Played through Golden Wildfire and got burnt out halfway through Azure Gleam. I prefer how Fates made it an interesting strategy getting abilities compared to how Houses only asks you get either Death / Darting / Fiendish Blow, or Vantage + Wrath to automatically win the game. Figuring out how to give Shiro all of the Seal abilities, or finding ways to give Mozu and Takumi Bowfaire + Tomebreaker, or making Lazlow the ultimate rallybot with all of the Rally skills, made it all a fantastic game to invest in.
I shouldn't be surprised that a Fateshitter instantly goes to templated replies when someone talks shit about his bad game.

The part where you get locked in Zahras doesn't make sense in SB. At that point, Edelgard's war has claimed the lives of many of Dimitri's close associates (Rodrigue, Sylvain, Ingrid). Dimitri should be going crazy with rage at Edelgard.
It makes far more sense in GW, because so far there hasn't been any important deaths (I think only Catherine? Margrave Gautier doesn't count)

Ch. 14 changes in SB because Byleth (possessed Sothis) lives to get Claude to betray you. It even counts as an alternate main quest in the Record Keeper with another set of rewards and everything, unlike AG or GW. Good opportunity to do for your 4th playthrough to see that and get the Arval paralogue for doing so.

Remember how before the game release goldencucks were getting uppity about their route having the most potential and getting excited for the almyra plotline? I laugh every time
I think Almyra really could have been utilized more to emphasize Claude's unique upbringing. Edelgard lost all of her siblings, Rhea lost her entire race, and Dimitri lost his parents, dear friends, etc. All three of them were basically kids when this happened, and at most 14. In contrast, Claude grew up with his entire family intact, but with the medieval setting of the series, this opens the door for him to have to live with the sibling betrayals and power plays of medieval life. The others mourn those who were lost, whereas Claude might be jaded and think they're naive. As such, Almyra could have introduced a lot more than just a singular brother who was a douche in two chapters.

Jesus Christ, just end his misery already. Ashe shouldn't never have been recruitable, even though he was the one most likely too because he doesn't have close history with the Blue Lions, it's obvious that joining the Empire just doesn't suit him.
His support with Dimitri had his king request he choose life over honor, and Lonato (unaware of this conversation) uses this to emotionally blackmail Ashe by stating that he (Lonato) doesn't know what he would do if he were to lose another son. It hurts because it's something that could realistically happen.

Ashe has always been one of my least favorite characters in the game because of how easily he betrays you in the original game, but Jesus Christ.
Its funny and shows everyone's true resolve. Its even more hilarious if you played Ashe's paralogue in AG. Hes all self righetous going like "Im a stalwart knight lalala!" And then hes really the only who will actually betray dimitri out of literally anyone in his entire class.

I've liked Hopes a lot more than AoC overall. Part of it is the performance, since while this game doesn't run as well as you want, it definitely runs much better than how AoC did.
Do note that if you haven't played Houses you'll be quite lost since the game kind of assumes everyone already did.

Before Hopes came out and did what it did, I thought Instead of a Golden Route they should have a route that takes place after the events of the game where CF Edelgard, AM Dmitri, and VW Claude all end up leading their teams into some reality nexus because some butthole wants to merge all Byleths or something stupid to blow up the multiverse or whatever. Instead of getting along they spend the whole route bickering and getting in petty squabbles while being super jealous that in some other world Byleth didn't choose them. And basically Hubert, Dedue, and Hilda have to team up to actually run the campaign together behind their lords backs because they're to busy arguing with each other. At the end they kill the badguy and save their respective Byleths and all go home being even more sure they were in the right on their respective routes and give each other the bird and say they hope they never see each other again.
That's basically what happens in FEH anyways. All the lords get summoned to a new world to fight a common threat and the conclusion of their dialogue to each other is basically >Yeah you may have killed me in your universe, but I killed you in mine so I'm right

Fanfic doesn't get churned out as fast as fanart, and a lot of old fujos probably haven't finished Hopes yet. Writers are more likely to want to finish the game entirely (or even replay Houses to refresh three-year-old knowledge) before they publish any writing.

