Archer looks like it's more a Pawn class and seemed bad against large enemies which is where a lot of fun of Dragon's Dogma is
Fighter is a no because of the shield unless there's cuh-razy Royal Guard mechanics to it but i'd be surprised
Thief is a no because i've played enough Strider and Assassin in DD1 and some of the reason the reason i'd go mage is to build the magic stat to use the hybrid classes.

That makes no sense to me. Mage is the ultimate pawn class. It exists purely for heals and buffs. If you want to go magic for a player, you pick Sorcerer or Mystic Archer.
I’ve tried not to delve to deep into viewing gameplay, but does the sorcerer still look like an upgraded mage or have mages gotten some unique things to set themselves apart, like maybe more debuff focused or something?
