Because to them, that IS hard work. People that are wealthy subconsciously feel guilty when they see people doing actual important/hard work but make like 1/4 of what they do. So instead, they convince themselves that sending 4 emails a day and going to 1 meeting a week is backbreaking labor, you'd never be able to handle it.

In the town I went to uni there was a decrepit building on Main Street that never got renovated or any business to try and open. Later I learned the reason is all of the commercial property in that town had been owned by one rich boomer that wanted any would be renters to pay to have the place renovated. Obviously no one would take such a shit deal but because he owned everything he just decided to sit on it and refuse to budge on his demands. I still check in with some friends now and then to see if it’s still vacant

              >The system is sustained by importing an ever-increasing amount of people from impoverished countries like India, China etc
It's sustained purely by the remaining competent natives who work out of pure enthusiasm at this point.
China isn't impoverished and I don't remember the last time I heard about an influx of Chinese workers anywhere in the west.
The jeets and other muds they're importing will never be able to replace the natives in terms of performance because of inherently lower IQ.
Sure, the current system of ~~*central banking*~~ may survive a few extra decades, but at some point the west will inevitably become the 3rd world shitholes the muds came from.

Late, but my mom has always been the "work hard, save up, bootstraps, etc" type person. Then she saw what the townhomes down the road were selling for compared to 2005 when she bought. From 50k to 250k since then. Out of nowhere she brought up housing and said "wow you really are never going to be able to buy a home"

It kind of is. If you are making average or even above average wage it's still going to turn into feeling demoralized because you realize how high the cost of everything else is. It's like entry into the housing market alone is enough to make people check out, if you don't want to live in rural nowhere.

Those jobs just filter out morons like you that have no ambition. If it's a job that you honestly think you're qualified for, you apply for it anyways you moron.
When they say "x years of experience" they don't mean they're looking for someone that had a past job for x years. That makes no fricking sense for an entry level job, yet you give up before trying because you're a lazy piece of shit just looking for excuses. And you wonder why you can't find a job.

I'll give you a personal example. I spent years learning how to edit israelitetube videos on my own, just for fun. I made no money and I never went to school for it. When I applied for a shitty editor job, I put down I had 5 years experience and gave them a link to a israelitetube channel with my best edits. In my first interview, we went through my videos while I explained my process, how long it took, etc. I got my first job with no "real experience" and have grown ever since.

          >Those jobs just filter out morons like you that have no ambition
HR bots who do 99.99% of the hiring/firing do not care about your firm handshake, just that whatever you filled out fits its IFELSE
what it really filters for, are those willing to lie to get ahead, and don't care about what outcome that may yield to their bosses, or are at least willing to risk it, which unfortunately, you have to (and I did)

          >Job listing says "entry level"
          >5 years of experience and a master's degree needed

          Its so over

          literally just lie
thats how I got my first job, I made up a vaguely relevant job/company and put a friends number down as my contact and made up stories where I did (portfolio project) on the fake job
preferably have a portfolio that shows you can do the job though
pros: you get a shot with a human
cons: you might get fired instantly, but I'd rather risk getting fired than never working

Nah, but they usually are more hidden than normal job listings. I got my first job in my field with no experience simply because the manager actually saw that as a positive, and he was kind of old school in that I think he only put the job listing in the local paper.

There are jobs, but they involve actual work. The problem is everyone wants to be a programmer or IT or have a 'lazy girl job' (yes, even the fellas). If you show up at a jobsite where actual men are working, shake the foreman's hand he'll put you to work that day. But actual work, not writing emails or coding or other troony jobs that are going to be automated soon.

      Yep.

Outside retail and fast food, pretty much they require some proof you know what you are doing. So this usually comes up as unpaid internships or internships where you pay them to work. Also unpaid or you paying for it is a scam. A company tried to make me pay 20 dollars per day to drive to do paperwork for a year for no pay with it being 12 hours when I was talking to them last. Pro tip: apply directly through the company site when you can. After submitting over a thousand applications in the last three years two out of the three job offers I accepted came from doing that. I am convinced your resume won't even get seen half of the time when you use job sites through no fault of your own

Those job sites just feed your resume into an AI and pull out all of the "important" bits of a resume. The problem with this is that depending on how its formatted the AI will literally frick up your resume and send nonsense to the job

It's also a hybrid job, so I'm WFH 4 days out of the week.

electrician can be dangerous if you're not careful, and you'll get your hands dirty, but it's comfy, much better than sitting in a desk all day looking at a screen.