The teleport is useful, but I never use the shadow dash ZR ability. Most of the time I forget it even exists. Whenever I need to go somewhere, I issue a command from the map screen and switch to another unit in the meantime.
That only really applies if you never switch characters.
I just give them an order to go somewhere and switch to someone else who's actually doing something at that moment.
Shez is a strong character but if you intend on getting S Ranks later on, dashing around stages like a moron causes you to lose out on a lot of kills. You're really better off just swapping characters or outright blowing up everything along the way with a strong combat art/spell. Not to mention that mounts already have excellent movement speed.
What skill issues? Basic combat strings take 20 years on gremary where every other casters combos come out super fast.
You only need to go as far as whatever essence your caster has (or in the case of the Essencelets then whatever has the best CC at the time). Spells will do the rest and if you want then you can just Whistle Edelgard/Dimitri/Claude and give the Essencelets one of those personals via the accessory.
My playthrough of Hopes goes like this >Dimitri is 40 levels above everyone else >Everyone else struggles to kill anything

You barely fight the church, the eagles are entirely on board and actually call out Edelgard and Hubert, etc. It's a much better route and the eagles feel way more fleshed out than in CF or SS.
Dedue literally lost his entire world and only has one miraculous friend left, and said friend surviving and becoming a successful king is, in Dedue's eyes, the one way the survivors of Duscur could ever get good lives, let alone their nation, back.
In contrast, Monica is a simp for someone who doesn't even save her in two routes, and Edelgard makes it clear to Monica that she intended for Monica to die and didn't care. Monica takes this knowledge like a doormat, saying that she'd have died with a smile if Edelgard treating her like shit and having her murdered could have helped Edelgard in any way.
Edelgard is a dumbass who refuses to say what she means in a lot of her dialogue with her friends. She tries to tell Monica that she was content to let her die but at the same time Edelgard literally jumps at the chance to save Monica and even tells Hubert that she's willing to go against everything that they've planned to get her and use that knowledgeable to deal with the Slithers.
When Monica presses Edelgard in the B Support, Edelgard literally folds and gives up because she can't maintain the facade of being a cold-hearted b***h.
On top of that, SB Edelgard even compliments her friends for being with her and apologizes for lying and hiding her intent to Shez.
Quite simply, you took the dialogue at face value without reading between the lines.
Edelgard sees a stray chance to oust the Agarthans early, but we literally know from Houses how much she actually cares in regard to Monica. Even if Hopes results in her starting to actually care, it's still very much a case of Monica being an absolute doormat for someone who literally didn't care about her.

Yeah it's definitely a grey relationship. Edelgard clearly doesn't care for Monica in the friendship/romantic sense, but from Monica's perspective she was still saved and treated right by Edelgard. It's an interesting bit of nuanced writing with how both sides have to cope with the reality of their ideals and goals, which is more than you can say for most of the writing in 3H.

People have been arguing about whether AG Dimitri is supposed to be in a better spot than AM Dimitri or not, I think it genuinely is ambiguous. Maybe that's too much credit to the writers though
Apparently if you read their dialogue it's less that they support Dimitri and more they support Faerghus, which is the same issue the Boar has. They're enabling him rather than supporting him. Everyone has become the Boar. I don't know if I buy it though
i got that ending last night and i honestly don't see what the big deal is with it, its a dimitri that hasn't gotten over his boar side, ofcourse he'd be less sympathetic to edelgard then in a route where he does.
Hubert and Ferdinand disappearing offscreen is weird and makes part 2 unsatisfying. I also just dislike the Agarthans and AG is ironically the route they're most relevant in

