past Latin America. Latin America smaller smart fraction just reduces the ceiling, and increase the level of ambient dysfunction. Latin America is better than, for example, Africa; but they do have a lower ceiling on development because they have lesser biological capital. As we see when Latin Americans move en masse to the US, they bring with them Latin American levels of things being dirtier, more inefficient, less functional and so on. Not to the extent of Africans, who can't even keep the water clean in Jackson or Flint. In swathes of the South, Latin Americans are an outright improvement to the biological capital.

Ultimately, we have to be kind to Zoomers. The white zoomers are the products of at least 50 years of dysgenic selection; and their swarthier cohort companions are also less intelligent on average. Expecting them to have the technological mastery of the Apollo program engineers, or just conceptualizing a file system is overly ambitious relative to their aggregate capabilities.

frick you all, i'm making a blog post. i'm tired of living behind several layers of irony. so, for once, i'll be sincere.

i look up to you oldgays. as much as you all love to bash others to hide your insecurities and whatnot, you're still my elders, and have a plethora of wisdom that i do not have. you've experienced things that i'll never (ever) feel, learned things that i haven't yet had the chance to learn, shit on me for being a clueless, moronic zoomer. all that, and yet i still admire you all because i think you're much wiser than me.

i'm afraid of the future. i dont know what it holds for me. i dont know if i'll die in the ditches of a country thousands of kilometres away, who speak a language virtually alien to my own... or if i'll die at age 80, surrounded by people who love me, after living a long, fruitful life. but what i can do right now, is learn from you, the mistakes you've made so i can't make them myself. i look now at the failures of millenials, how they can't figure out how life works, despite being virtually twice my age. how they revel in a kind of degeneracy that makes me want to puke, despite being guilty myself of indulging in some of it. how they bent culture itself to fufill some kind of deranged vision of a perfect world, that still tries to pull itself apart, in spite of their attempts to bring them together against their will. i watch their failures in horror, and am forced to participate in a society that spits on me for not wanting to return to something more sensible. and soon i, and others like me, will be at the helms of this society, and i dont know how to fix this mess they made.

i look to many of you, to try and make sense of all this madness, to find some comfort like "here's what you have to do to make it all okay", and yet i am empty handed. i want guidance from you, but you mock me for my ignorance. so please, for the love of god, help me, before its too late, and find ourselves neutered like dogs by people who hate us.

You don't need to be a master at everything, but just keep learning the little things, internalize those neat tricks and nuggets of knowledge, appreciate older things, realize that a lot of people doing fricked up stuff to themselves are doing so out of fear of the unknown and the future rather than being sick degenerates (though some are).

You might even be part of the first "immortal" generation considering all the advances we've made in the last 30 years. Frick.

You haven't missed too much in life, just don't let yourself stagnate or settle into a life you don't enjoy...unless you're getting paid a frickton by stupid investors in some startup, kek

The thoughts of a middle/upper middle class degenerate living in a gated community.

Oh yeah it's not perfect, but I lost a grandma to kidney cancer 30 years ago and my mom is alive and thriving after the same cancer 1 year ago. No longer have to wait weeks/months for a movie/show to rerun, packages get delivered in days instead of weeks/months, and a bunch of other shit.

Property values and inflation will get better eventually, hopefully sooner than later because those are massive problems brewing.

      A few things.
1.) Nobody has anything figured out. Everybody just wings it. Always, all the time. The 80 year old man who can barely walk still feels like a clueless 25 year old in his head.
2.) The only way to fix things at this point is violent revolution, but it'll never happen. Everyone is too obsessed with their phones and generations have been beaten over the head with "violence is bad".
3.) You'll probably live a boring and uneventful life while you wait around for the fireworks to start. Nothing ever happens.
4.) The single best thing you can do is disconnect and be as free from social media as possible. It amplifies your worries, fills your head with info you don't need to know, and promotes degeneracy. Unplug. Or end up like me.

Damn, actually got me for once.
You're right, and games don't matter. What matters is that no generation knows how to go forward from here, as so much is unprecedented. So it will go wherever we carry it. And sometimes things that are "tolerant" or "choices" need to be fought against. Like banning gacha games or troony propaganda to kids. You might say "they're not so bad", but that's the point. They might not be the core problem, but at some point someone has to fight against grey areas, or everything turns grey, and then turns black, with no way back into the light. By fighting against grey areas we reveal where the bad and the good is. That's my personal advice. "Tolerance" and "equality" have robbed us of centuries and millenia of reason earned by our ancestors to goad us into allowing shit to creep into society that they knew by experience and instinct was deadly and would destroy us. That's why I cheer whenever i see a zoomer rejecting manipulation. But you have to be brave and not let anyone tell you that you're mean or bad. Or let women have power over you like so many millennials allowed. It's then obvious what to do, fight simps, refuse bawds, reject PC and stay honest all the fricking time with the shit you see and think. The moment you do like us millennials and try to "look good", you will be fricked and lose yourself, becoming second class to slaves, cucks, liars and scammers.

I'm 19 and my first games were DMC4, Prototype, Assassin's Creed 2, Lost Planet 2, etc. on the PS3,
Smash Bros Brawl, Wii Sports, Mario Kart Wii, etc.,
and PSP games like the port for Tekken 5.

Are you guys actually fricking moronic?

No, just an anecdotal retort to moronic claims written by fat 30+ year old hands.

              >soul
It is genuinely impossible for your generation not to regurgitate or run things into the ground. I'm surprised a zoomer homosexual like you didn't put a v into soul.

              >PSP, PS3 era had soul
Didn't deny that but you literally listed subpar sequels....and wii party games.

Wrong. They're missing out on seeing the industry evolve and growing up alongside it, which fosters an appreciation for where we've been, where we're going, and where we are. Zoomers are bred to constantly seek instant gratification and can't play appreciate anything older than them.
I grew up in the 80's but still love 50's, 60's, 70's music, movies, books. Zoomers are firmly rooted in the here and now, with no respect or appreciation for what came before.

I guess you could put it in that sense. I was thinking more of the fact that zoomer Black folk have no sense of a future.

Not a zoomer. Just a confused GenX/Millenial that wants these damned kids off my lawn.

Well, they don't have geeks or nerds in their generation. I mean, IIRC a graded Gen 1 charizard card is hanging round the neck of one of the Paul brothers. Something that would've been impossible for millennials.

Everyone born after you can play almost anything you have played. All they're missing out on is the commercialized culture of whatever the current thing is, that's all they're really "missing out on".

Zoomer here. The only thing we missed out on is renting video games because your family was too poor to actually own them.

    zoomer here, I have a ps4, 360, new 3ds, phone, and a shitty laptop.
what older consoles/games should I emulate?

      Anonymous

      Mario 1+2+3+World
      Zelda 1+2+3 (maybe skip 2)
      Kirby's Adventure, Kirby Superstar
Sonic the Hedgehog 1+2+3+CD (I believe Sonic Origins is the best way to play them, native wide-screen support and knuckles in sonic 1)
Mario 64, Zelda 64 and Majoras Mask, Starfox 64

The 2d stuff is all somewhat shorter, but basically defined the genres.

Until you morons actually set what a zoomer is, I'm just going to assume zoomer means anyone under the age of 2 since you fat homosexuals keep pushing it farther and farther.
    >"Hurr durr, zoomers missed out on the golden age of Xbox series x 2! They didn't play games until the PS7 Nero Z!"

No one's pushed anything zoomer. Zoomers are '96 onwards. Proto-zoomers are post-'92.
