I'm 500xp away from lvl5. I think there's nothing left to get xp from except a few goblins in the goblin camp. Should I just start going to the next area even though it tells me I'm under leveled?

If you get stuck there's always the possibility to respec the characters with good stats. I think I'm going to do this, following a guide online. For example making Shart a paladin or a monk makes her more powerful than cleric I've read somewhere.
To kill the mommy spider I used Shart, Karlach and Laezel. Use the environment, you can burn or cut the webs to kill the baby spiders that would walk on it. Heal, buff, spread your team, beware the acid, kill the babies because they're easy to kill but can do big damage. In theory you can quickly kill the babies then the mommy becomes easier 4v1.
Thos game is so piss easy that it doesn't matter, even on tactician.
I don't know if it gives you more exp on hard or something but if you do most of the shit in the game you'll end up in act 3 at max level long before the end of the game.

Have you finished the quest pertaining to the old hag and the girl who disappeared?
If so then you pretty much did everything in the zone. I suggest you take the underground path because the zone across the bridge is not necessarily high-level but it's going to be tough. The underground is a bit easier, at least for me, if you can handle the Bulettes.

The strategy is when the ground starts shaking, you spread your team the most possible, careful not to place one too close to the void. Once the Bulette is out of the ground, it's pretty easy to get rid of it. Shart has an acid spell, you can use acid arrows, do big damage... The problem is it's hard to kill the Bulette because at low HP it runs away.
I took Shart, Karlach and Laezel with me but when the Bulette came out of the ground it pushed Karlach into the void, but we managed the Bulette with just Shart, Laezel and I. 3v1 is possible in terms of damage.
You can do it. I found it easier than crossing the bridge. After that, the Underdark is pretty chill, but not always so be careful.