Her goals are to get rid of the Moles and the Lizards, but she doesn't control enough of the Empire (much of it is under mole control) to successfully defeat one without the others helps. Her plan has always been 1: Use one to kill the other, 2: Use all the power she has amassed from that conquest to turn around and kill the second.
In Houses she used the moles to kill the lizards, and then used all the new power she got from unifying Fodlan to turn around and double-cross the moles. In Hopes she sees an opportunity to do the reverse, and takes it because not having the Moles first gives her more room to maneuver, whereas the opportunity never presented itself in Houses.
Uhhh did Sothis get btfo off screen? I’m at the part where Arval tries killing Byleth and the dumb baby doesn’t wake up to help Byleth. In fact after recruiting Jeralt and co she’s gone.
She didn't get BTFO but Byleth isn't weak or desperate enough to let her take control. You'd have to not recruit Byleth in order to see Sothis again, because after Jeralt dies Byleth lets Sothis take over to get revenge.
I'm in the same boat. Despite the fact that I am a lion I do still like Edelgard's character. She's defined by her agency for better or worse. So to completely delete her personality and turn her into a powerless doll to be used by shitlords like Duke Aegir and Thales feels...wrong. Say what you will about AM but Edelgard went out on her own terms there
Yeah, AG treats her in a bad way. It's the one weakness of the route imo. Nobody warrants that treatment, especially not the compelling character who was a tragic villain or a medieval Senator Armstrong based on how you interpreted Azure Moon and Houses overall. The silver lining is that it's the Agarthans who do that to her, but it's still cringeworthy.
Don't know why people are making such a big deal of her condition in AG. Yes It's bad, but not that bad.
She will need a few years of therapy, but after that she is gonna get better(especially since Thales is dead) and even then she is never going to be held accountable for starting the war, since Dimitri is too nice to do that to her after what she went through.
She is probably going to live the rest of her life in some remote village and she is not going to be happy about it, but she'll be free and with both her mind and body working.
It must be jarring for anyone who's only played Hopes without knowledge of Houses (but why would anyone do that) to have all of Slyvain's supports constantly harp on about, "Hey remember when you were you womanizing manprostitute back at the academy? Huh, remember? When you just thought with your dick all the time? Boy you sure are different now!" Even though barely any of his old self is shown in this game beyond the proulouge. It's like he's an entirely different character altogether, just with the same name and a shittier haircut.
I don't know why anyone thinks Sylvain is so different. He's showing off the personality that he had all along, just without first doing the womanizing-to-cope bit. The Sylvain we see in Hopes is the same Sylvain when he talks seriously in supports in Houses. There wasn't anything remotely jarring about Sylvain to me in Hopes.

It's closer to his original concept to be fair. They made this big thing in 3H about him being some sneaky pragmatic schemer but he was basically just a normal dude who didn't really do anything like that

I hate that I played GW first. My most recent route of Three Houses was CF, so now I've had two playthroughs in a row without the church characters, and on top of that, I have Claude constantly spouting what is either complete lies to move the plot along or hardcore retcons from writers who love Edelgard but don't understand the tragedy of CF. I can't even tell, but every character in the route just goes along with the garbage that comes out of his mouth and it feels weird.
That aside, I think it's a great game in all other ways. Just sucks being stuck with a schizo lord who gaslights the player for 40+ hours.
I played SB first, and just started AG kino. Im not even going to touch Claude's route because it'll probably make me actively hate him and the rest of the deers if I even look at them after such a story.
Sometimes I wonder if even the writers never read the Book of Seiros volumes, which a Three Houses player can find on the first day at the monastery when trying to figure out what the heck they're supposed to teach.

I'm almost done with Chapter 10 of AG and I'm really bored. Not with the combat, but with how tedious it can be to just progress in the game. I want to know what I'm in for so:

I honestly prefer the structure of the first Warriors game over this one, but the combat seems a lot better.

Everything. Items, levels, equipment, camp unlocks, absolutely everything.
NG+ goes a lot quicker because you don't have to upgrade the facilities anymore, and all you're really doing is training. The activity points are worthless even in the first playthrough IMO since all they give is supports, once you get your first cooking effect they're redundant.

It's really apparent when you go from reclaiming the crown in one chapter, to having to spend like 4 or 5 just dealing with the uprising with the western lords.

Figuring out how to give Shiro all of the Seal abilities, or finding ways to give Mozu and Takumi Bowfaire + Tomebreaker, or making Lazlow the ultimate rallybot with all of the Rally skills, made it all a fantastic game to invest in.

