Never gonna make it. It's probably the easiest start just because of the insane amounts of trick gold you can make without ever exposing yourself. Yeah you can replace it with a tablet once you get one, but not needing to backtrack is better than needing to.

Yup, the altar floating over the top of the mountain. There's an orb up there for +25 max health and a tablet. You can sell tablets by placing them on the altar so I usually go down and get the tablet from the lava lake, then go up to the altar and sell both the lava lake tablet and the tablet you find up there.
In addition to an explosive spell, you need a flask of liquid to spray yourself with to get extra jetpack height.

Once i have tried to visit The Big Alchemist to the left of advanced mines and magically dark ponds (had firestone on me to steam out the water), but barely could deal with a single caster and only because i was behind the wall with a small opening for my projectiles.

I rush to the first holy mountain, making sure I don't kill anything so I get a pacifist chest, and see if there's any good perk in there (immunity, seeing eye, or tinker only) and if there isn't I intentionally die in the coal pits. There is no point continuing if you don't get a good perk immediately

Pacifist chests are worthless. They'd be breddy gud if the negative results like bombs were removed from the pool, but unfortunately they're not. Getting a measly 200 gold in the Mines for a reroll and walking out is an infinitely better use of your time.

Magic Missile is my preferred starting secondary because it can clear terrain but is also consistently good at taking out early big targets. Plus if you're lucky and get unlimited spells it's a great spell to pump modifiers onto early on. My go-to early wands are triplecasted triplicate bolts with freezing and homing and a damage boosted magic missile with as low of a recharge time/cast delay as I can

Here's a tip. Wands with terrible refresh rate, but lots of slots can be used effectively by loading them with 1 more spell that you don't cast.
If you switch wands before all the spells are cast, and switch back you instantly reload and can fire from the start again.
Generally you can find something better than this, but this can help you salvage some otherwise truly screwed runs.

Help, I'm not creative. I have the unlimited spells perk but I'm still stuck on ping-pong path luminous drill wand with damage plus and crit plus on it. How do I make a wand that shoots someone that just goes and kills things instantly?

Get a big damage spell like meteor or giga magic missile on a good capacity wand with high mana regen, stack a shit ton of modifiers like damage up, crit up, homing, freeze and shock, etc. on it, lower the cast delay and recharge time on it as much you can. That'll be your point click and delete wand. Another combo I like is homing giga death cross with homing freezing field casted alongside it

My favorite type of build is using the Note spells from inside the tree..
Put a few of them inside a trigger/timer, increase lifetime with stuff like increased lifetime and spiral/ping-pong path, and pretty much any type of homing. Then just pile damage on as you find stuff... 0 mana cost modifiers like horizontal path and linear arc are big for this early on. This type of build scales incredibly well as you just find more and more applicable modifiers. One somewhat rare and otherwise less used modifier I like for this is phasing arc so the notes can make it through terrain easily, projectile area teleport is nice, damage field is huge.

I think there's too many perks that aren't very good unless combined with other perks. Like invisibility is almost useless unless you have stainless armor. The resistance perks still leave you open to aspects of damage that you'd think would be blocked, for instance explosions still damage you with explosive resistance because the explosions always cause fires, or some electric attacks AFAIK have an explosive component to them that still damages you through electric immunity.

The biggest problem for me is that you really need to get good perks/spells to actually have a decent run where you go to parallel worlds, ng+, etc. there is massive imbalance, add mana being basically the best spell and runs where you have add mana are completely different from runs where you don’t. Same with tinker with wand everywhere, just such a better perks than everything else in the game and completely changes the game. There are others too, half the perks are useless and 80% of the spells are useless

Yeah. I don't even really get the idea behind making so much esoteric content outside of the standard game when once you can take on one secret boss, it seems like you can destroy them all. I hope they make different games with their sandbox tech. They can't balance this one because by design it's to be broken.

Pollen if your wand can shit them out fast enough. You can dig with them (tho there are much better options for that), kill frickers from around corners and most importantly they block projectiles. My first win was with a pollen spewing machinegun as my main wand

damage modifiers are really powerful in general. be sure to read the spell descriptions, because some things actually add damage when you wouldnt expect them to

Spitter/Spark Bolt with Trigger (timer can work too depending on payload etc) + Mulitcasts (double spell, triple scatter, etc) + pretty much any spells you have mana to cast together. My first handful of wins were basically just this type of simple trigger with big payload style wand. Triplicate Bolts are awesome putting in the payload, spark bolts give 5% crit chance per, and when you put modifiers in the payload they stack like crazy. Modifiers like Horizontal Path and Linear Arc ordinarily may seem bad because they ruin the usability of spells.. but inside a trigger like this they're free damage because the payload doesn't need to travel to hit the enemy.

I can easily see how people would look over them, trying to actually use them is moronic so you kinda just mentally filter them when you see them. They're really good when you can use them. Spiral Arc and Orbiting Arc are double good because they add damage AND lifetime for free. These all also come with a small amount of cast delay reduction.
Like anon said above it's always good looking closely at spell modifier tooltips because some of them are more useful for what is basically a sub-effect rather than the seeming main purpose of the spell.

