Everyone goes on about muh old games good new games bad, soul soulless vidya graphics etc but no one talks about the actual biggest casualty of modern vidya; the music.
It's literally all fricking garbage nowadays, even the modern games that have a reputation for having good music are completely unmemorable and non-evocative, I keep track of music threads and recommendations on Ganker like a hawk and listen to tracks anons post blindly, looking for good stuff and games to try out based their music alone, and literally every single song I write down turns out to be from a pre-2008 game when I look it up after listening. Can anything even be done to salvage the situation?
True, probably it's due to cut development costs, because it's really expensive and most don't care about music, it's only a factor for RPG games. Doom OST was the last I looked up on Spotify.
Are you moronic or are just larping?
Dark Souls 3, The Witcher 3, Outer Wilds, Fallout New Vegas, Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal and so many fricking other games outclass everything pre-2008 which is a slight variation of either rock or droaning.
You call others out for something you do the next fricking sentence.
>Dark Souls 3, Outer Wilds, Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal
Listened to all the supposed best tracks anons keep posting, several times even to give them a chance, all terrible and unmemorable
>The Witcher 3, Fallout New Vegas
Full moron, almost every good track in TW3 is just an existing slavic folk song, every good track in New Vegas is Mark Morgan's stuff from the original games or real licensed mid-century music, next you're going to tell me the Spyro Remakes are an example of modern games with good music because they have Copeland's untouched OST
Here's a random sample of tracks I bookmarked from Ganker recommendations, I'm pretty sure none of them are rock or "droaning" but I can't be assed to check

I recognize a few of these tracks, good taste. And I agree, it's pretty rare for me to play a modern game and have the music stick with me.
Almost as if music taste is a subjective matter!
>oh by the way, Outer Wilds has better music than any of those you posted but I'll save the bread anyway
?t=949
holy shit
Cool recs
It's not all garbage, but I think the real issue is that orchestrated music is less distinct as a rule. Additionally, back in the day you could find bangers everywhere. The fricking SILVER SURFER licensed game has one of the most iconic Stage 1 themes of the era. The Avengers game that came out earlier this year didn't have a single good or memorable track with a multimillion dollar budget. It's not that music is getting worse, it's just that a lot of studios don't even try.
Oh yeah listen to this soulless drone
I could go on you fricking moron.
>my opinion about music is the only valid one
damn dude. i think music in games is doing great calm down. your tracks being good does not nullify his statement one bit
You don’t get to say ALL video game music pre-2008 is rock or moody droning and come out unscathed dude.
I can because that's all I see, I don't play weeb shit and many of the old games because zoom zoom zoommy! but anyway, I think that Mick said it perfectly, most games approach soundtrack as if it was a collage of instrument, they add and add instruments until you just hear this undistinguishable noise you will hate after 20 hours of gameplay.
>Rock is le bad
"People" like you don't deserve to live, since you have no idea what constitutes good or bad in music, and blindly listen to whatever the mass media tells you is "good." Look me in the eye and tell me how anything in modern music can compete with rock from its peak in pre 2008.
I like old rock but it's not the only music I listen to
>nuDoom music
>any good at all
Ha ha, go frick yourself with a cactus.
jrpgs still have great osts
Haha
Xenoblade X was terrible
the city music Black person rap was a sin against JRPG OSTs
Black person rap tracks sucked but the rest of it was good
Well, people infuse their nostalgia when talking about their favorite OSTs. Some of the most recent OST that come to mind as "good" are:
- Atelier Ryza 2
- Furi
- Ace Combat 7
- Hades
- Splatoon 2
- Ys 8
- Cuphead
- Celeste
- Devil May Cry 5 (Vergil's Theme in particular)
- DK Tropical Freeze
- No Straight Roads
- Outer Wilds
To name a few at least (pls don't bully me)
Nah.
The music in Disco Elysium is goat
you all are just not looking hard enough. video game music is great and outclasses movie music for two decades now

Music is actually the least bad thing about modern videogames (and media in general). Unlike art and most other things in vg production nowadays it only takes one great composer to keep the quality up to standard, so it's probably not uncommon for music to be the one redeeming thing about a game.
Not that I've played so many modern games, but the Japanese ones I've played still had good tracks, and I've been hooked on FTL's soundtrack lately (not super recent, though AE was 2014)
... Looking through my games, music prob did peak earlier, it just isn't as big a concern as everything else.
damn argalia sounds nice i love organs
>Resonance of Fate
>Etrian Odyssey IV
>SMT IV Apocalypse
>Sakuna
