FEH has a facsimile of that. There's slight customization for the player character, dialogueless cutscenes when building support ranks with one of your units (with a wedding as the cutscene for max support), and events where your character and one of your units go on a quest alone, with both stahes where it's you two against a wave of enemies and cutscenes showing your attempts at doing different things along the way.

Arknights is unironically the best tower defense game ever made. No other game has a comparable level of depth, complexity, and diversity of gameplay features and mechanics. It's easy to dismiss it just because it's gacha but if you actually look at it objectively it's a genuinely great game.
The amount of gacha "games" with cute and fluffy anthro characters in them that're condemned to die in obscurity thanks to being tied to a limited-time digital PNG slot machine is infuriating.

You might want to add another AA sniper (e.g. Kroos), a single target medic (Gavial, Sussurro, Silence), an AoE medic (Perfumer, Ptilopsis,...).
SilverAsh only truly shines after you E2 him so I'd say he's on the top op the list. But you should E2 a 4* operator first so you can borrow strong support units from friends. 6* are strong but very expensive to raise especially for a new player.
Make sure to fully upgrade your factory and trading post in base as early as possible. They give very important passive income.

Alt Kroos is good. You can use her alongside Exu to cover your sniper need.
Alt Reed aka Reedic can only heal when she attacks something. You will use her to explode shits more than healing anyway so a dedicated healer is recommended instead. She won't be enough when you really need some good healing.
Pram is alright but you probably won't need debuffer like her currently. You can ignore Earthspirit.
Some 4* are actually good and you can use them even in later game (e.g. Myrtle, Vigna, Sussurro, Click, Jaye, Ethan, Gravel, Cuora, Bubble, Purestream, Gummy...) so don't ignore them but don't spread out your resources too much. Make sure to have a solid full squad first before expanding.

personally I'd drop them but only if you have something better in their role to replace them. Shamare or Suzuran would respectively be far better. Earthspirit would be the first to be dropped from the team if you need other things.
If you don't have Suzuran or Angelina, I can also recommend leveling Podenco. Slowers are really nice to have and Podenco can occasionally also use AOE slows which are super useful. Silence is nice too. Especially during this event, she can handle the small adds pretty well.

Reed Alter really dominates this event with the shitty death spawns. Seeing the giant explosion chain reactions are just wonderful.
Both her S2 and S3 are massive hit numbers generators so it's not surprising so see her lay waste to enemies that have a HP bar based on the number of hit they receive.
The only gacha I'm really enjoying is snowbreak since it has actual gameplay. It's not great gameplay, but it's good enough.

Its a game where you 'roll' for characters with unique traits and often sexy bodies to be used in some manner in gameplay. Not all Gachas are the same but the majority are really basic, usually turn based or auto battlers. Genshin Impact is an extreme exception.
games with "roll-for-character" microtransactions akin to "gachapon" toy vending machines, they are mostly mobile but there are many Korean online games also falling on this category but also on items and cosmetics
Think of it as X genre with pachinko shit where you got rewarded with anime breasts or something, X can be any genre really, from BotW clone, to a tower defense, to the most common auto battler which are barely a game. You could easily make a football or fps into a gacha too, gacha itself is not a genre.