Speaking of lifetimes, if you do this, go and grab a few note spells from the tree. They have built in piercing.
With the lifetime + damage from the arcs, they are disgustingly good in a payload.

          >Any other good spells that I might be sleeping on?
An unconventional one but my absolute favorite will always be mist of spirits. While it doesn't do any damage by itself, you can pair it with so many other things and be really damn good. Just have a way to launch it away from you, and home towards enemies, and from you have lots of options what to pair it with. Ones I like are the shit that circles around you (fireballs, laser beams, etc) or the thing which deals damage when its in a certain radius, great for mists since they don't despawn when coming in contact with enemies. Reason for mist of spirits specifically is that other mists usually slow you down/block certain spells like the lasers, while mist of spirits only makes you a bit tipsy (a benefit) doesn't slow your movement at all, and from what I've seen it never blocks any spell.
Alternatives that do similar things are death cross (make sure you're explosive proof) or delayed spellcast (the spell itself, not what it'll spawn after it, works well if you extend the timer on it and have it speed up as well) But I always saw that mist of spirits spawns the most frequent and is easiest to get working. I love it so much

Does Noita have Magicka-vibes where you mix elements together to cast "cool" (admittedly lots of balls + element but there's some variety) spells? Or is it just a roguelike/te with guns cosplaying as wands and you might hit an OP build where things just explode into screen-wide particles endgame?

      yes absolutely
it's not really possible to pick up a wand that's powerful enough to clear screens with particles like that, it would be a pretty complicated wand. Most of the time when you pick up a really good wand it'll just kill you

I learned the hard way how pants-shitting these spells can be if you aren't careful with them. I was so close to winning this pacifist run, but a stray one managed to shoot by me. They're a lot more chaotic around the center of the shot, since I was trying to get the most bang for my buck with my limited casts.

  45. 2 months ago
    Anonymous

Wait, can you kill enemies with the tablet and still get the pacifist chest, or does that count as a kill?

Its kinda buggy where sometimes it'll count as a kill.

it counts as an accidental kill, so pacifist safe

For all you lil' minnas that are struggling to power up, do this
    >get the early hearts, including the one above the starting mountain and stealing squidward's if you get invisibilium
    >try and dip into the fungus zone for a decent wand
    >if you get homing plasma, kill squidward for a good wand
    >if you get that or ambrosia, go frick up pyramid boss for spells + a good wand + 2 hearts
    >the copy spells pyramid boss drops only copies spells that come after it in a casting block
    >that means if you have triple spell -> 2 triple bolts -> copy random thrice -> damage plus, in that order, it copies the damage plus 3 times every time
    >copy three random can also be put in front of copy thrice, which will cast the last spell/modifier in the wand 8 times
    >also, nolla + return inside a trigger can be used as a bootleg tele bolt
    >try to carry a bottle of teleportanium to hisii base to access the hourglass room. it has a random assortment of spells, which includes the highest tiers
After that, you can go for dragon kills, greek kills, triangle kills, and whatever else you want to do. Getting access to teleports and a healing bolt are the door to starting a god run. The quintessential ultrakill build is to put homing piercing on a trigger spell, but keep in mind that a swapper mage could instagib you if you're going too crazy with it. Machine guns are safer but less effective on some enemies like the alchemist, but you can bully him with explosive detonator if you get it. Not only does it delete his attack, but it also explodes his shield for some reason

A tier. I did the entire sun quest with lukki legs. Stacking full legs and speed modifiers makes your normal run speed fast enough to cross the world in about 30 seconds, and it's infinite flying energy inside the normal route for all intents and purposes. There are so many walls and ledges that the control it offers you is just grrat

How long does it take for Noita to click? I gave it a go and wasn't really gelling with it. I imagine part of the fun is learning how everything works and I don't want to be spoonfed, but is it something that takes time to get into or did it just work for everyone else?

        Anonymous

I don't think it's reasonable to try to work everything out for yourself.
Use the wiki, use the stuff other people tell you, you'll still die a bunch, it'll still feel like you earned it when you eventually win.

        Anonymous

When i realised the actual scope of the game is when it clicked big time for me.
Also realising just how free you actually are to do whatever the frick you feel like doing really scratched my itch for simulation-based video games as opposed to curated narrative corridors.
That being said, i feel like this is one of those games where getting gud is imperative to your enjoyment. The initial struggle was no fun but slowly getting better and growing your knowledge is extremely rewarding for that reason.
Finally, this game truly is about knowledge, in almost all aspects. Knowing more about the game and its secrets, both lore-wise and mechanically IS the point of the game and ultimately where it becomes truly fun to play.

I recommend avoiding any wiki material until you beat the main path of the game and fight the final boss (commonly known as the tutorial). Everything along that path is meant to teach you how the game works. Once you've reached that milestone, feel free to take a gander at how much larger the world is and learn some of the tricks to get the most bang for your buck out of what you are given on any run.
