Does anyone else feel PS1 games aged badly in comparison to previous generations?
They technology was there to make god tier 2D games but instead we got really bad/mediocre 3D games. I understand it's what people wanted at the time, but if you look back at say the SNES all the games still play great by today's standards and for the most part still look beautiful. The PS1 on the other hand, most games play like dog shit and look equally as bad since the technology was still not quite there for full 3D. At least not on PlayStation.
Other than Spyro, I can't think of a single full 3D PlayStation game that still holds up and are fun to just move around in today. Nintendo really nailed it on the N64 however.
Previous generation were the end game of 16bits 2D while PlayStation was the early game of 3D graphics, if that makes sense
the only reason this sold was so hispanics could blast their obnoxious taco music through their crumbling favelas
it was the original no games machine
This is some residual N64 cope
PS1 sold more but N64 had far better games. PS1 has no 99/100 game and movement in 3D is shite in all PS1 games. They were so impressed with Nintendo/Mario 64 that they added analogs to the PS1 controller a year after Mario 64's release.
>Zelda, Mario, the list goes on...
None of these are Mario/Zelda and they shit on PS1 games. And this is just a few.
Banjo-Kazooie
Banjo-Tooie
Goldeneye
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Perfect Dark
Starfox 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Turok
Turok 2
F-Zero X
Donkey Kong 64
Blast Corps
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Jet Force Gemini
Harvest Moon 64
1080 Snowboarding
Holy cope
This list is a joke....right?
None of these games are better than Crash 1-3 or CTR, Spyro 1-3, FFVII-IX or Tactics or Metal Gear Solid
>FF
>MGS
This thread is about video games, not movies.
Jrpgs held up pretty good. Pre-rendered backgrounds look nice and great music.
I get what you're saying. They wanted to pull off a new generation of gaming prior to hardware accelerated graphics. Results were often times ugly if they tried to put too much detail on the screen.
the ps1 aged far better than the N64 did. I thought I didn't like retro games until I started playing playstation games
>I thought I didn't like retro games until I started playing playstation games
You still don't, you just like movies.
Hmmm yes you're right Bubsy 3D has aged like fine wine
Crash 2 and 3 aged fine.
Metal Gear Solid aged fine.
find a flaw
if a game's only redeeming quality is cutting edge graphics, it will look outdated a month after release
if a game is actually good, it will always be fun to play
games like ff7, virtua fighter, dead or alive, tomb raider and oot had pushing as many polygons as possible as their main concern, so they already felt dated when the 6th generation came out
on the other hand, games like thps2, tekken 3, ctr, sotn and smash 64 were intrinsecally good, and are still enjoyed decades later even beyond the usual nostalgia glasses
>oot felt dated
is that why it was rereleased on the Gamecube, the wii, the wiiu, the 3DS, and soon the Switch?
Black person, did you skip all the 2D Ps1's games?
the sacrifices were necessary
Game play wise, mostly yes. but the low poly visuals it provides is the becoming a growing retro craze, because pixels has been spammed to death anyways.
