The rules need explaining better, but when you look into them using FAQs, you'll find that the game contains an absolutely massive RNG element which makes it fricking awful to play even once you understand it well. There are mods to remove the RNG on PC and it makes the game so much more fun.

There's really no way to integrate Amano's massive detail into 3D cel shading without making the viewers eye bleed from trying to find a focal point. Paintings can be enjoyed while you slowly work out the structure of the image; moving animation not so much.
Eiko and Amarant are awful. You can't even tell that's Eiko without contextual information.
Vivi's angle is bad so it looks like he's wearing a helmet. Otherwise he's mostly ok.

The problem is that the newer versions of the game keep the same low-res backgrounds but increase the polygon count of the foreground models, which creates a clash of graphics that doesn't blend in well at all.

I'd make that Power Throw basically be like Freya's High Jump trance, just without the ability to stay in the air and rain down destruction. They'd probably want to rework her trance ability if they did that. Give Eiko and Garnet a duo summon, have it always play the full (skippable) animation and deal even more damage than the usual full animation version, maybe even break damage cap, as well as the ability to summon Alexander using it.
They both say the same thing, just differently. The one on the right is closer to dialogue that I believe Zidane would actually have in his head, not the melodramatic fluff on the left. Localizers did a good job with this one.

These are some reasonable changes to make the dialogue flow better in English. Japanese is infamous for lacking ways to convey emotion. It's just a stiff, literal language when spoken in conversation. It's a major reason why Japanese mannorisms have to be so excessive because their language simply can't get across the full emotional intention.
I want Lindblum and Alexandria to be huge cities with lot's of added content. The music must some sort of remaster that only uses the PSX music software but in higher quality. No remake of the music because Nobuo was a genius and his work should be respected.

I used this for the steam deck, it's some mod that lets you choose what you want to use (new music, new models, etc) and combine it however you want. 60 fps and hd backgrounds and models is glorious though sometimes I choose the old character models for nostalgia

By upscaling the backgrounds, the already more "clearly" defined character polygons stand out LESS, since the background becomes more clear and distracting.
It's a very common problem similar to comparing games developed for CRT television sets which are then ported to LCD or Steam re-master/emulation bullshit.

FF9 is my favorite game of all time (yep, I'm Mr. Based) and I'm really curious how they're gonna tackle this, especially the scope/budget. It's obviously not gonna get the FF7R treatment, but it has to look better than Trials of Mana, otherwise what's the point.
They need to fix the slow battles and maybe the trance system. Tetra Master should get an overhaul as well. Other than that, there's nothing they absolutely have to change. That being said, I'd be down with some drastic changes like action combat or a fully 3D modelled game. It would be exciting to experience the world of FF9 in a different way.

The rules need explaining better, but when you look into them using FAQs, you'll find that the game contains an absolutely massive RNG element which makes it fricking awful to play even once you understand it well. There are mods to remove the RNG on PC and it makes the game so much more fun.

There's really no way to integrate Amano's massive detail into 3D cel shading without making the viewers eye bleed from trying to find a focal point. Paintings can be enjoyed while you slowly work out the structure of the image; moving animation not so much.

More the fact that nobody at SE bothered to keep and archive the original artworks, all they had was the game files.
IIRC for Kingdom Hearts remaster they actually had to rebuild the game from the retail discs because they "lost" the Master.
The problem is that the newer versions of the game keep the same low-res backgrounds but increase the polygon count of the foreground models, which creates a clash of graphics that doesn't blend in well at all.

I'd make that Power Throw basically be like Freya's High Jump trance, just without the ability to stay in the air and rain down destruction. They'd probably want to rework her trance ability if they did that. Give Eiko and Garnet a duo summon, have it always play the full (skippable) animation and deal even more damage than the usual full animation version, maybe even break damage cap, as well as the ability to summon Alexander using it.

These are some reasonable changes to make the dialogue flow better in English. Japanese is infamous for lacking ways to convey emotion. It's just a stiff, literal language when spoken in conversation. It's a major reason why Japanese mannorisms have to be so excessive because their language simply can't get across the full emotional intention.

They're not usually suitable in that format and for me it's either you replace every single track, including the mostly unused ones, or you replace none. FFVII is notorious for having quite a few BGM "mods" and honestly all of them are dogshit.

By upscaling the backgrounds, the already more "clearly" defined character polygons stand out LESS, since the background becomes more clear and distracting.
It's a very common problem similar to comparing games developed for CRT television sets which are then ported to LCD or Steam re-master/emulation bullshit.

It's all underwriting for the main story line which isn't exposed till the rnd of disc 2, and even then that's just foreshadowing for the unveiling at very last part of disc 4
not really. i mean yeah its setting up later parts but almost all of 9 is important in some way and interesting things are happening throughout the entire game.
i can think of the forced card game session being the only really oblivious filler part but also that part in the caves where you climb and ride bugs fricking sucks. its not really filler, but i wouldn't mind that whole dungeon being snipped.
