As much as everyone shits on Fallout 4 (and the voiced protag), one thing I loved about it was how the protag would cut people off with "Huh..." and "Uh huh..." whenever you opted to skip a line of their dialogue. And Vault Dweller could be literally anybody in the vault since a lottery was involved and you're not even the first person out. It could be you were a rabble rouser that the overseer cheated the lottery to get rid of, it could be that you were genuinely chosen randomly. You could be some old man carrying on the old traditions or some mousey girl who dreamt of things bigger or some punk kid who thrives in the banditry or literally anything so with the single prerequisite of having lived in the vault. 3 and 4 write out your entire fricking backstory that you're supposed to be instead of letting you actually play a role you came up with with a loose enough impetus to let you be a window into the world.
