Snow is in fact based my man. People don't realize it at first because Lightning is the protagonist and she doesn't like him, so the player has to see him through her inaccurate lens. The most obvious example is when Lightning accuses Snow of being "all talk". This isn't true at all. Snow lead the escape at the beginning of the game despite not having any formal military training. Lightning is the one that is "all talk", she was an order-follower her whole life and knows how to fight, and she used that ability to oppress people and elevate herself. Not so with Snow.
Lightning is indeed a massive b***h and is angry at Snow for personal reasons but that doesn't mean the guy is perfect. He doesn't think shit through on account of being an idiot, it's a miracle anyone managed to live through that escape at the start of XIII.

The whole point of his character was positivity alone does not solve your problems. You need to be smart to figure out and confront your problems, not just gun jump them in fist fights at every possible turn and get more people killed in the process.

No an army deciding to blow up a fricking bridge to kill a bunch of innocent people did that. Snow and his crew charged the frontlines and he even tried to keep the civilians out of it but some of them volunteered to go with him to help. That was not Snows fault. He blames himself for it but the man realistically did what he could and then some for people who were given a death sentence.

He actually is the only one getting shit done or at least trying when everyone else gives up through the game besides Fang and his positivity is what keeps the group going something they all admit at one point or another. Though he did have to temper it somewhat and show that yes he did have his doubts and fears so he didn't come off as a blind, insensitive idiot and his empathy and positivity comforted and motivated Lightning and Hope who needed it more than anyone else.
at least Snow did something and didn't go quietly into the "exile" that the space pope wanted his 'subjects' to go into.

FF fans don't actually know what they want because they're fragmented. "FF fanbase" does not exist, it's just an illusion because people who liked say only FF7, FF8 and FF10 or only FF6,9 and 12 etc exist and consider themselves FF fans. Each FF is completely different to the next, a bit similar to the one after that and then completely different to the newest one and so on and so forth. So there is never going to be a FF fanbase that will collectively agree on anything unlike other fanbases.
What exists is "FF7 fanbase", "FF10 fanbase", "FF9 fanbase", "FF14 fanbase" etc etc and they all disagree with each other on what they actually want from a FF game.
Some examples on how contradictory this "fanbase" can be.
