Yes because we are talking about games that long since stopped development maintained by a skeleton crew and most likely the original devs left the company so it would be very hard to revisit this title and give it proper support. I mean even when nightdive remaster titles not a lot of them see play and we are talking about refurbishing relatively simple games through the KEX engine.
I mean you could make the case that this could help Ubisoft since their old titles could be relevant but they do offer DRM games through GOG nobody buys. There is really no incentive and if the game really had a passionate fanbase they could develop a spiritual succesor themselves like Fallout was to Wasteland.

The only thing these companies have to do is put an offline mode where people can play the game even if there's no servers up in the future. Phantasy Star Online did this but you could only play solo and it didn't matter and as a result, you can still boot it up and play it today even if you don't want to hop on a private server to play it. The Gamecube port even added 4 player split screen coop which was based as frick. When PSO allowed players to play offline back in 2000, there's no excuse for something like Diablo 4 to not allow it in 2024.
It really depends on what they try to legislate, if they try to legislate software in general and people's access to it then the corps are fricked.

If the games were actually good, it wouldn't matter if people could pirate it and play it offline because if it was fun then they'd buy the game anyway so they could play it with friends. BG3 let you pirate the game and host your own servers and it still sold incredibly well, the head of Larian had a good take that even if they pirate the game now, you're still making fans that will enjoy it and buy future products. But Larian isn't publicly traded so they don't have shareholders breathing down their necks to make sure that profits go up next quarter, Larian's next game will most likely be as hyped as Cyberpunk as a result, because they value long term growth instead of short term profits.

The only thing these companies have to do is put an offline mode where people can play the game even if there's no servers up in the future. Phantasy Star Online did this but you could only play solo and it didn't matter and as a result, you can still boot it up and play it today even if you don't want to hop on a private server to play it. The Gamecube port even added 4 player split screen coop which was based as frick. When PSO allowed players to play offline back in 2000, there's no excuse for something like Diablo 4 to not allow it in 2024.
It really depends on what they try to legislate, if they try to legislate software in general and people's access to it then the corps are fricked.

Online only is just a form of DRM now. If the games were actually good, it wouldn't matter if people could pirate it and play it offline because if it was fun then they'd buy the game anyway so they could play it with friends. BG3 let you pirate the game and host your own servers and it still sold incredibly well, the head of Larian had a good take that even if they pirate the game now, you're still making fans that will enjoy it and buy future products. But Larian isn't publicly traded so they don't have shareholders breathing down their necks to make sure that profits go up next quarter, Larian's next game will most likely be as hyped as Cyberpunk as a result, because they value long term growth instead of short term profits.

If this is line of thinking is taken to what I believe is the logical conclusion, at some certain threshold an in-group consisting of a relatively few individuals or a conglomeration of a few of these in-groups will eventually have enough resources to use to successfully claim all the resources over the other in-groups and you better hope you are part of the right in-group(s). While laws and regulations can be cleverly used by the in-groups competing against me, I believe this one can't be used against me and mine and most likely you and yours.
