Played with a friend last night who had fun leveling with quests. AI voiceover addon probably helped to make it more engaging for mundane fetch and kill quests.

I asked for almost exactly this except one of the core features, the runes. i would have rather they just "balance" hybrids with spec specific tier gear and add more crafted items.
Also they could have just added more class quests with trinkets and consumables as rewards. ie class quests for every class at lvl 15 that gave a trinket with a special effect
Warrior class trinket: when you execute an enemy you restore 10% of your maximum health, cooldown 20 seconds
Rogue trinket: movement speed increased by 100% for 5 seconds when you enter stealth, this bonus is lost when you leave stealth.
boom fresh stuff for classes that is strong but not super OP and helps leveling without breaking the rest of the game too hard.
Some talent rebalancing and moving around would be great too. Doesn't have to be anything insane

For a lot of players the OG WoW was THE fricking game, and most players were really bad at it. How many players have killed The Lich King on Heroic mode before the nerfs? That's right - zero. And how many people experienced the thrill of adventure, partying up, defeating a strong enemy, trial and error, 25-40-man raids full of novice players venturing into the great unknown, guild drama, loot drama, guild politics? 99,9% of the playerbase. But now people have grown up, become better, and new players, who have only heard about the giant, want to try and experience the game how it was back then, because Retail is kind of a mobile game at this point.

SoD is exactly the same as vanilla, but with 1 or 2 new abilities. You still compete with 100 other players for mob tagging, you still have to grind boars until your eyes bleed.
