If they actually designed the Saturn to be an arcade port machine then it would've sold gangbusters. Virtua Fighter alone was a killer app in Japan, but they couldn't replicate its success because of how much of a clusterfrick the system was.

saturn had myriad other issues that make it a poor example one way or the other
controllers have "legs" but no "shoulders". the buttons are called trigger and bumper. the "face" of the controller is the front buttons and sticks/dpad.
the trigger and bumper can't be "shoulder" buttons because they would be above the "face" and therefore head.
controllers are not people so it's ok if their shoulders are above the face
Controllers have too many buttons tbh
It gives devs bad ideas on how to use them, like assigning "attack" to nine different buttons instead of just one
>saturn >6 face buttons >2 back buttons >xbox >4 face buttons >4 back buttons
???
xbox controller has more buttons cause it has both start and select buttons
>back buttons
SHOULDER buttons. That's not the back of the controller. Any buttons on the back would be paddles. Almost as bad as morons calling it the front of the controller "because it's facing forward".
actually they would be top buttons. the atomically correct position of the xbox controller is standing on it's "legs". with the face buttons facing toward you. the triggers rest upon the crown of the controller like the devil's horns
but they have legs? also inanimate objects have shoulders all thr time. Like roads. Controllers have buttons on their shoulders.
4 face buttons + shoulder buttons is superior to 6 face buttons
6 face buttons + 4 shoulder buttons + 4 paddle buttons is the end goal

>Got retrobit genesis controller >Most ergonomic fricking thing ever >They fricked up the DPad and it's way too easy to hit Up/Left Up/Right or Down/Left Down/Right
I have the Xbox version of the M30 since it has an extra set of triggers and I can confidentially say it's one of the best Sega styled d-pads I've used. Way more accurate and better feeling than the PowerA Fusion pad I was using previously. It's almost a perfect controller but my main issue is that it feels like it's made for unironic baby hands. God I wish there was a bigger version so badly.
PDP Victrix allows the sophisticated gamer the option to switch between six buttons on the right side or four. I would buy an ad if I worked for this revolutionary company.
Name genesis game that utilized all 6 buttons
>he can't
Street Fighter II
inb4 t-that doesn't count
>resorting to arcade ports already
Sad
I'm sure Sega had the same thoughts as you while padding out their libraries with cheap arcade ports thinking those would be enough to attract gamers.
it literally was
Tell that to the Saturn.

mortal kombats?
Shin obi 3.
Comix Zone
Shinobi 3
The Lost Vikings
>just play it on an analog stick
moron
Pic related.
M30 is the only good d-pad 8bitdo has ever made. And right now it's probably the best d-pad you can buy on a still in production controller.

Where are your shoulders? Hopefully on the top of your body.
controllers don't have shoulders. the trigger and bumper buttons are located on the top of the controller

Sega didn't understand how thumbs work.
I think the better question is why was sega so israeli with not making the Dreamcast backwards compatible.

buy a real one and an adapter.
I have a real one, and maybe I'll buy an adapter.
You will
Get an 8bitdo M30, it's like a mix of Genesis and Saturn controllers.
I don't trust them to have not fricked up the Dpad and I don't feel like paying "premium chink controller markup"

Is the dpad any good for modern street fight games?
Yes, fighting games is mainly what I use it for. I prefer Sega d-pads for doing motion inputs and it has one of the best.
4 face buttons + shoulder buttons is superior to 6 face buttons
?????
4 DIR PAD BUTTONS
2 ANALOG STICKS
4 GENERIC BUTTONS X,Y,TRIANGLE,SQUARE
6 TRIGGERS L1,L2, R1, R2, R3, L3
2 START SELECT
1 Big fricking pad
True but op the font on the buttons caused it to fail 🙁
The main reason for 4 face buttons over 6 is so controllers are functionally symmetrical. The four face buttons match the d-pad.
should i get this?
Were the Duke and Controller S the last officially produced controllers to have 6 face buttons?
Or GameCube controller I think. Can't remember the order of release on those two.
Gamecube controller didn't have six face buttons. The frick are you on about?
they'll add dumb buttons on the back side before giving us abc/xyz again
N64 had 6 face buttons PlayStation fricked it with 4 dumbass
