I can articulate what's wrong with ER's combat design though. It's unintuitive. That's what's wrong with it. Bosses don't rely on readable and fair attacks. they have nonsensical combos that don't actually make any sense, they have moronic delayed attacks that look stiff and awkward or they just lazily through gank fights at you with enemies clearly not designed to be fought 2v1. If I die in a fight and I feel like it's my fault, it's good difficulty. If I die in ER and feel like there's literally nothing I could have done differently, that's cheap and not fun to learn because. Good difficulty should be intuitive. ER is not. It exists to catch you out instead of just simply trying to challenge you normally.

And you sound like you're projecting. As I said ER is not that difficult. It's just cheap and annoying so it doesn't feel as rewarding to learn enemy attacks. A good example of difficulty that's not From related would be Fatalis in MHW. That fight is one of the hardest fights in any game I've ever played ever but is insanely fair with no gimmicks or catch you out bullshit. I spent like 5 hours before I beat him. Malenia took me like 20 tries. Once you learn their timings Malenia is a complete joke because there's nothing inherently difficult about her fight beyond learning the timings. ER combat is poorly designed because it relies on cheap gimmicks that require you to unlearn normal patterns instead of just being difficult with fast moves, combos and aggression.

The difficulty of From Soft games varies by how much you read guides. Sekiro might be among the hardest mechanically but a guided vs. guideless run will play nearly identically. Conversely, a blind playthrough of Elden Ring can confer tremendous amounts of suffering until you figure out what the good weapons are and how to acquire upgrade materials.

Hard to evaluate the reviews. On a basic level it seems like it was executed well, pretty much just more Elden Ring. I'm a bit sus about the high acclaim because ER was a big deal and therefore a reviewer might be compelled to play to the crowd.
I mean I hope so, but if I don't know the reviewer well enough I've no way of judging their perspective. I haven't been disappointed in a From game in a long time, but it doesn't mean that the DLC is kino apropos nothing.
What did you guys expect?
Giving it any less than a 10/10 means getting hordes of angry gamers charging at you and telling you "you're bad at games".

Both BB bosses are faster than Malenia, have more range on normal attacks and take less time between moves unlike Malenia who patiently waits after every attack. They also can't be incredibly easily staggered out of animations and damn near stun locked like Malenia can. Quite literally the only reason Malenia is even difficult at all is because of her stupid giga move that you literally can't avoid. If you want a well designed boss in ER that isn't cheap, look at Mogh. Easily the best boss in the game but it's still not close to being as difficult as Orphon or Ludwig.

Orphan can be trivialised by any player by simply using ripostes in his first phase and backstab visceral opportunities in his second phase.
Ludwig isn't even comparable. His difficulty is largely isolated in his first phase, where you can simply dodge to his left and attack his side. He's honestly about as difficult as your first time up against the Fully Grown Fallen Star Beast. I suspect people get scared of his appearance and aggression, and falter because of that.
This guy is basically the first boss of the DLC equivalent to the tree sentinel but will be a pushover, especially to my Guts/Lion Claw build.

It has a B scaling in dex which is what Arcane builds usually use. So if a enemy/boss is resistant to bleeds you equip the bloodhoung fang and coat it with grease/enchant it relevant to the enemies weakness.

This is completely false. I fought most main bosses in Elden Ring hundreds of times offline and in Co-op and they are way more unpredictable when you fight alongside a host due to random aggro changes. Fighting them alone makes them feel scripted.

I can articulate what's wrong with ER's combat design though. It's unintuitive. That's what's wrong with it. Bosses don't rely on readable and fair attacks. they have nonsensical combos that don't actually make any sense, they have moronic delayed attacks that look stiff and awkward or they just lazily through gank fights at you with enemies clearly not designed to be fought 2v1. If I die in a fight and I feel like it's my fault, it's good difficulty. If I die in ER and feel like there's literally nothing I could have done differently, that's cheap and not fun to learn because. Good difficulty should be intuitive. ER is not. It exists to catch you out instead of just simply trying to challenge you normally.

A good example of difficulty that's not From related would be Fatalis in MHW. That fight is one of the hardest fights in any game I've ever played ever but is insanely fair with no gimmicks or catch you out bullshit. I spent like 5 hours before I beat him. Malenia took me like 20 tries. Once you learn their timings Malenia is a complete joke because there's nothing inherently difficult about her fight beyond learning the timings. ER combat is poorly designed because it relies on cheap gimmicks that require you to unlearn normal patterns instead of just being difficult with fast moves, combos and aggression.

A minor gripe lies in the final boss of the main story path, who I won't spoil here of course. Loads of the story bosses in general have elaborate cutscenes or moments of pure cinema, where you wander into a hall and an NPC's stood there, their voice echoing across a large chamber and making you think "...wait, no". It's just, that final boss fight didn't feel all that final to me? Yes, they were outrageously difficult but I was surprised to learn that they were indeed the final fight having consulted our Treehouse guides team.

Malenia would still wreck this combo (not that I would know...). So when another boss is called "outrageously difficult", he should be at least on her level.
Both BB bosses are faster than Malenia, have more range on normal attacks and take less time between moves unlike Malenia who patiently waits after every attack. They also can't be incredibly easily staggered out of animations and damn near stun locked like Malenia can. Quite literally the only reason Malenia is even difficult at all is because of her stupid giga move that you literally can't avoid. If you want a well designed boss in ER that isn't cheap, look at Mogh. Easily the best boss in the game but it's still not close to being as difficult as Orphon or Ludwig.
Orphan can be trivialised by any player by simply using ripostes in his first phase and backstab visceral opportunities in his second phase.
Ludwig isn't even comparable. His difficulty is largely isolated in his first phase, where you can simply dodge to his left and attack his side. He's honestly about as difficult as your first time up against the Fully Grown Fallen Star Beast. I suspect people get scared of his appearance and aggression, and falter because of that.

It has a B scaling in dex which is what Arcane builds usually use. So if a enemy/boss is resistant to bleeds you equip the bloodhoung fang and coat it with grease/enchant it relevant to the enemies weakness.

This is completely false. I fought most main bosses in Elden Ring hundreds of times offline and in Co-op and they are way more unpredictable when you fight alongside a host due to random aggro changes. Fighting them alone makes them feel scripted.
