I was debating whether or not to use the new translation for a first time playthrough, whats wrong with it?

The retranslation is literal fanfiction. The guy behind it couldn't even read Japanese. He based it on the English version, whatever he could scrounge online about the Japanese script and his own headcanon. It's a terrible idea to use for a first playthrough, and a terrible idea to use for any playthrough since A New Threat is far better for a replay (and honest about what it is, rather than claiming to be le accurate and faithful to the original Japanese). The PC version fixed up the most egregious errors from the original English translation anyway.

+1 for the new threat mod, it's the definitive way to replay the game for me
Because FF7 is a great game at its core but, even at the tail-end of its own generation, didn't age the best (particularly its overworld character models and lack of analog control). Plus its original environments were rich and compelling, and deserve 3D interpretations that could be seen from multiple angles. Is there a reason why there couldn't just be a straightforward remake? This should've been such a straightforward concept but instead the concept of FF7R fell victim to the worst possible convergence of cynical corporate greed AND contemptuous pretentious "artistry".
You really didn't have enough sequels and prequels with the compilation? Why did the Remake have to be turned into another chance to cater to you morons instead?

bitching won't change the fact that the original game is literally available everywhere

and crying about people wanting a less moronic remake won't change the fact that you compilatioBlack folk are spoiled silly
Ever Crisis doesn't even have voice acting. Even just expressive character portraits would have been nice, but no. Not to speak of how the gameplay is literally gacha RPG gameplay from 10 years ago. The game is just a cheap cashgrab
It went into EoS a long time ago.
If you're asking why they didn't attempt to put it on PC before it went into EoS, then I agree.
It was actually a pretty decent BR, sure it wasn't going to be the next Fortnite but you can bet FF fans would have kept it afloat given the chance.
That blatant Fortnite key art ripoff, though. SE has no shame.
The little bit of FF7 story is ok but literally everything else about it is nonsense and loads of superflous junk. Who gives money over for this stuff?
I've heard about that many times in the past and it does make sense, but the problem is this: SE reaching the bottom means they won't have any talent to make FF7 good, it's gonna be yet another squeenix garbage.
And look what we are getting.
>FF7 was always Square's "break the glass in case of emergency" game.
this. It's always been their Trump Card in case shit really got bad. I think they might just now be realizing that they waited too long to reveal their hand, as I don't think it landed quite as well as they hoped it would
FF7 Remake was, in retrospect, more of a litmus test for their AAA output than a trump card. They had a pretty straightforward concept concretely laid out but they just couldn't fricking help themselves from going out of their way to wiener it up massively, and their higher-ups didn't see any issue with this either. This company is a fricking joke.
Mainline FF has been in decline since the merger. First gradual (X-2 and XII are still good games) but XIII, XV, and XVI really damaged the brand’s image to the point that FF is just a series that’s “there” and no longer a cultural phenomenon.
Now all Square has to keep the brand afloat is keeping people playing XIV and baiting with VII’s nostalgia.
Expect an FFIX & X remake announcement in the next few years when the VII cow runs dry
Been playing Ever Crisis on mobile. It's obviously gacha cashgrab shit but I haven't apent a dime and am having fun ripping apart people with Tifa in a "lifeguard" outfit, which is just short shorts and a wet T-shirt over a bikini.
I don't see the appeal of bringing it to steam; mobile games main grab is you can do it on the go or at work or whatever, but to each their own.
>purist
I love how you think this is somehow a term that can carry negative connotations on fricking Ganker of all places. Maybe r/gaming is more your speed. or better yet, r/gamingcirclejerk.
>be Square Enix >in bed with Sony >make FF7R but keep it off Steam for 2 years like a good slave >bombs on Steam >make first soldier, a mobileshit FF7-themed battle royale >don't bother porting it to consoles OR steam >it dies >try again with Ever Crisis >doing well >port it to Steam first instead of PS4/PS5
Now I don't have a horse in this console race but surely porting games simultaneously to both platforms would be the wise choice, yeah? Well if this is what the new president CEO guy is doing then at least it's a step in the right direction.
>try again with Ever Crisis >doing well >port it to Steam first instead of PS4/PS5
give them credit anon, at least they're planning to add it to multiple platforms now instead of just letting it die on mobile
Yeah, with console timed exclusives, you know Sony or Nintendo or Microsoft are paying for it. But this is coming to Steam first, and Valve doesn't pay for jack shit. Are they "testing the waters" on PC for the 10th year in a row or some shit? This is Shatlus tier moronation kek.
It's a retelling of VII, CC and First Soldier with gacha shit and wave based turn based combat. Its not a full retelling, just dangles the highlights so you put money into their gacha
I assume the goal is to just add to it then with Rebirth/Rehash assets later on. Piecemeal it, like one update would be Kalm to Marsh. Then Mithril Cave is its own update. Then road to junon, then junon etc
This company deserves a fire so big that it makes KyoAni look like a controlled boy-scout cookout.
F
>microtransanctions
>mobile shit UI
>flat and gray nu-art
yeah, frick Square-Enix.
They fricked up the remake AND the remaster.
is there a reason why you can’t just play the OG?
Is there a reason Square can't just make a faithful re-release that's not an episodic Ubishit-lite, or a mobile cashgrab with Gatcha gimmicks?
Yes, they have no talent.
nta but i can list a few