do electricians take electrical engineers for technicians?

idk how it looks in your country but i can just lie that i was employed overseas (and even if this is a lie it can't be proven because of contract frickery).
i'm a college dropout because of a massive depressive episode, family going through actual dark times and a suicide attempt, i had like just 1 year left to master's (bachelor's not included, it was a combined 5-year course). so by the time i desperately started applying literally everywhere with just a shitty hotel job experience and winratio of maybe 5% (somehow getting rejected even by supermarkets, convenience stores and construction companies due to my health conditions) i had zero hopes and considered giving up entirely, but then god has decided that i've suffered enough and i landed an okay-ish office job. i don't even have 1 year of experience combined, but they can't actually check that, if i'll tell them that i had a remote outsourced job for the last 3 years they'll ask me about what i was doing and acting was more important than knowledge. suddenly new HRs treat me far more kindly and i have an interview for a position in Uber next week.
worked once, perhaps will work again.

certs are a big thing, pretty much any mouthbreather can get a degree that's 99% gen eds but a cert actually forces you to learn job-relevant stuff.

when you say gamedev, do you mean working at a gamedev company or just doing your own indie stuff?

IMO if you wanna do indie, try and get some certs, grab a comfy WFH job, then do gamedev and your WFH job simultaneously. If you wanna work at a gaming company.. I would ask you to reconsider your career goals.

Indie gamedev, however, sounds really fricking hard. I'd imagine you have to be multitalented to reach even some degree of success.

Indie gamedev, however, sounds really fricking hard. I'd imagine you have to be multitalented to reach even some degree of success.

If you want to do gamedev stuff, do some smaller indie games. Trust me, you can do a lot without a lot of investment and it has some value on your resume. Don't do a platformer (legit shooting yourself in the foot). Do a 3D game if you can or something you can make very quickly. Making an indie game doesn't take long if you don't have a massive scope and realize that it's mostly making certain parts with lots of details. (most games can be simplified into concepts to make). I will warn you you will know very early on when a Steam page goes up if something is going to do well or not. Do Steam Fests and secondary sites to sell keys on are great.

Don't work at a AAA game dev company unless you really want to, all that is left there outside Indie and AA companies is hell on earth. It's all contract work, and you are forced to do overtime for double hours to keep the contract renewed.

I'm almost 30 and never had a job, I basically live at my moms basement and she pays for my shit. It's kinda insane how a healthy male, albeit one that's a university dropout but did fine in the army can end up as unemployable.

I was 25 when I got my first job, just applied to a warehouse and got hired the next day. Literally go to a temp agency if you want a job. Some of them will reject you but eventually you'll get something. While doing that, you can do whatever you want, maybe grinding for IT certs to take an entry level job 1-2 years down the line. it ain't that hard. I was a basement dweller too and got my CS degree at 33 and am working front-end now.

seems like the best option but how do you straddle the line between being really good at your job vs. doing the bare minimum? I know that when you're an exemplary employee, you just open yourself to get taken advantage of.

        >what's it like? do you actually suck up to your boss or take things on the chin out of desperation/no other options?
Depends on the job. If it's an office gig you gotta brown nose at least a little bit, you don't wanna be the unsociable weirdo in a very social setting.
Manual labor doesn't require brown nosing, but it's got psychological warfare in the form of ball busting.

I have been laid off twice since last June. In both job searches, I applied for a combined of at least 500-600 jobs. The ONLY interview's I received were at places where a relative already worked or I knew somebody from previous jobs. Job listings are literally fake. You will never get a job by applying to some company's indeed ad if you don't know anybody there. It is a complete waste of time other than fulfilling the unemployment requirements.

STEM is incredibly saturated and it's unironically thanks to Obama because he made a push for more STEM majors. That's cool and all except that

      1) not all STEM jobs are good pay (seen civie and mech engies make 50k starting)
      2) certain jobs are dime a dozen (mathies have an insane range of jobs and not in a good way meaning I've seen many do soul-sucking office crunching jobs)
      3) certain jobs and majors are unironically useless without a PhD, even shit like pseudo-healthcare shit like physical therapy require a master's minimum with experience
      4) some STEM are going the way of dinosaurs or their field is incredibly cyclical (ask all the techiehomosexuals, aerospace, petrol and chemie engies)

It's unironically better to get into a trade. Trade + union will set your ass UP and you need don't to be in some pozzed region like the homosexual Area, Los homosexuales, etc. either because those jobs are indeed everywhere.

