Feels like this happens a lot, a game seems pretty much unanimously hated in internet discussion then you look at the actual numbers and it's doing great. People try and rationalize it with "Yeah but everybody hates it" or more hilariously "It's not doing as well as it could have", and it's like, do you think the dev cares? They've already singlehandedly funded their next game with this supposedly hated game.

There's no real competition with either. The closest game to Overwatch is APEX which is
      >a BR
      >has such insane aim assist 100% of players at the top level of the game are playing on controller
      >respawn has been outright hostile to anyone who wants modes other than BR or turning off aim assist for competitive mode

Similarly with DBD which is a much worse made game, every other asymmetrical game can't even stay alive for 2 months because they're always doing some gimmick that makes no sense instead of just making DBD's core gameplay but done better and more optimized. I guess MOBAs and platform fighters (Smash Bros) are the same where the ones on top stay on top because there's no real direct competition.

wrong, the original overwatch was a great game up until the release of Ana as a dlc character. That was the point when they stopped understanding how to make good characters that aren't dogshit to balance and to fight against. After that they completely lost the plot and have since tried dozens of different ways to fix the game and not one of them has resulted in a better play experience

    Who are you replying to?

The main issue with OW2's vocal negativity is that there was no way of expressing or providing a metric for that negativity on Battlenet, let alone its forums. I don't use the forums, but I know that the mods there are anal retentive and it would be likely that any criticism has to be sugarcoated and wrapped up in a nice bow. It was never a TORtanic, it was Blizzard reaping what they sow with pandering to esports and no means of hearing "you're fricking up the game" from the fanbase. It doesn't help that the OW2 crowd shares a circle for a Venn diagram with TF2, they just want a casual team shooter but can't seem to move on.

The fact that companies still use meaningless metrics like “active players” to indicate success and media still parrots these figures like they’re newsworthy stories is evidence of how stupid the average person actually is. “Active player” might as well be defined as an account that has logged into the game at least once in the past 36 months, in which case pretty much every popular online game in existence has tens, if not hundreds of millions of “active players”.

  40. 5 months ago

Probably not, I thought the PvE shit in OW1 was awful so when I heard they were making a game around that I thought "Oh no." I think they realized that nobody actually wanted it so that's why they canned it for OW2. The fact that OW2 still ended up sucking is independent of that.

Manipulative title. WoW had over 100 million "active players". It depends on what you consider "active players".

If you want to know the reality, go look at investor meetings, i think they're public. If they lie there, there are legal repercussions. You will see that there they talk about MAUs, Monthly Active Users. If Overwatch2 has 50 million MAUs, then the article title written by that presstitute has merit.

I seriously doubt OW2 has 50 million players logging in every month, maybe overall, across all Activi$$ion-Blizzard games, yes. Only for OW2? Ridiculous. That means that Fortnite and LoL have hundreds of millions of active users.

Fortnite has an in-game player count, there's roughly a million players online at any given time. Meanwhile its active player count is 250 million across 30 days. And that's considered one of the most popular games ever. So yeah, "50 million active players" definitely doesn't mean "50 million players currently online." But considering how much less it is than the active players in Fortnite I could plausibly believe that 50 million players are logging in every month.
