I never played a Sonic game besides Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, but I thought it was shit.

Not to mention it's a pain to go back and redo one
Sonic fans are just delusional and have never played a halfway decent platformer like N++, Dustforce, or Super Meat Boy. The platforming in Sonic Mania is barebones, it's more of an adventure game, except that it is very basic in terms of gameplay options and variety.
It might be my new favorite. I'm playing through Encore Mode right now and I think it's the most difficult Sonic I've played.
Incidentally, I like Sonic 2 better than 3&K, but that might be nostalgia.
Game you like /= solid polished experience. Literally every game between S3K and Sonic Mania has massive flaws somewhere in it that either ruins the game or just makes you look like an autist for defending it. The only "major" flaw of Mania is seeing established locations again like that's a problem by itself instead of seeing the levels you grew up with and feel threaten it's not being represented like it's some Smashie tier rosterhomosexualry shit. If every mainline Sonic game was as focused and polished as Mania, Sonic wouldn't be a joke as he's been in so many years. The only game in the past 10 years that's came even 1/4th the qulaity control of Mania was Generations, which many people liked.

Honestly yes, I used to be split between 2 and 3&K but Mania is overall more solid than both.