The part where you get locked in Zahras doesn't make sense in SB. At that point, Edelgard's war has claimed the lives of many of Dimitri's close associates (Rodrigue, Sylvain, Ingrid). Dimitri should be going crazy with rage at Edelgard.
It makes far more sense in GW, because so far there hasn't been any important deaths (I think only Catherine? Margrave Gautier doesn't count)

It even counts as an alternate main quest in the Record Keeper with another set of rewards and everything, unlike AG or GW. I think Almyra really could have been utilized more to emphasize Claude's unique upbringing. Edelgard lost all of her siblings, Rhea lost her entire race, and Dimitri lost his parents, dear friends, etc. All three of them were basically kids when this happened, and at most 14. In contrast, Claude grew up with his entire family intact, but with the medieval setting of the series, this opens the door for him to have to live with the sibling betrayals and power plays of medieval life. The others mourn those who were lost, whereas Claude might be jaded and think they're naive. As such, Almyra could have introduced a lot more than just a singular brother who was a douche in two chapters.

I've liked Hopes a lot more than AoC overall. Part of it is the performance, since while this game doesn't run as well as you want, it definitely runs much better than how AoC did.
Do note that if you haven't played Houses you'll be quite lost since the game kind of assumes everyone already did.

Everyone likes Azure Gleam the most of Hopes' routes so if you liked Dimitri's route go for it, but note that Shez is the only fun character on account of his unique skill. There's a demo if you wanna try it out first too.

Before Hopes came out and did what it did, I thought Instead of a Golden Route they should have a route that takes place after the events of the game where CF Edelgard, AM Dmitri, and VW Claude all end up leading their teams into some reality nexus because some butthole wants to merge all Byleths or something stupid to blow up the multiverse or whatever. Instead of getting along they spend the whole route bickering and getting in petty squabbles while being super jealous that in some other world Byleth didn't choose them. And basically Hubert, Dedue, and Hilda have to team up to actually run the campaign together behind their lords backs because they're to busy arguing with each other. At the end they kill the badguy and save their respective Byleths and all go home being even more sure they were in the right on their respective routes and give each other the bird and say they hope they never see each other again.
That's basically what happens in FEH anyways. All the lords get summoned to a new world to fight a common threat and the conclusion of their dialogue to each other is basically

Also Revelations is by far the worst story of the three, followed closely by conquest, with Birthright not even having a story at all, so that actually might rank it as the worst depending on how you feel about that.

The teleport is useful, but I never use the shadow dash ZR ability. Most of the time I forget it even exists. Whenever I need to go somewhere, I issue a command from the map screen and switch to another unit in the meantime.
That only really applies if you never switch characters.
I just give them an order to go somewhere and switch to someone else who's actually doing something at that moment.
Shez is a strong character but if you intend on getting S Ranks later on, dashing around stages like a moron causes you to lose out on a lot of kills. You're really better off just swapping characters or outright blowing up everything along the way with a strong combat art/spell. Not to mention that mounts already have excellent movement speed.
You only need to go as far as whatever essence your caster has (or in the case of the Essencelets then whatever has the best CC at the time). Spells will do the rest and if you want then you can just Whistle Edelgard/Dimitri/Claude and give the Essencelets one of those personals via the accessory.
What skill issues? Basic combat strings take 20 years on gremary where every other casters combos come out super fast.

Dedue literally lost his entire world and only has one miraculous friend left, and said friend surviving and becoming a successful king is, in Dedue's eyes, the one way the survivors of Duscur could ever get good lives, let alone their nation, back.
In contrast, Monica is a simp for someone who doesn't even save her in two routes, and Edelgard makes it clear to Monica that she intended for Monica to die and didn't care. Monica takes this knowledge like a doormat, saying that she'd have died with a smile if Edelgard treating her like shit and having her murdered could have helped Edelgard in any way.
Edelgard does feel guilty about it at least, its not like she hates Monica or doesn't care about her
Edelgard is a dumbass who refuses to say what she means in a lot of her dialogue with her friends. She tries to tell Monica that she was content to let her die but at the same time Edelgard literally jumps at the chance to save Monica and even tells Hubert that she's willing to go against everything that they've planned to get her and use that knowledgeable to deal with the Slithers.
When Monica presses Edelgard in the B Support, Edelgard literally folds and gives up because she can't maintain the facade of being a cold-hearted b***h.
On top of that, SB Edelgard even compliments her friends for being with her and apologizes for lying and hiding her intent to Shez.
Quite simply, you took the dialogue at face value without reading between the lines.
Edelgard sees a stray chance to oust the Agarthans early, but we literally know from Houses how much she actually cares in regard to Monica. Even if Hopes results in her starting to actually care, it's still very much a case of Monica being an absolute doormat for someone who literally didn't care about her.

