For those who have bought it, what is the appeal of this console? I cannot believe what Sony are getting away with.

No I'm serious. I have a friend who's desperate for me to get one because he has one. I've explained I have a PC and I'm happy with it but I humoured him and looked up the details and Im shocked with how anti-consumer every aspect of this console is. It's like my friend only wants me to get a PS5 to share the buyers remorse.

i use it for early access on some games and to avoid playing denuvo games on pc. being able to resell denuvo games to cost them a sale makes me happy.

i bought a PS5 solely for gran turismo 7
now imagine my absolute disappointment when starting the game and finding out that a game called "gran turismo" had no gran turismo mode (no career mode) but instead has a shitty cafe mode where you do 1 or 2 races for no reason and that's it
nearly everything today is so objectively bad and it's getting worse literally by the month and the best part? nobody is doing anything to change it

I got one in a contest, it's pretty much a PS4 with QOL stuff and (usually) 60fps in high-ish res. Not much reason to buy one over PC honestly, just like Series X. Maybe if you're well-off and can't figure out a good way to hook up your PC to your TV.
I got myself one because at the time my GPU had died and GPU prices were through the fricking roof. And also because I've grown tired of terrible PC ports. And they're getting worse and worse.
And I wanted to play Returnal and try the Demon's Souls remake. But after Horizon, Ragnarök and now FFXVI I'm starting to think about whether I should sell the console. The playstation exclusive games just aren't very good anymore these days.
Considering selling mine after FF7R2 and Rise of the Ronin too. Only thing holding me back is the new model revision coming out because I know the current one can be partially hacked.
Not going to lie to you OP, I bought it because it had FFVII Intergrade back in a time when the PC version hadn't been announced yet and I had already bought a controller so I figured... why not.
Aside from that, the only thing I've particularly enjoyed on it is Demon's Souls and that's a barely improved PS3 game.

I had a base PS4, PS5 plays the PS4 games with slightly better performance.
I like the controller as well. Rest mode is nice (saves your exact place in game. Still you should save often in RPGs because a system update might reset the console rarely.)

The people who buy it are normie who want to show off and at most use it to play sports games or fps/battle royale. Few actual gamers bought this console, and the ones who did either regretted buying it or are blinded by brand loyalty or nostalgia. It has almost no exclusives (and the ones they have are pozzed and/or bad), and doesn’t even have goypass to compensate with the free games. Smart and true gamers this generation have a PC (or an Xbox if he’s poor) and/or a Switch/Steam Deck, depending on his needs and taste. This is the objectively correct and unbiased opinion. This is coming from someone who loved the PS4, and owns all consoles (including PS5) + good PC.

This. The PS4 Pro is so loud like a jet taking off mach 5 that I think I already permanently damaged my ears. This shit, I can comfortably hear everything in my game. The faster loading time is great too if not for PS4 games not being fricking updated to run in 60 fps. Stupid how you can't play Bloodborne or Last Guardian in 60 when the machine is perfectly capable of handling it.

Got a ps4 pro in 2017 and a ps5 last year so i could play multiplayer games with less cheaters and less effective cheats. Cronos and Yolo are more prevalent than ever before but I'll take an army of them over 1 PC cheaters subscription hack. I still game on PC all the time but its strictly for offline play, when i touch multiplayer im on my ps5 at 120hz VRR with cross play off and a mouse/keyboard. Yeah it's 1080 checkerboarded to .... 1440p or some shit and blown up to 4k but at least i don't have to put up with the constant fricking assault of sophisticated made for streaming hacks....
As someone who has bought it, there is no appeal. I bought it to play with my friends. Getting Rift Apart was a bonus but that's irrelevant now

My EG, account with over 200 games was taken away from me by EG, and before you say it, no, I am not moronic enough to break TOS when I have that much games on my account and no, I haven't paid a single dollar for them. Ever since then I am unable to force myself to "purchase" anything digital when it comes to video games. I went with PS5 because:
1. With physical discs you actually own the game and no one can take them away from you.
2, The games are generally better optimized.
3. I wanted to play Sony's exclusives for a while now, getting a PS5 was a no brainer, and even though most of the games that I play are available on PS4, PS4 is a much weaker console that won't last very long.
4. (Optional) It's generally comfier experience when you just press the button and play the game, no BS driver updates, no BS issues with loading shaders, you just press the button and play the game, no questions asked, business as usual.
My PS4 pro was dying and I have a lot of digital games, that's literally the only reason I bought one
I bought it for PSVR2 and all I have is a glorified shit Quest 2 library
