I suppose but no one is asking for a harem. At least not the one's who prefer the direction Veilguard is going. They want to get with who they wish. Even when a game has characters with different orientations. Pickings get real slim for everyone beyond the heterosexual male. It makes sense since they are the primary audience. But still I get the frustration, being at the mercy of the writers and developers. Providing at most only one or two options that are middling at best.

She was still romanceable by both male and female characters since early access. Don't get me wrong, Larian cutting that along with a lot of other major sections of the game was still crap. Yes only a small amount of players, though more than it used to be I think for these kind of games, care about romance. But it is precisely from that group that you find the ones who blow a gasket when the NPC's sexuality doesn't always bend towards their preferences. At the end of the day, romance in these games is just a kind of fanservice, not really a way to develop a character's story or future. Playersexual romance helps to guarantee the latter, but creates the least b***hing and moaning so they go with that.
Which is garbage because it specifically excludes certain outcomes for romance, such as having children. It really annoyed me that in Expeditions: Rome, for example, you can have children with Julia, but you can't have them with Deianeira since Deianeira could also be romanced by women, whereas Julia was men only. As a result you can only have the wife and child outcome with Julia. Now the happy ending with a family is not possible for any characters going forward since having children is only possible for heterosexual couples and since characters must be available to both sexes, it will no longer be allowed as a resolution to a romance.
I know, that's why I said it is sterile. But it's here to stay. It is actually easier for them to do it this way. Less b***hing and less work on their part ultimately.

For the record, I would prefer not having player sexual romances. It's never upset me when I couldn't romance someone. I just shrug and whatever. See e.g. Suvi in Andromeda. I just accept the battle is lost. BG3 in my opinion ended three long running CRPG arguments:
1. Romance over not having romance. Sure some (see Obsidian based on Avowed) haven't faced the music, but they are now a dying breed whose days are numbered

The problem I have with party members being player sexual is that the gender is never mentioned. At least not in games I've played. Liara never comments on you having nice breasts if you're femshep or having nice pecs if you're maleshep for instance. Literally the same with no difference.
I agree it makes the relationship feel more sterile. The player character will never have (mostly) sexualized terms applied to them like "handsome" or be specifically attractive based on your sexual features to the character. Also let's not forget it's not just sex here. Past games also racial choices mattered. Solas will only romance an elf and that's a meaningful thing based on who he is. In BG2 Aerie will only date certain races (I think Viconia didn't have preferences though, but it's been a while). This will never happen again either.

That's a fair bit of criticism. Although it is most likely that way to save on the cost of recording varied lines that mentions the protagonist gender. But it would be nice to see some variation in that regard. Even then they did mention you could pick your pronouns, so I don't see why they couldn't make the extra effort in regards to romance. Which reminds me in BG3, all of the companions are bisexual. But the only romance option who seems to bring up the character's gender is Wyll. At least from what I remember. He'll either describe you as handsome or beautiful, depending on what gender you are along with he or she pronouns.

I get the complaint but I'll still take what I can get. If BG3 had gone the route of having the companions be of different orientations. I just know that the only ones gay/bi men would have got were Astarion and maybe even Halsin. Neither of which I find all that appealing. And too often do romance options who happen to be m/m fit the archetype that Astarion embodies. A flamboyant rogue who is of a morally dubious background.

Baldurs Queer 3 was a disaster for modern gaming.
Bioware was becoming gay as frick long before Larian anon. The problem with Baldurs Gate having all its companions romances for either gender is that Larian wrote them all as extremely horny c**ts so they all try and frick you as soon as possible. It's the problem Anders had in Dragon Age 2 but applied to everyone, where you have to explicitly say "I don't want to frick you homo." to avoid him trying to frick you.

It probably comes down to cutscenes. BG3 opted for a more conservative CC to avoid having to spend too much time fixing the inevitable frick ton of graphical glitches that would occur in cutscenes if they had sliders for every body part in the character creator. Not only does BG3 has an insane amount of cutscenes, 180 hours to be precise, they're also much more freeform than what you normally see in these sort of cinematic RPGs.
CRPG character creators are typically very bare bones. It's MMOs and ARPGs that usually have very comprehensive character creators.

it's actually 5 (3 abilities, an ultimate and ability from a weapon) per each character, plus abilities from runes. you also get multiple weapons with different movesets, parries, block and other things. then all that can be chained into combos, kind of like you do that in gow and dmc.

They did, on the QA they specificly said that Harding is there to tell you what solas its like as you dont know him, as for the second part that's the same as the stupid voice in the head from mass effect andromeda.

Rogue originally had the ability to swap between bow and daggers in origins, warrior could too actually.
Archery is also Kingdoms of Amalur style where it's can't be your main weapon. It's a replenishing cooldown stock. Your main weapon as a rogue is always the dual blades.

I don't think it will, people were not happy with the Inquisition reveal, especially here (though the negative feedback here back then was somewhat coherent and wasn't mired in idpol bullshit), and yet that game sold like hotcakes, it's clear they want the mainstream market more than the niche one
2014 was a weird year, there was no other releases competing with it and it was at the peak of that console generation, things are different now.
There also the bundles numbers that get inflated by retailers, a lot of those sales come the same way Horizon Zero Dawn or other sony exclusives get inflated sales as it was the most popular bundle sold and every retailer had warehouses full of PS3 with DAI bundles that were never bought.

I wonder how much will be acknowledged about each background you pick. Particularly when it comes to the Antivan Crows. Correct me if I am wrong but aren’t most of their recruits former slaves? Being used not only as trained assassins but sex slaves as well? I’m aware the Crows were notorious in Antiva, being intertwined in the politics of that land. But why do they look so obvious, from what we’ve seen of them design wise in concept art. I know Origins had only a few different designs but I’d expect as much from a band of criminals like them. It’s just weird seeing them with intricately tailored outfits adorned with Crow feathers. Wouldn’t that make them more conspicuous?

I see, I doubt reactivity and permutations will amount to much with Rook if you do play them as a Crow. But I do wonder if Lucanis will bring attention to that either in a conversation or using such “tactics” on the field as he is a Crow too. Zevran was certainly not shy about that.

Supposedly there’s a specialization that’s more melee oriented I think, probably similar to Arcane Warrior or Knight-Enchanter.
There's a Spellblade specialization, but I doubt staff smacking will be involved.
They haven't really shown the mage gameplay, they showed journos the warrior class privately and rogue in the released video.

Inquisition was so terrible that I couldn't even bring myself to finish it and this looks even worse. The main thing I care about in an RPG is the characters and this looks like it has one of the worst cast of characters I've seen in any RPG ever.
