Sven, the foudner of Larian and director of most games, is still very pro-developers as he was and still is one for decades and genuinely enjoys making games.
Among the recent layoffs within the entertainment industries, the entire WotC team who acted as the middle manager between WotC and Larian were fired at Hasbro's direction. These along others clashes both companies had, pissed off Sven a lot which ended up with them deciding to stop working on BG3.
This is why there was such a sudden change from "we might do DLC" to "we're not doing any kind of DLC and finishing our work for Hasbro as soon as the last roadmap patch is out", which will likely be promised modding tools.
There were also rumors that Hasbro asked Larian to sell part of the new studios opened during BG3 developers and fire the newly made teams to profit even more.
Honestly I always had the impression the relationship between the two was delicate. BG3 feels like a Divinity game weraing a DnD disguise and was Sven's dream game, but it's so weird to see him get so worked up and leaving not looking back after achieving it.
BG3 is just a stepping stone for Larian. The question is, will they be able to keep going now that they're so big. CDPR fricked themselves over after Witcher 3
BG3 is a massive AAA game project that was wildly succesful, there's nothing they can step up to that would be bigger, they just need to now continue creating games as big and as succesful to slowly build up their fanbase and become a household name. Their actual step up game was DOS2 that got them on the RPG and mainstream market as a very well recieved game both in terms of sales and critics. At this point the only bigger companies ahead of them are shit like Rockstar and they only got as big as they are because they continually made great games like BG3 every few years
Larian already stated they're working on 3 different projects ratehr than a massive one. OS3 or whatever main game they make will look great for sure, but I don't think they're going for another massive game like bg3.

Combat is literally trash, savescumming bypasses all dialogue checks which makes investing points in charisma mostly useless. The highest difficulty can be cheesed with Druids. Act 3 is so fricking boring that you skip the sidequests. The worst thing is the ending, it leaves a bittersweet unfulfilling taste in your mouth despite the choices you made.

Normies shilled the frick out of it and were saying that it's the first finished and bug-free game on release in years, but that's because they haven't even finished the first act. Game ramps down past the second act quickly, and Act 3 was almost unplayable.

Dude, I haven't ever played a game that has left me as blue balled as BG3 after the ending. Act 3 is straight up unfinished, and you can easily tell that something is definitely missing, there was a lot of cut content for sure. The endings feel underwhelming, as well as some of the character arcs.
It isn't a totally bad game, but no wonder that players expected an expansion or some people weren't satisfied, because the story in its current state sucks.

How does BG3 compare to Original Sin 2 as a co-op game?
For me DoS 2 is more geared for co-op and BG3 is much more for singe player. And no not for the sex scenes. I don't care to ever co-op in BG3 again but I'm down to c-op yet again in DoS 2 (and considering suggesting it to my co-op bro after we exhaust the 2 games we're doing). Ultimately, both are good for co-op, not like either are bad choices.
Because dos2 gameplay is much more interesting. 5e is strictly worse and the only thing better about bg3 is that they had a much bigger budget and therefore could do a lot more with cut scenes, dialogs and story

the difference in ER's expansion ( not a DLC ) is that its not endgame content unless you're using a character from the endgame, while most other games have their DLCs separate from the main game or intented as the last playable content.

I'm in act 3, about to go to Raphael's house to steal the hammer after finishing Astarions daddy issues.
While the game is far from being bad as some people would make you believe, it is nowhere close to BG 2. It isn't even close to the same level of quality. Since it came out, I probably finished first two at least 10 times (blending them together using TUTU is amazing), while after 100 hours of this I can't wait to wrap up remaining side quests and finish it up. Story, villains, companions and atmosphere are simply not comparable. Everyone jumping on your dick the moment you look positively in their direction is tiresome and just proves they bit more than they can chew with trying to appease to everyone, with the end result being shallow and under developed.
The lack of day night cycle really ruins any sense of exploration. In BG 1 and 2 you really get a sense of the passage of time because the game tells you your party traveled for X amount of hours to get from one location to another, and cities and npc behavior changes depending on the time a bit too. You lose too much for trying to go for such high graphical fidelity.

Beyond was much worse for some reason, that two characters dynamic just didn't work the way they probably thought it did. Divinity 2 was ok after all the patches, didn't play dragon commander so can't comment on that one.

Honestly it's alright but all it really does is remind me of how far RPGs fell after Bioware raped the genre. I'll being enjoying myself and then the Bioware-isms will just leak directly into view and I'll get miserable again for the next 15 minutes, repeat ad infinitum.
The saddest part is that even had Bioware not existed the genre would've been raped by Bethesda and Fromsoft after them anyway.