>straightforward remake
I don't think you understand what a remake is, nor are you capable of describing what that would look like
Not having the plot go in a radically different direction or involve fricking time ghosts. That seems like a pretty goddamn easy place to start.
buddy, go play the original
You really didn't have enough sequels and prequels with the compilation? Why did the Remake have to be turned into another chance to cater to you morons instead?
bitching won't change the fact that the original game is literally available everywhere
and crying about people wanting a less moronic remake won't change the fact that you compilatioBlack folk are spoiled silly
you're deluded. Mods like New Threat make the OG game fun to go back for for replays even now
I played the original for the first time last year, it aged really well
Can't shove gacha into the original.
Ever Crisis doesn't even have voice acting. Even just expressive character portraits would have been nice, but no. Not to speak of how the gameplay is literally gacha RPG gameplay from 10 years ago. The game is just a cheap cashgrab
why wouldnt it be
Oh boy, more Nomuramobile slop that will get shut down within a fricking year,
why this shit but not first soldier?
squenix is goddamn moronic
>first soldier?

It was really nice having a br with melee abilities, guns, and magic. Real sick of this genre only sticking to guns.
The little bit of FF7 story is ok but literally everything else about it is nonsense and loads of superflous junk. Who gives money over for this stuff?
why are there so many final fantasy 7 games all of a sudden
FF7 was always Square's "break the glass in case of emergency" game.
I've heard about that many times in the past and it does make sense, but the problem is this: SE reaching the bottom means they won't have any talent to make FF7 good, it's gonna be yet another squeenix garbage.

Multiple large scale flops across their hd and mobile divisions

'ick on 'eck poster is the target audience
I don't see the appeal of playing games on your phone either
I will be able to mod these outfits or better without dealing with the gacha to get them
if (You) haven't just modded PC FF7 with 7th Heaven yet, (You) deserve every bit of this mobileslop
I like this outfit better than anything she wore in the OG, CC, AC or Remake.
>I have shit taste
who asked
that outfit does look sick, still not playing your shitty gacha game though 🙂
hope some of those outfits get ported to VIIR
>purists still having a whinge

why does pushback annoy you so much? Ganker isn't your fricking hugbox.
stop crying

So is it the full FF7 story or just a retelling of FF7 Remake but with a gacha shit and ATB-based combat
That seems to be the format
Hope it works on steam deck. My phone is shit.
looks like squeenix learned their lesson with ff16
I am fricking tired of ff7
It'll be over by 2030. Until then, enjoy 6 more spinoffs and maybe an animation or two. Maybe a new CGI movie.
>Maybe a new CGI movie.
Oh boy, I can't wait for the Advent Children sequel, Lent Adults.
