This expansion looks like a safe one to skip out on without feeling like you're missing out on anything. Thematically, the cultural aesthetics they chose this time around aren't very appealing. The new character seems unlikable except to a certain demographic. Viper is an uninspiring job. Artist looks tacky. Besides, the content will be there anyways if one decides to come back to a future release.

I think they're bad at optimisation and whenever I mention it someone tells me that it's because it's an MMO. The performance doesn't measure up for how it looks vs other games when operating on similar cards & the same GPU usage.
And to be fair to the Xbox series S, the APU only consume 100w, that's brutally low for the GPU power the game needs. Even the One X was 150W and somewhere in line with an undervolted 1070.

Honestly, Yoshida is overly ambitious with his claims and doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut, but he's also sane and down to earth. He knows his limits and what he should or shouldn't be trying to do, and he plays his own games so he actually knows on the ground floor what's going down even if he's got developer bias of knowing the intention of things working versus what the audience interprets of it. Nomura isn't in the grand position he was previously with VII Remake, he's creative producer for Rebirth forwards, but he's pretty much a wacky ideas guy and director now that does what he wants to do and doesn't care much for anyone else in that respect.

There's a lot of gear options but most equipment is generally going to have a bit of that fantasy styling edge to it. The big problem is the character customization itself, it's really damn limited so it's hard to make someone actually look like anything but a generic FF14 midlander/miqo'te/au ra, etc
It is satisfying to mix and match things together, especially from different sets. I like to start with a weapon then see if there's gear that matches it.

Supposedly working from the ends inward, so stormblood would be the last to get zone overhauls.
Every area Dawntrail will take you is getting the overhaul and then afterward will be ARR upward worked on and released upon finish.

That is up to you the formula is the same and won't change. If the story for the expac draws you in then play the high end content. Endwalker was a snoozefest so I skipped the whole expac, going to do a lot of cutscene skipping when I resub.
I would do the Alliance/Normal raids and trial series as you get them. They can even help with gear your way through dungeons and shit if that ends up being an issue at any point though I don't know if that's an issue for new players.
Save stuff like Eureka/Bozja until you're ready to do gindin' content. Though no harm in unlocking it as you find it, I just wouldn't spend much time on it until you have nothing else to do.

The final tier of A-raids has loot that's end of it's expansion level barring hard mode content. Mostly I just remember occasionally hitting an item level wall when playing catch up before the start of a new expac. Like I said I dunno how much that affects new players so your mileage may vary.

That's the point, they didn't alter the original look while making everything tremendously better, from the eyes to the hair texture, the way the lighting works, the skin looks way more natural than the ugly plastic look it used to have. I'm very happy with it honestly.

Anyone know what the difference between HBAO and GTAO is?
GTAO is a kind of evolution of HBAO, however I think a lot of GPUs have hardware acceleration for HBAO which can make it more performant
truthfully you probably won't notice a difference. geometry in XIV typically isn't complicated enough to notice occlusion weirdness even with low-quality AO presets

Which armors in the character creation have the uprezzed textures? Edenmorn looks like shit.
Viper gear, race specific gear, and maybe the Clive costume, can't quite tell. All the others look very old and flat by comparison.

DLSS determines those settings automatically depending on the preset (and I assume they're using quality)
It has its own anti-aliasing, ambient occlusion, dynamic res settings etc. I think you can technically frick with it but you have to do it at the driver level.