Edelgard is never distressed that actual Monica is dead. She just hates the Agarthan near her.
In Hopes, Edelgard has a benefit of Monica actually being able to ID Agarthans, thereby tying into Edelgard's plans.
The key part of that support is that Monica being alive and there in front of her forces Edelgard to confront her own actions, to ask if the harm she's potentially bringing to her friends and her country is truly worth it. It's up to the player if they agree with her answer.
Yeah it's definitely a grey relationship. Edelgard clearly doesn't care for Monica in the friendship/romantic sense, but from Monica's perspective she was still saved and treated right by Edelgard. It's an interesting bit of nuanced writing with how both sides have to cope with the reality of their ideals and goals, which is more than you can say for most of the writing in 3H.
Maybe she didn't care before the rescue, but Edelgard does end up caring about her

Her goals are to get rid of the Moles and the Lizards, but she doesn't control enough of the Empire (much of it is under mole control) to successfully defeat one without the others helps. Her plan has always been 1: Use one to kill the other, 2: Use all the power she has amassed from that conquest to turn around and kill the second.
In Houses she used the moles to kill the lizards, and then used all the new power she got from unifying Fodlan to turn around and double-cross the moles. In Hopes she sees an opportunity to do the reverse, and takes it because not having the Moles first gives her more room to maneuver, whereas the opportunity never presented itself in Houses.

Don't know why people are making such a big deal of her condition in AG. Yes It's bad, but not that bad.
She will need a few years of therapy, but after that she is gonna get better(especially since Thales is dead) and even then she is never going to be held accountable for starting the war, since Dimitri is too nice to do that to her after what she went through.

It must be jarring for anyone who's only played Hopes without knowledge of Houses (but why would anyone do that) to have all of Slyvain's supports constantly harp on about, "Hey remember when you were you womanizing manprostitute back at the academy? Huh, remember? When you just thought with your dick all the time? Boy you sure are different now!" Even though barely any of his old self is shown in this game beyond the proulouge. It's like he's an entirely different character altogether, just with the same name and a shittier haircut.
I don't know why anyone thinks Sylvain is so different. He's showing off the personality that he had all along, just without first doing the womanizing-to-cope bit. The Sylvain we see in Hopes is the same Sylvain when he talks seriously in supports in Houses. There wasn't anything remotely jarring about Sylvain to me in Hopes.

I hate that I played GW first. My most recent route of Three Houses was CF, so now I've had two playthroughs in a row without the church characters, and on top of that, I have Claude constantly spouting what is either complete lies to move the plot along or hardcore retcons from writers who love Edelgard but don't understand the tragedy of CF. I can't even tell, but every character in the route just goes along with the garbage that comes out of his mouth and it feels weird.
That aside, I think it's a great game in all other ways. Just sucks being stuck with a schizo lord who gaslights the player for 40+ hours.

I played SB first, and just started AG kino. Im not even going to touch Claude's route because it'll probably make me actively hate him and the rest of the deers if I even look at them after such a story.
Claude's route is still good for the character interactions among the cast. Just be prepared for Claude's schemes to become an addiction.

I'm almost done with Chapter 10 of AG and I'm really bored. Not with the combat, but with how tedious it can be to just progress in the game. I want to know what I'm in for so:

I honestly prefer the structure of the first Warriors game over this one, but the combat seems a lot better.

It's really apparent when you go from reclaiming the crown in one chapter, to having to spend like 4 or 5 just dealing with the uprising with the western lords.
NG+ goes a lot quicker because you don't have to upgrade the facilities anymore, and all you're really doing is training. The activity points are worthless even in the first playthrough IMO since all they give is supports, once you get your first cooking effect they're redundant.
