Midgar is kind of depressing and the soul and story really shines once you leave that city.

Square doing it in this day and age means action combat, which means you have to find a way to adapt X's original battle system to action combat, like VII did with ATB. But unlike VIIR, X was fully turn-based, so I don't know how you replicate the turn-based system where you could get more turns with higher speed into action combat. They could make it play like VIIR, but I feel that that's a missed opportunity.
Also, one of X's party members is literally based around being able to summon on command, how do you implement that in a balanced way? Are the Aeons controllable?
Yeah I guess it still has more control. I don't think it's impossible that we could control a summon directly though if they put a lot of development into it. Yuna disappears and you control the summon along with two other party members, maybe.
I don't know if the idea of a real time FFX is that great anyway since it was just strictly a turn based game. Running around mashing square in FF7R is like ACTIVE in the original and opening the menu is like WAIT. There is no ACTIVE in FFX.

If you really think about it, you have about as much control of a summon in FF7R than you do in FFX.
