Final Fantasy XV

Huh. It actually wasn't that bad.
It's definitely massively incomplete and it took me a whole year to clear it because I took long breaks but finishing it off I actually enjoyed some of the cinematic moments near the end.

I played it day one as well and the Royal edition changes really fricking helped.

I've only played royal edition. It's broken. You come with the best sword in the game at the start. Also there's a FF14 area with a boss that you can grind to max level with in a few hours.

Ngl I'm debating on reading the book to close it off but reception is very mixed on it. I think Ignis alt ending is a much better palette finisher. I like to imagine Noct fricked the shit outta iris and got over Luna in that universe.

        Anonymous

the Ignis alt ending is nice fan service but to treat it like its the real ending is pretty shit, it was clearly done to scale back on their original bummer ending
the game needed a LOT more middle content, we got front and back content instead

I treat it more as a golden epilogue. I know people get autistic about it when they have a Hollywood ending when everyone's happy again but it does feel somewhat cool to know in one timeline everything's still kinda fricked but alright. I agree though. You can tell they were planning some world of ruin type stuff after chapter 9 but it failed.

        >Ngl I'm debating on reading the book
just get a pdf and read episodes Aranea and Luna since they're semi-canon and expand on both their characters while providing their inner-monologue which is really interesting. Aranea's reminiscing about the Empire's good old days and her hatred of Ardyn and Luna hating the shit out of being an oracle because it's the most insanely difficult occupation in the world while struggling forward because of her sense of duty is great to read

episode Ardyn is exactly the same as the game and episode Noctis is fanfic-tier garbage

The main villain filtered me. I can't get invested enough to hate him. Furthermore I was looking into having Lunafreya in my party because she looked cool only to get the dissapointing "plot twist" at the middle and that was my final straw and dropped it.

Sucks too because it started really really comfy, just some dudebros hanging and having a good time. They should have kept the tone instead of going full emo

Gnosticism is a somewhat obscure religion that basically says the god who created the material world and humans is a false god called the demiurge, and that we need to reach the real God by transcending our plane of existence (the matrix, basically) and piercing through our false existence. A lot of JRPGs do use themes of Gnosticism, but not all of them. And some people just see a game that depicts gods or religion in a somewhat negative or grey light and think "Whoa duuude, this is like totally Gnosticism!! God is actually le evil duuuude!" It's honestly cringe how seriously people take it, though it does make for cool storytelling and themes when it's actually used.

It doesn't. That was my point. I was criticizing the other anon for seeing shit that isn't there. A lot of JRPGs do use Gnostic themes, but XV is not one of them. Xenoblade, as this anon explained

That's a reductivist perception of gnosticism.
First of all, the Demiurge is not God, Gnosticism explicitly differentiates between the Demiurge and God, the Demiurge is the being that controls the material, or rather, shapes the material to prevent mankind from reaching the world of ideas, where the real God exists.
Second, not all interpretations of Gnosticism establish the Demiurge as inherently evil, take Xenoblade for example, each Xenoblade game has one or more Demiurges, but only one of them is outright malignant, Zanza, and he is immediately contrasted with the benevolent Meyneth.
Xenoblade 2 has the Architect who is well-meaning but has become despondent due to the new humanity he created still fostering wars and lusting for power over others.
Xenoblade 3 again contrasts Z, who technically means well but is completely psychotic due to his crippling fear of abandoning the Endless Now, with A, the avatar of the world.

uses Gnostic themes. He actually explained Gnosticism way better than I did.

based fujimoto with the versus reference

they spent like 2-3 years patching it with free content and giving it dlc
Then cancelled planned DLC when they realized that the return on their investment to save FFXV's image wasn't doing as good as they hoped
Won't happen, PC version remains the best version

      Anonymous

I think the shift to XVI was a way of leaving 2010's SE in the past, this applies to XIII which is either getting a remaster pretty soon or never getting it. XV does run at 4K/60 on the PS5, so there's that.

        Anonymous

XV DOES NOT run at 4k 60 on PS5. It runs through the PS4 Pro backcompat settings which I believe are either (via the graphics modes available)
        900p x 60 FPS (drops very rarely)
        1080p x 30 FPS (most stable mode)
1440p-1800p via checkerboard rendering @ 30fps (has massive stuttering and microstuttering issues and looks fricking terrible as a result)

There's also a bug specifically running FFXV on PS5 involving the textures constantly reloading, so any scene where you're talking to someone or up close to a model in say a cutscene, you can notice the textures fade out then reload every couple of seconds

            >Anyhow, the PC port is terrible
If you're using a PC acquired during the PS4's reign, yeah
It has it's small share of problems like how it supports only version 1.0 of DLSS, but it also has lots of pc exclusive graphical options if you have an nvidia gpu to make it look pretty amazing even today
The PC version USED to be bad after they updated the game with that online avatar feature, but players realized it caused massive hangs in performances and sometimes crashes, so they actually reverted it the patch. It's fine now

The bros are probably the best part of the whole game, Gladio kinda goes downhill after his sidequest given how b***hy he gets but Ignis and Prompto get much better after their roles get expanded, Ignis' sacrifice and Prom's backstory should have been in the main game, Noctis isn't really as whiny or annoying as people make him out to be, at no point does he reject his duty, mostly he's just bland because he doesn't have a lot going apart from his glacial relationship with Lunafreya.
The real issue is the story and how it is written, the game expects you to have watched the prequel movie so it immediately assaults you with a cutscene and a ton of terminology that won't make a lick of sense if you haven't and it never really bothers to explain any of it, even location names like Insomnia and Tenebrae are thrown around willynilly without any explanation as to what each of them mean.
Also, progression is really wonky, not only do objectives change randomly whenever you come accross something new but it feels like the characters are just stumblind into major quests instead of having them organically arise, the way the game shifts from finding the tombs and the kings' weapons to finding the summon spirits is particularly jarring, you spend the first few hours thinking that collecting the weapons and reclaiming the capital will be the main quest, but then arrive at the city of bulldykes and randomly encounter Ifrit and now this is the main quest and the game just relegates the weapons to sidequests.
And of course there's the "Hold X to win" gameplay, the empty map and the sporadic sidequests, you can play the pocket version on your phone or Switch and legit miss on nothing of value other than the Terra Wars DLC.

The best and comfies part of the game was by far the first couple of hours when it's just a gang of bros fricking around in the desert with their busted car, and that's legit what the entire game should have been about. I couldn't give less of a shit about Ardyn, the royal blood, the 10 year time-skip and all that bullshit.

finding out that was the only actual world map really killed the game for me. the game managed to emulate the more boring parts of a road trip by making the road stops 90% gas stations.

I feel like the Ardyn downfall didn't end so well. He seemed to have done a 180 in not really caring about Somnus descendents to BURN INSOMNIA DOWN. I think the first attack to Insomnia was kinda a bad plot point. It should've taken place on the actual fall of Insomnia.

Now I can't unsee it. For frick sakes man. Why? She's like the only non-frog, non-red, non-murderous psycho women in the party.

You think Regis or Noctis could just talk Ardyn down?

      >Why was Somnus such a dick and entrapping Ardyn for thousands of years?
probably did it on Bahamut's orders

      >You think Regis or Noctis could just talk Ardyn down?
doubt it because Ardyn would see them as mindless puppets of Bahamut
