What's wrong with the expert grid? The game expects you to grind anyway for superbosses, might as well try something different. Not like you have to do them.
Some textures here and there have been upgraded for the remaster but overall the original on PCSX2 is still overall much better looking with facial expression and better colors.
I was planning on playing the remaster, but this thread convinced me to play in the emulator.
It also occurred to me that I can just copy the save to my phone and play there if I wanted to.

A major selling point of the game when it released decades ago was how good it looks, a remaster that makes it look worse doesn't even deserve to be called a remaster. They really fricked that up. And yeah if I remember right you can't skip the cutscenes but they are important.
I have no nostalgia for X. I played it for the first time a few years ago. I actually downloaded the HD Remaster first because I often don't care about autistic quibbling. I played for maybe an hour, thought "eh it doesnt look great but I mean its from 2001". Then I looked up footage of the original and released oh actually this game looks fricking great the remaster is just actually that bad. Its not notable in every scene but it fricking destroys the emotional impact the game has overall. I ended up playing through the international version on pcsx2 (I wanted japanese VA and this version has an option for that) and I had a great time with it. Emulation isn't perfect but nothing was anywhere near as bad as whatever the frick they did to the face animations, models, hair, backgrounds, and cutscenes. Its an insane downgrade and the only people who defend it are working off of old memory, assuming the game originally looked worse than it does.
There is a mod that attempts this but it doesn't actually fix things like facial expressions and things like that. Its just the closest they can get but it still looks like shit.

I wish the pixel remasters of 1-6 had added voice acting. I cant play any of the old pre 10 FF games due to no voice acting. It makes it impossible to care about anything happening as I cant connect with the characters without hearing their voices.
You shouldn't play any FF game after 7. They're all a complete mess and do not represent the series at all. They might as well not be called "Final Fantasy" at all.

Yes the PS2 version has better faces but its not that big of a deal. Just play steam version.
