Everyone goes on about muh old games good new games bad, soul soulless vidya graphics etc but no one talks about the actual biggest casualty of modern vidya; the music.

It's literally all fricking garbage nowadays, even the modern games that have a reputation for having good music are completely unmemorable and non-evocative, I keep track of music threads and recommendations on Ganker like a hawk and listen to tracks anons post blindly, looking for good stuff and games to try out based their music alone, and literally every single song I write down turns out to be from a pre-2008 game when I look it up after listening. Can anything even be done to salvage the situation?

True, probably it's due to cut development costs, because it's really expensive and most don't care about music, it's only a factor for RPG games. Doom OST was the last I looked up on Spotify.

Are you moronic or are just larping?
Dark Souls 3, The Witcher 3, Outer Wilds, Fallout New Vegas, Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal and so many fricking other games outclass everything pre-2008 which is a slight variation of either rock or droaning.

You call others out for something you do the next fricking sentence.

      >Dark Souls 3, Outer Wilds, Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal
Listened to all the supposed best tracks anons keep posting, several times even to give them a chance, all terrible and unmemorable

      >The Witcher 3, Fallout New Vegas
Full moron, almost every good track in TW3 is just an existing slavic folk song, every good track in New Vegas is Mark Morgan's stuff from the original games or real licensed mid-century music, next you're going to tell me the Spyro Remakes are an example of modern games with good music because they have Copeland's untouched OST

Here's a random sample of tracks I bookmarked from Ganker recommendations, I'm pretty sure none of them are rock or "droaning" but I can't be assed to check
The King of Fighters '97 - Bloody (Arranged)
Age of Mythology Soundtrack - 06 Flavor Cats
VGMusic: Savage (Amiga) - Level 1

Ys III Wanderers From Ys (Genesis) OST - 03 Sarina Village
Sora no Kiseki SC OST - Looking Up at the Sky

It's not all garbage, but I think the real issue is that orchestrated music is less distinct as a rule. Additionally, back in the day you could find bangers everywhere. The fricking SILVER SURFER licensed game has one of the most iconic Stage 1 themes of the era. The Avengers game that came out earlier this year didn't have a single good or memorable track with a multimillion dollar budget. It's not that music is getting worse, it's just that a lot of studios don't even try.

Oh yeah listen to this soulless drone

I could go on you fricking moron.

      >Rock is le bad
"People" like you don't deserve to live, since you have no idea what constitutes good or bad in music, and blindly listen to whatever the mass media tells you is "good." Look me in the eye and tell me how anything in modern music can compete with rock from its peak in pre 2008.

Well, people infuse their nostalgia when talking about their favorite OSTs. Some of the most recent OST that come to mind as "good" are:

    - Atelier Ryza 2
    - Furi
    - Ace Combat 7
    - Hades
    - Splatoon 2
    - Ys 8
    - Cuphead
    - Celeste
    - Devil May Cry 5 (Vergil's Theme in particular)
    - DK Tropical Freeze
    - No Straight Roads
    - Outer Wilds

To name a few at least (pls don't bully me)

Music is actually the least bad thing about modern videogames (and media in general). Unlike art and most other things in vg production nowadays it only takes one great composer to keep the quality up to standard, so it's probably not uncommon for music to be the one redeeming thing about a game.
Not that I've played so many modern games, but the Japanese ones I've played still had good tracks, and I've been hooked on FTL's soundtrack lately (not super recent, though AE was 2014)
... Looking through my games, music prob did peak earlier, it just isn't as big a concern as everything else.
