I remember when the leader of my runescape clan had to quit, the clan fell apart and the game just wasn't as fun anymore. Then I fell into the Korean MMO rabbit hole, searching for a new game that would stick with me. I have played so fricking many of them, whether it be MMORPGs, FPS, TPS, etc. but none of them stuck with me.
>he didn't move from Korean mmo's into WoW
Other players were like wtf I have to get 10 boar tusks this is bullshit, meanwhile I was conditioned by korean mmo's to think collecting 10,000 was normal so WoW was now the best game in the universe kek
WoW was a fantastic game back then, but I was young and couldn't afford the subscription, so I just played the starter edition and later on the free trail, and leveled a bunch of characters to 20, I loved the exploration and quests
For some reason I have this memory that aion was funded by some retired baseball player who spent his lifes fortune sell funding the game and then went broke but turns out its not true.
I'm so sad nobody got the server data for Valkyrie Sky Online. Hackers ruin everything... >No mention of DFO or Grand Chase, the ones that survived.
Sheeeesh
>a good 70% of the world content was straight up impossible to access. >upgrading has chance to break gear >leveling up to lv 30-31 takes a few weeks, from 31-32 2 months, from 32 to 33 half a year and so on >2 weapons are basically mandatory to play the game as they grant a straight +x% damage to both normal attacks and skills, they are the only weapons worth using from lv 25 to max level >make them ultra-bullshit rare drops from 2 enemy types in the entire game >powering up skills takes exponentially more of the same items and has a good 95% chance of failing
>DFO >DNest >Metin2 >Kritika Online >Soulworker
I didn't realize gear upgrades with really high fail states was a thing so rampant in Kslop. >Worst part is, you have to take part in the gambling at the bare minimum for your weapon, or be banned/blacklisted from endgame raids.
Fu-fun...
>Why make effort and animations when people will spend thousands of dollars on rigged slot machines with Live2D girl payouts?! >WHAT'S THAT? CREATIVELY OUT OF IDEAS? CHRISTMAS TITTY, VALENTINES CHOCOLATE TITTY, SUMMER TITTY, KOREAN wiener GARGLING FESTIVAL DAY TITTY.
God. I wish I thought of that first. What a scam.
Around 2004-2010, I might have tried every beta for all the Korean and Chinese slop mmorpgs that was being ported to the West.
The memories.
Still, stuck playing a few of them for quite some years, like Mabinogi and Lineage2.
>Maple Story 2 >No life losers dominate content and endgame >THIS FLOOR COVERED IN SPIKES AND RUSTY NAILS IS TOO SOFT >Game flops >Shortstack bunny waifus lost forever
KMMOs not named Dragon's Nest suck massive wiener
People say gacha, but that was long after their death.
The real killer was the rise of MOBAs and Riot dumping tons of money into the scene. Almost every studio working on an MMO was told by investors/executives to scrap the MMORPG mechanics and rework the assets into a MOBA. There's a whole graveyard of dead KR only MOBAs out there from that decade.
It's why the few actual MMORPGs that didn't buckle got so much attention.
Yeah it was basially ASShomosexualS -> Hero shooters -> Battle royale with an undercurrent of gachashit in the middle
All of those were simply less effort to get running than an MMO too
They were killed by extremely low effort gacha games targeting the Chinese market.
If you thought Korean MMOs were bad or P2W, try playing the games that 10 year old Chinese kids play.
at least gachas respect your time, you log in 5 minutes a day. Meanwhile Lost Ark used to be a fulltime job until the playerbase got so bad they had to cut out dailies
Rakion is the korean MMO that i loved the most. Current rakion is soulless and became a chink mobile game but luckily there's a peruvian private server that runs a patch before the disaster of evo classes.
They are still being released but as expected they are dogshit gacha games purely devised to maximize micro transactions as Korean MMOs always were about so people stopped caring.
I miss the late 2000s and early 2010s when a new MMO released every other week.
I remember when the leader of my runescape clan had to quit, the clan fell apart and the game just wasn't as fun anymore. Then I fell into the Korean MMO rabbit hole, searching for a new game that would stick with me. >downloading a random game off random list off MMORPG.com or some common derivative
never again ;_;
The memories..

They became gachas instead.
They realized gachas are more profitable and easier to make.
For some reason I have this memory that aion was funded by some retired baseball player who spent his lifes fortune sell funding the game and then went broke but turns out its not true.
that was kingdoms of amalur. Hilarious story.
You're thinking of Kingdoms of Amalur.
That's Kingdom of Amaleur
Man Aion was so good
I'm so sad nobody got the server data for Valkyrie Sky Online. Hackers ruin everything...
>No mention of DFO or Grand Chase, the ones that survived.
Sheeeesh
Uh, Aktually, Grand Chase didn't so much 'sur'vive as it was 're'vived
someone tell me metin2 is dead

This right here is the sole reason I stopped playing Korean games.

People realized they were grindy pay to win garbage and lost interest?
they are made for money
if players complain about p2w all the time
they can't make their investment back as easily
so nobody will fund them
it's pretty easy really isn't it
Hi guys, this is Omer from MMOHut.com and I'm doing a 1st impression of [insert game]
Koreans moved on to gacha slop and realized that big titty waifus you have to gamble for are infinitely more cost effective.
>Why make effort and animations when people will spend thousands of dollars on rigged slot machines with Live2D girl payouts?!

gachashit took over

>Mabinogi
I'm excited for the UE5 remake
I played Fiesta Online for longer than most of the random games I tried around then
The big group quests were kinda novel at the time

Dragon's Nest sucked quite a large dick as well

I remember playing Eden Eternal beta and having a good time
How did these terrible predatory games always have such great music?
Composers aren't held back by whatever absurd cash shop israeliteery was going on
Swear to god
>Dungeon&Fighter
>La Tale
>(Not MMOs but Korean) Gunz: The Duel, S4 League
Games might be potentially shit but the JAMS ARE A LOCK
archeage is still the best mmo imo. has almost complete features for pvp and pve. fricking labor system ruined it
You excited for Archeage 2?
not really, it looks like bdo clone to me.

those were good times

BABY COME BACK I MISS YOU

Gacha happened.
I'd rather play Chinese F2P Gacha games than Korean games that have rental microtransactions and sell inventory space.
nothing? they still dominate the market
>BDO
>LA
>T&L soon
They are still being released but as expected they are dogshit gacha games purely devised to maximize micro transactions as Korean MMOs always were about so people stopped caring.
