I like DD but the "more of the same is just what I wanted!!" is a massive cope. A sequel should need a justification to exist, otherwise just play the original. If you think "better graphics and some tweaks to classes and spells" are enough for a full price game, you're already lost.

Good point. DD only being 20% finished and held back by time, budget and hardware is a pretty good reason for them to now make a sequel that has everything they wanted.
Being too small and unfinished was DD's big issue though. In this case, there was nothing major mechanics wise that needed fixing except maybe less repetitive pawns and a better travel system. It did need more sidequests, a more fleshed out world, more to the map, vocations, etc which it's all getting. This seems fairly 'justified' in that sense

I have a nitpick to make. In a recent interview Itsuno said there's no scripted events, but that's clearly a lie. There's demo footage of a cart approaching a goblin ambush who were lined up blocking the road in a defensive position, it's clearly a chance based scripted encounter.

I'd just like the ability to cross a deep body of water. Although I do enjoy brineing pawns. If it wasn't for brine I might have completely lost my shit that one time my mage kept enchanting my weapons with fire during a drake fight, brine gave me a way to modify my party on the fly.

Get fricked. DD isn't like Oblivion where if you don't optimally level the game rapes you on normal and harder difficulties, you can do just fine leveling normally. You're only really gimped if you want to change from a fighting vocation to a magic one and vice verse once you're already high level. Even then it's not unfeasible.
It's not my fault the damage formula is the most moronic shit possible. It's straight up "Attack value - Defense value" and if your attack is weaker than the enemy's defense you deal only 1 or 0 damage.
Thus the entire game becomes a stat check.
The gameplay was great, the setting is fantastic even with all the wasted potential in DDDA, but the leveling/scaling was fricking stupid.

I can't BUT, if someone was to make swimming feel good and actually worthwhile, it would be Itsuno, but clearly he never cared or planned to have it for the first game, so it's extremely unlikely for DD to ever get such mechanics.
The swimming in Sekiro was fast and fluid and connected areas through underwater tunnels. That's great. Headless bossfights underwater sucked, but that's a different issue.

The only one I'd recommend is "Don't Blind Me" since it removes a lot of the bloom that just covers up big parts of the screen, especially for Magick Archer, but it's entirely optional. Other than that, nothing is needed.

Good point. DD only being 20% finished and held back by time, budget and hardware is a pretty good reason for them to now make a sequel that has everything they wanted.
Being too small and unfinished was DD's big issue though. In this case, there was nothing major mechanics wise that needed fixing except maybe less repetitive pawns and a better travel system. It did need more sidequests, a more fleshed out world, more to the map, vocations, etc which it's all getting. This seems fairly 'justified' in that sense
what other games play like DD? this is the exact same problem with co-op games, you get a few good ones and then everyone immediately turns on you and goes 'well just go play the old co-op games' when you've literally already played them all to death and are tired of them, and then modern gaming for co-op is a bunch of 2D pixel shit, topdown, RNG shitfests that aren't fun after the 6th time and they just clone each other
same with early access survival crafting, it's always co-op but they never have bugfixing and multiplayer is missing features, has bugs the singleplayer doesn't have, etc

I'd just like the ability to cross a deep body of water. Although I do enjoy brineing pawns. If it wasn't for brine I might have completely lost my shit that one time my mage kept enchanting my weapons with fire during a drake fight, brine gave me a way to modify my party on the fly.

We have no confirmation either way. One website with some awful broken translation claimed leveling was vocation independent and that's it.
You still auto-level, it just doesn't increase your stats based on class anymore. It just increases all your stats over time.

Get fricked. DD isn't like Oblivion where if you don't optimally level the game rapes you on normal and harder difficulties, you can do just fine leveling normally. You're only really gimped if you want to change from a fighting vocation to a magic one and vice verse once you're already high level. Even then it's not unfeasible.
It's not my fault the damage formula is the most moronic shit possible. It's straight up "Attack value - Defense value" and if your attack is weaker than the enemy's defense you deal only 1 or 0 damage.
Thus the entire game becomes a stat check.

The swimming itself in BotW sucks because of stamina, but the fact that you can swim across small bodies of water is great.

I think the brine in DD is a good idea. Combined with the physics and grabbing we can do in 2, it makes water a genuine combat hazard. Having level design play a role in combat is a good thing.

The only one I'd recommend is "Don't Blind Me" since it removes a lot of the bloom that just covers up big parts of the screen, especially for Magick Archer, but it's entirely optional. Other than that, nothing is needed.

I like dinput8.dll hooks for the hotkeys. Honestly, I only use it to "quick save" and deal with the lamp. You're totally fine vanilla.

That would be satisfactory. DD is a slow paced adventure that pushes prep. DD2 more so(or so it seems). It's bizarre to heal to max HP in an instant. At least reviving takes time now.