Tradies absolutely laugh at engineers because most engineers don't ever get practical experience on the field. This is especially true if you're a project manager aka a middle management or a CAD monkey aka design engineer, where most of the time, the homie who has the experience and working the job site will know better than you. I've seen it happen with my boss's (?) boss.

Engineers-in-training start at a very low wage, but they will hire you with 0 experience. After you prove yourself for the first few years your first promotion usually comes with a hefty raise. Otherwise you jump ship because companies will pay for intermediate engineers that already have experience.

Because parents have an obligation to their kids to provide them a decent life because the kids weren’t asking to be born and so forcing them into the world and then forcing them to live a shit life on top of that is the ultimate piece of shit move. That’s why I support abortion. If the parents don’t want the kid then the kid will probably have a shit life if they are brought into this world

i'm a failed engineer starting over as a technician. just took a job in northern chicago since I couldn't get california jobs. it's fairly cheap for a big city and I found a room for $600 a month in west loop.

Chicago isn't nearly as bad as you'll hear from social media, most people who post that shit live in rural nowhere. Food's good, roads are shit, people are alright, weather is shit.

600 a month near Chicago is crazy suspicious though, something is fundamentally wrong with that spot.

I finished school in the UK at 16 and I've been a NEET for the last 15 years.

I saw all my relatives work their whole lives and still end up poor, miserable and sick. So even at 16 I knew it was a rigged game and decided I'd throw away my pride so long as I get to be a NEET. I don't regret it, I feel really bad for people who have no choice but to work. It not only cannibalises all your time, but it chips away at your soul and you can see these people just trapped in a pit of despair they'll never escape from.

      Anonymous

Work itself isn't bad. If I was rich I'd work for fun. Store clerk a month, warehouse another, maybe delivering food a few times a week. Once I get tired I just quit. That would be heaven.

  103. 3 months ago
    Anonymous

The only time I've ever been WLBalanced was a month after being fired. Every other moment I'm worried about work, about finances, degenerating from my own lazyness. I don't believe being a NEET is good long term, but, frick me, working day in day out is soul crushing.
Maybe "the dream: 2024" is buying a van, moving to a warm climate, having a 20h/week job and living on 3 years of savings and a meager income. Working towards a passion-career after college means doubling your weekly "work" hours. That drive is the only thing worth pursuing, but the perfect state to do it can be so fickle

There's also the fact that group interviews work like battle royales where people kill each other by trampling over everyone else's words and ideas, shit is beautiful. With time and experience, you start getting used to this type of interview

But they force you to work anyway, why? Because it's not enough that they live like kings, they want to see you grovelling in the dirt. The modern workforce is a form of slavery, designed to break your spirit and long for death. They seek to create a ruling class of a few hundred people, and enslave billions for no reason other than the disparity feeds their ego. They see you as cattle, and themselves as gods.

I can understand both points of view. He'd probably prefer if you just didn't talk about buying new shit, same way I don't like to hear about my friends relationships because it just makes me feel horrible. You can have a business-like relationship where you don't exchange that much info about personal lives (because it would be completely one-sided dumping on your part, and seething on his) but just enjoy each others gaming time.

same, I'm just doing basic-level cybersecurity stuff and grinding out as many free certs as I can. Actual work is piss boring, I do maybe an hour of work a day (and that's being generous) and study/read the rest. If I can't grab a contractor job then I'll at least have a padded resume that'll be able to get me somewhere comfortable. It's not exciting but hey, I'm on track to be making 100k by the end of the year.

Set a hard cap on your savings so it barely covers an emergency. Excessive liquidity means you're bleeding money with how quickly our currencies are getting devalued.

This is still early days (started in January this year) so I'd still like more than what I have now in that savings account. But I assume you're saying I should put more into the index ETF since it'll grow with inflation while flat interest gain won't?

It's good but you should try to get some certs so you can get an even easier job in a year or two

I work in a grocery store
    I make a bit under 40k a year
I live in an apartment by myself, paying 920 a month for rent.
I certainly can exist. I can continue this.
But every day I want to put a bullet in my ficking skull because my degree could get me so much more but I cannot get hired any-fricking-where, and I do not know how to improve my skills anymore as a programmer.
I want to give up on life.

    >wake up
    >want to die
    >want to do anything but what I have to do
    >want to just sleep forever
How is this acceptable for the most intelligent species on the planet
