Wasn't the hardest or best Pokemon game, but that atmosphere is unmatched, the sprites and music were perfect imo. Kind of sucks a lot of the neat Pokemon aren't available until late in the game though.
Not really, the sprites we're not as cool, and the coloring in particular was weird. The music was good though, and I love those games a lot, but on just atmosphere I gotta give it to gen 2.
Gen 3 was probably the peak of the series though. Not to mention coliseum, that game is soulful as frick.
Gen 3 would be perfect if it had the physical / special split. That's when the main mechanics of the series were finally ironed out, everything since then like mega forms are just FOMO meta things.
