Honestly, I think when looked at a complete vaccum T3's ending is actually pretty ballsy and great.
Problem is not only you have to sit through the actual T3 movie to get to it but it also activily gives a massive "frick you" to the infinitly better film T2.
T2 ending was schmaltzy but it earned it's happy ending. T3's ending is better when you consider the core theme of the first film but it wasn't worth retconning 2.
the fable series. fable 3's protagonist is the child of the protagonist of 2. and 2 is a bit of a stretch, but it's mean to be in another era half a millenium after 1. but the implication that the hero is a descendant of the hero of the first game. which is why the blind seeress, who is theresa, sister of the hero of fable 1, helps you. molyneux may be an unredeemable hack, but fable had great world building.
