Finally got off my ass and learned how to solder so I'm playing some Crystal recently. You know that fricking pointless "feature" on the GBA that makes the game look like shit? Would have been nice if there was an option to use it as an A button to play Crystal with peak comfy. That got me to thinking... is it actually possible to force this? To just make the L button input as A every time? I know this is basically mutilating the GBA but I play GBA games on the DS Lite like a chad so who gives a shit. Has anyone done something stupid like this before to reference?

I have no idea what you're talking about.
When you're playing a Game Boy game, you can press L to make the game look like shit by stretching it out to fill the screen horizontally. See the image.
kek, that's exclusively how i play them
what kind of jerk off thinks full screen ""looks like shit"" god damn, kys
Bro have a nice day if you dont play GBC games like your uncle playing his NES composite on an HD TV stretched to 16:9
i told you homosexuals, kys
Disgusting. I didn't even do that as a child.
>kek, that's exclusively how i play them
This. It looks like ass when it's small.
>turns on ugly emulator filter in your path
bait
Why? Do you enjoy the tiny window more?
>what, do you actually LIKE the game looking how it's supposed to? what are you, some kind of homosexual??
I'd take playable over "how the developers intended", thanks
I literally have autism and "BORDERS? perish the thought!" is a new low from my perspective
It's just too small to enjoy, maybe if you emulate but a real GBA screen is tiny to begin with
I get the logical side of it but GBA isn't exactly optimal for playing GB games either which way. Just giving you the raw resolution of the GB with this stupid L/R switch was probably the best they could do at that point and it's not the worst solution. Every game could look like blurry garbage. At least this way it's still pixel-perfect
>stretched unnaturally wide
>playable
Also your argument doesn't even hold up on a technical level because even with 1:1 pixel ratio the visible screen area for GB(C) games on the GBA is larger than on the GB and GBC.
>even with 1:1 pixel ratio the visible screen area for GB(C) games on the GBA is larger than on the GB and GBC.
Bait or just moronic
>with 1:1 pixel ratio the visible screen area for GB(C) games on the GBA is larger than on the GB and GBC.
???

>2.6 inch
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Advance
>2.9 inch
the difference is totally 0.3 inches anon 😉
Well fugg, I stand corrected. Now I remember why I didn't grow fonder of the idea of getting a GBA to play GBC games. I did the calculation before, I just remembered it the wrong way around.
Sorry but i am a tiny window enjoyer c:
>even with 1:1 pixel ratio the visible screen area for GB(C) games on the GBA is larger than on the GB and GBC
The viewing area is slightly larger than a GB screen, but smaller than GBC.
Is this bait? Even as a fricking 8 year old child I could tell that stretching a game to twice its width looks like vomit. Are you in the mental level of a 3 year old?
zoomies, zoomies everywhere
Rulechange was a mistake
I actually have a hard time seeing the non stretched screen, my eyes ain't what they used to be
I was in my late 20's when the GBA came out and grew up with the GB
That doesn't look like Crystal to me.
Regardless, I've never heard of anyone doing that.
You could cut the traces to the L button and rewire the button to activate the same pads as the A button. But you'd lose the L button for GBA games.
Anything GB/C specific would require modifying and rewriting the firmware itself, and you're not doing that.
>But you'd lose the L button for GBA games.
I'm prepared to do what needs to be done
>You could cut the traces to the L button and rewire the button to activate the same pads as the A button
That doesn't sound too complicated
Shot in the dark and the actual know-how is over my head, but could the switch that's used to trigger GBC mode be used to temporarily make L act like A?
Any GBA is an uncomfy way to play GBC games because the cartridge sticking out is an eyesore
Most games run fine on goomba.
Extremely unwell thread
I agree, someone should just tell me what to do to map L to A. I'll post the results.
Oh nice, that GBA is the identical twin of my own.
One way to do it would be to rewrite the bios so that in GB mode, L didn't stretch and just duplicated the A input.
On real hardware, that would like require new bios chip to flash to, and then desoldering the chip and replacing it with this new bios chip that is miraculously the right size and pin out.
The BIOS isn't responsible, it's a hardware feature. The BIOS is on the CPU die anyway, you can't replace it.
Why would playing with one hand on a lopsided console like this be more comfortable?
Unless you're playing one of those waifumon mods and shoving your other hand down your pants.
>Why would playing with one hand on a lopsided console like this be more comfortable?
Why do I need to dedicate both hands to play a game where you literally only use the D-Pad and 1 button for 99% of it
Buy a cheap chink portable emulator my homie
Whats the point of using real hardware if you don't want real hardware? Especially with a spreadsheet menu navigator like pokemon where timing does not matter.
Black person wtf are you even talking. If you don't want fullscreen gba just don't run it in that mode. Or buy a modded GBC or whatever.
>>this thread
yeah, you could probably use a simple and gate (smd quad AND package) to do this. you would need to cut a trace, but you wouldnt be losing any functionality. why not add an external gameport on it so you can play with something like a nunchuck?
so much cancer in this thread... playing GBA on ds lite, stretching out Gameboy games on GBA, etc etc
>so much cancer in this thread... playing GBA on ds lite
What is cancer about playing GBA games in one of the best ways you could play them? I'd genuinely like to know what would make you or anyone shit on "playing GBA games on DS Lite" in the same breath talking about the total moronation of stretching out a Game Boy game on Advance
Oh fricking no there's a little ghosting, I'm miserable thinking about it now
The dpad is mushy trash and there's a stutter since the refresh rate mismatches.
