It was like a bomb exploding in the video games market. Huge gaming companies expressed their concerns with the success of Baldur's Gate 3, telling gamers they shouldn't expect this level of quality ever again. Everybody loved this game, from the players to the corrupt journos who, for once, bit the hand that fed them to say the gaming companies should indeed try to achieve this level of quality.
You can play this game however you want, there is something for everyone in this game. Complete video game noobs can pick this game up for the first time ever and learn to play a game with the difficulty lowered to the maximum and enjoy the story, and hardcore gamers can challenge their skills. It's replayable without ever getting boring. Even not gameplay-wise, it's impressive technically and visually, it's an excellent cinematic experience. It's fun in singleplayer, it's fun in multiplayer.
We've had a lot of excellent games this year, but BG3 is not by far, but realistically, objectively, the best.

What unreachable quality are they even referring to? Amount of voice lines? It's not like your choices or who dies affect how the railroaded plot plays out.
Despite it being an unfinished mess especially towards the end BG3 is the first game in a very long time I wish I could play for the first time again

Phantom Liberty was way better but DLC cant win GOTYs
Both Hi-Fi Rush and Armored Core 6 executed their premises better than BG3.

Honestly it deserves game of the decade.
It's a great game that does things no other game comes close to, despite having a much more standard third Act and very phoned in endings, but I still think it should be the GOTY. Personally though, I think I actually enjoyed Phantom Liberty and replaying Cyberpunk 2.0 more. Cyberpunk does the ending/epilogue stuff far better than BG3 does and its atmosphere is unmatched for me. An expansion though so I guess it doesn't count, hope it gets recognition though.
