There's no real defensive options so you have to cheese the game on the hardest difficulty by spamming your Limit Break. The upgrade system is no fun and adds unnecessary parts to an already working system. There is a severe lack of side contents and no real reason to replay the game. And it kept the wacky shit that no one really cared about while destroying the atmosphere of the world by prettifying everything and the mystique of the mystery that is Sephiroth by shoving him in your face. The game itself is a nice addition to the original, but it falls so far short of matching it.
It'd be fine if they kept the midgar part for at most 10 hours and then spent the remainder of the 20+ hours in the actual world.
The fact they're planning on making this a trilogy shows how padded out all the content is and that's its basically a nostalgia cashgrab at an international level.

Spiderman Homecoming isn't a sequel to Spiderman 3 just because they exist in different timelines in the same universe. It's funny, as an old OGgay the one thing I expected the Remake to fail to deliver on seeing what they did with the Compilation was doing the characters justice, and it actually nailed it.
Nothing they did seemed out of character, and even the character moments they added that weren't present in the OG made sense.
Plot might have gotten different by the end and it'll probably get even worse in Part 2, but damn did it deliver on the character moments.

Well the new shit like Sephiroth hallucinations are pretty cringeworthy, but they don't ruin my enjoyment. It's only the obvious padding bits that are just kinda low quality and I hope they don't make up 50% of the game.

it's pretty on-par with the cross-dressing side quests from the OG and also that's what you're doing here too
There aren't a lot of sidequests in total. You get one batch of mostly bad quests to do with Tifa, and one with Aerith. Doing all the quests with either of the girls gets you a little romance scene with them and helps determine which of them gets another later on. There's a third batch of sidequests towards the end, but those are generally better.
I didn't mind the sidequests, but there is some real padding in the Reactor 5 bombing mission. That's the low point of the game IMO, that and the dumb parts of the final chapters.

There's a lot left to be desired with the remake, but they knocked it out of the park with aerith. Holy shit between the character design, voice actor, and personality they managed to make a likeable character loveable.

It's funny, as an old OGgay the one thing I expected the Remake to fail to deliver on seeing what they did with the Compilation was doing the characters justice, and it actually nailed it.
Nothing they did seemed out of character, and even the character moments they added that weren't present in the OG made sense.
Plot might have gotten different by the end and it'll probably get even worse in Part 2, but damn did it deliver on the character moments.
OGgays are the only ones who realize remake is great, anyone shitposting is a jimbo tier schizoid. The fact that an OG fan would complain about a game purely about Midgar is fricking ridiculous, it was my wet dream as a kid to explore Midgar even more, and remake literally delivered exactly that.
As someone who put 3 hours into the PC version so far; The faithful parts are absolutely mind-blowingly good.
However the blatant padding parts are honestly pretty awful. I haven't beat the game yet obviously so whether or not I love the game comes down to how the ratio between the two is.

Well the new shit like Sephiroth hallucinations are pretty cringeworthy, but they don't ruin my enjoyment. It's only the obvious padding bits that are just kinda low quality and I hope they don't make up 50% of the game.

it's pretty on-par with the cross-dressing side quests from the OG and also that's what you're doing here too
There aren't a lot of sidequests in total. You get one batch of mostly bad quests to do with Tifa, and one with Aerith. Doing all the quests with either of the girls gets you a little romance scene with them and helps determine which of them gets another later on. There's a third batch of sidequests towards the end, but those are generally better.
I didn't mind the sidequests, but there is some real padding in the Reactor 5 bombing mission. That's the low point of the game IMO, that and the dumb parts of the final chapters.

The most soulless shit ever is playing a game with a crappy dub over the original performance, especially when said original performance is top notch cause it uses the same experienced, talented VAs who've been voicing these characters for the past 17 years and know them like the back of their hand. Aerith's VA is literally crushing it every scene she's in, even when she's dealt stupid lines about time ghost shit, she's just that fricking good.
Unlike the soulless English cast, they were hand picked by the guy who created these characters to begin with as to make sure they would be perfect matches. A far cry from the dub which doesn't even care about keeping consistency between each game cause the VAs are just dispensable hired guns.

Biggest gripe with Part 1 is the way they lied about 'expanding Midgar'. Yes they did pad the Midgar events, but they certainly didn't expand Midgar itself, cause we see nothing more than in the OG.
Pic related had potential but it's barely 5mins before a linear section and you never actually get to explore the Upper Plate.
They had one game worth of time and content to expand on Midgar and they barely gave us anything new.
