Brynjolf is built to be likeable but is a boring wet bag, and the Guild Master is an unlikeable c**t. The elf b***h who helps you isn't interesting either. Compare this to:

>mages guild, which has an interesting storyline

Thieves guild is just bland by comparison and tame because all you're doing is thieving instead of adventuring and killing shit.

Its on the same level of shittiness as the bard's college which says a lot since the bard's college is a big fricking nothing.

Skyrim is not an RPG world with people that exist in it and behave logically within it, it is a theme park sandbox world like GTA meant exclusively for the convenience of the player. The faction quests and assorted NPCs are just a set of theme park rides.
Just look at how you can kill the emperor then join the empire and single handely win the civil war for them for the most obvious example

Makes some sense since the Guild back in Morrowind were only really stealing from rich people, their opposition the Camonna Tong were the same kind of mafia thugs that the Riften Guild has become, stealing and beating on poors.
In the same sense, I'd prefer joining the Morag Tong again since the DB are evil edgelords. I like the Morag Tong because they were actually legally sanctioned, you could prevent them from carrying out the hit and even kill them up until they actually do it. As soon as the mark is dead, attacking the assassin is a crime, you present your writ of execution to the guards and walk away free. Yet when they appear in Skyrim's DLC, they're basically just bandits. It's incredibly stupid.
I don't mind having the option to join the DB, I just also want the option to join the Morag Tong, and for these factions to be mutually exclusive like some factions in Morrowind were. Guess it's too much to ask of Todd to make games that are good rather than formulaic crap.
the morag tong was a great bit of worldbuilding that made sense in morrowind's setting, only a place with that level of everyday power struggles would have legally sanctioned assassinations. in skyrim it makes less sense to have that. cyrodiil should have been the most politically volatile place on tamriel but they did absolutely fricking nothing to characterize it as such.

skyrim has an amazing amount of cut content and shortened story lines. the mages guild was the biggest offender for me when i first played. you go from shitkicker novice to full apprentice, skip the mage/teacher stage even though you have an owned bed in their quarters and go straight to archmage.
Fun fact: you can become the Archmage without casting a single spell or even knowing any spells beyond the 2 you have at the start of the game. You just need Peryite's shield.
